I recently submitted an article regarding who I believe will be the most improved on each team in 2008-2009.

Check it out here.

Rondo has already come a long way. Given the low expectations I would say POB will show the most improvement for the C's.

Given Yi jilian's performance in the olympics I would think that Lopez or Williams will steal the show.

Great stuff CelticBalla32, any early frontrunners for the award out of that list? A top 3 or top 5?

I love the LaMarcus Aldridge pick, I too think he'll take another big jump next season especially with his all-round game. His post game kept improving throughout last season and I think that too takes another jump next year.

On another note, is it just me or has there been a lack of news on improving players over this offseason?

Thanks, Who. And yeah, I have John Salmons as my frontrunner right now. Here's my excerpt on him:

Quote
John Salmons - Here’s my early pick to win the 2008-2009 Most Improved Player of the Year award altogether. In December of 2007, Salmons held averages of approximately 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game through a 14-game span - and that was with Ron Artest alongside him. Artest won’t be there to disrupt the flow of the offense and take opportunities away from Salmons this season. In fact, Salmons may even become the second option on the entire team. He’s got a complete game and extreme versatility; now, he has a legitimate opportunity to prove himself.

Following Salmons, hmmm... I guess I haven't really thought about that. On the spot, I guess I'll round out a top five list with something like this (in no real order): Raymond Felton, Randy Foye, Al Thornton, and T.J. Ford (if healthy).

I'm always missing sentences in paragraphs ... me eyes head right towards the stats!

John Salmons is a very good pick. If you go past just his month of December and look at his splits on the season separating starter/bench production they're even more impressive because those numbers he had in December held up over 41 games as a starter:

Starter - 41 games played - 38mpg, 17.5ppg, 5.4rpg, 3.5apg, 50% FG%, 39% from three

Bench player - 40 games played - 24mpg, 7.4ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.6apg, 43% FG%, 21% from three

That's half a season of excellent production which is very persuasive to the possibility of him repeating that success.

There's absolutely nobody in his way now. He has a low usage point guard and the Kings only other top scorer is a low usage player. Salmons will have the ball in his hands as much as needs to. He should have a very good season. The big men won't be getting in his way either.

I was high on another Kings player for a breakout year, Spencer Hawes, until I saw him at the Vegas SL. Now I'm unsure. He didn't take those games seriously at all and he's made little progress on the offensive end which is surprising considering it's his bread and butter (has made solid progress defensively and on the boards). It'll be interesting to hear more about how he's spent his summer and how he's looking entering camp. He looked very promising during the regular season and the tail end of the year. That SL performance was out of place. Uncertain now.

Rondo didn't light it up in summer league last summer, either. He had an excellent year. It is very hard to judge anybody in summer league, positively or negatively. We all do it, but it's difficult to measure. A lot of the time, you'll see poor/sub-par summer league performers have excellent seasons (Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo) and summer league studs have rough NBA seasons months after (Marcus Banks, Kedrick Brown, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Andrea Bargnani).

Very interesting article, CB32.

Salmons is indeed a smart pick, as others have said. My most notorious disagreements would be Bargnani (like you, I'm not a fan of him and I just don't think he's good enough to improve much), Marcus Williams (ditto, I'd rather pick Azubuike), Mahinmi (I think Roger Mason will have have a good season and more chances to play than Mahinmi), Banks (though I don't know who to pick from Miami except Wade) and Sessions (I think Ridnour will start for them, so I'd probably go with Bogut, who showed signs of promise during the final part of last season when Mo wasn't running the show anymore).

I've got Randy Foye down for this one. Or Andrew Bynum.
