in a way, that's too bad. I always thought lynch was heavily overrated and pretty much an a------.

Interesting pickup.

Lynch clearly isn't the player he once was but he can definitely still contribute out there.  I like it.  He won't be asked to do too much.  Situational, I think he'll be fine.

Hit the nail on the head Donoghus... I can see him in short yardage heavy fronts and on a 3rd and 5 nickel package as a monster back to prevent the run and pick up TE's in the box. A saftey combo of Rodney,Lynch, and Merriweather is a bone crunching trio

I see some receivers having short arms in certain situations!!

no he's 35, and he'll be the backup SS/ sub package guy.

the signing's about depth, not a starters, its a good signing with tank going down for the year.

awesome!! i had heard he was in town visiting the organization, so i didn't think we'd hear a result for a while.

I've always been a huge fan of lynchy, he is certainly a shell of his former self, but Belichik loves guys who are smart, and john lynch is certainly that.  i won't say i think he'll be rejuvinated for a year, but playing alongside a bunch of vets like bruschi, harrison, vrabel, seymour, and possibly seau would certainly get his motor running a bit.  Belichik loves to be creative and he can only do that with guys who understand what he's trying to do; even if lynch can only play sporadically, he'll be effective.

interesting, it appears that they are interested in trying out Lynch at linebacker - Belichek is being creative already.

Belichick: nothing yet on Lynch
Posted by Karen Guregian at 11:43 am

Patriot’s coach Bill Belichick opened his press conference today by providing an update of sorts, on free agent safety John Lynch, who was in for a visit.

”I know there are some reports out there about John Lynch. I can tell you that I met with John yesterday. He came in, we talked, he took a physical, but right now he’s not under contract with the Patriots,” Belichick said. ”So until he is, I wouldn’t have any further comment on that other than what I just said — that he was here. If and when that happens, then we’ll address it. But until then, I really don’t have any other comment on it.”

Lynch plays like a linebacker...Shouldn't be much of a transition.  They need speed in the secondary.

If Lynch does in fact sign do the Patriots get better....or just older?

Truthfully, I'm not so sure I know the answer to that question.
