apperntly "got to talking" is what the Kidd's are calling it these days. (bad pun alert)

I guess Kidd doesn't think it's as big an achievement as Kobe and Lebron.

This is one of the strangest stories I have ever heard.  I understand if he doesn't care that much about the medal.  A lot of people don't need the hardware, and just take pride in the accomplishment.  But are you going to tell me that there wasn't someone who would have been better to give the medal to than the wife of a rich casino owner, who you have only known for a short period of time?  Wouldn't his kids like to have it?  Or maybe a present to your Mom or Dad?

Maybe so.
Also, Kidd is 35 years old now
and maybe not as easy to impress
these days, i.e. it's his 2nd medal.
Plus (stating the obvious) he did make
her a promise to give her the medal...

  • Hinrich sucks, Deng sucks, Bulls suck, I'm out.
His playing time was also dominated by CP3, DWilliams, and Dwade. I bet he just didn't feel like he contributed like he did the first time.

Edit: Now that I think about it, he probably just made a deal with the hotel/casino, that if he stayed 3 weeks for free with out paying a dime, he'd say that he gave the metal to the owners wife, because the stay at the hotel/casino was just soooo good. I'm anticipating the next report that she gave it back, any time now.

Fair enough, whatever floats his boat I guess. At least it shows he's a man of his word, too.

As much as most here hate Jason Kidd(myself included) and I'm sure there are still yet more joking comments to come, I don't see anything wrong with what he did. Kidd and his family was probably comp-ed the three weeks and Kidd didn't feel cool not paying something for three weeks of a stay so he made her the promise that she could have his gold if they won.

They won and he gave her the medal. It might become a show piece on the wall at the hotel somewhere or in her husband's or her's offices. If he got three weeks free I think it's a pretty cool way to pay a perceived favor.

Of course, he could have lost a fortune during his three weeks there and maybe the debt was excused in exchange for the medal. Who knows.

Isn't Kidd going through a divorce?  I'm curious what Kidd's wife's attorneys thought, since it's illegal to dispose of any asset during the pendency of a divorce.  Certainly, a gold medal has some tangible value; I'm sure his wife's attorneys have already drafted the paperwork.

Interesting point.  I wonder if the divorce in general has something to do with this.  Maybe Kidd is just trying to spite his ex or something.

an intersting side note, i wonder what a gold medal from these games appriases at.

i heard some place that there gold plated 10-14 to prevent the medal from warping, but the white jade ring is pure, and white jade is rare as heck.

anyone want to guess/ is a jewler?

Honestly, smart move by Kidd.

He just bartered free room and food for life at one of the nicest hotels in Vegas.

Not a bad move for someone retiring soon.

I don't see anything wrong with it either.  It's not like he's some 17 year old female sprinter who lives in a 1 bedroom studio with her 5 person family and works every single day of her life for a chance to win a gold.   These are multimillionare athletes.  And although the PR move is to talk about how important that victory was... the reality is that it wasn't that big of a deal.  I figure it's like giving a medal to a sports museum or something.  Maybe they'll display it somewhere at the resort.
