2 of my favorites didn't make the list yet: canibus and esoteric

honorable mentions: apathy and Chuck D

If your answer isn't Jay-Z or NaS, you're just not doing it right.

Of that list, Nas would have to be the winner really. Illmatic would have to be one of the greatest albums ever.
Otherwise, I'm a huge GZA fan. I could listen to Liquid Swords all day.

i liked 50cent first album GRODT, it's one of the best all-time, but the rest is just trash with few few exceptions.
My favorite is 2pac, nobody IMO comes close in terms of lyrics.
The rap scene is terrible right now and you can't see that coming to an end any time soon.
what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

Best rapper ever is Tupac Shakur - no question about it.

Best rapper alive is Jay-Z. Followed by Eminem, Nas and various members of the Wu-Tang Clan - Raekwon, GZA, Method Man, RZA.

Best rapper as of right now is Lupe Fiasco. He's bringing a new style and his words have meaning. Not the boring trash you hear coming out of 95% of rappers mouths these days.

Can't believe no one mentioned AZ as well.

And Lil Wayne isn't a rapper, he's a pop artist.

This conversation can't be complete without the most incredible and overlooked emcee out there... Boots Riley of the Coup.

Warning, explicit and smart as $#%# lyrics...

I was feelin your list until i saw best rap group and best rapper.  I'm a huge fan of Jedi, but i can't put them down as the BEST rap group - jus allah isn't even with them anymore and he was definitely the best in that group after vinnie paz.  They can't touch A Tribe Called Quest, Cypress Hill, or Bone Thugs (my vote).

Sorry but i'll take nas 10 times out of 10 over j-z, it's not even close in my opinion.
