I think I'm mostly excited about the Gay-Mayo combo.

Isn't Gay-Mayo considered Miracle Whip?  That's what I call it.

suddenly memphis wouldn't look that bad.

Marc "The Better" Gasol
JSmith
Gay
Mayo
Conley/Crittenton/Lowry

That's a really athletic team, more so than ATL last year.  They would need a shooter though.

I might be wrong (probably am), but don't the Griz have Juan Carlos Navarro? He would be the shooter they need.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Wow I really like the look of Memphis, what a fantastic core to build around if the deal goes through.  :o

I don't understand Smith taking the offer. I would've thought he could get more.

Memphis is stepping it up for best video game team that won't sniff the playoffs. Look out Clippers!

Don't
Navarro went back to Barcelona for a big money deal.

The Grizzlies have two very good shooters on the wing with Gay and Mayo.Mayo's best strength is his perimeter shooting. Conley is a solid shooter and still developing his shot. Crittenton is been working all summer on his shot with Mark Price.

Youth and athleticism is exciting on paper, but putting together a team like this where half the players are trying to make names for themselves is a recipe for disaster IMO.

almost as exciting as the gay-love combo woulde been.
Right... can't you just imagine being an NBA game photographer... just itching at the chance to see the two of them standing next to each other during a broken play... so you can sneak up behind and be the first person to take a pic of the "Gay-Love" jerseys next to each other?

For some reason I just imagine a bunch of NBA photographers sitting around a table at an early morning pancake break at Denny's...  "Alright gents... everyone put up a 20... first fella to get the Gay-Love picture wins the prize"

They'll still get a Gay-Love photo, just they only have 3-4 chances a year to get it.

If Atlanta isn't sure how much they like Smith, shouldn't they try to work out a sign and trade? They don't have to take back us much salary because Memphis is under the cap, right? So something like, Conley, Warrick and a pick for Smith would be a pretty good haul, and better for them in the long run. They're a borderline playoff team with Smith as it is...

Atlanta should keep him.  He is more proven than all the Griz prospects, and the same age.

That would make Memphis an athletic as hell team.  They would be an exciting team to watch, but not close to a good team.  However, they would be placing themselves into a big move situation that could get them on top.  Basically, finally, it seems that Memphis is doing something right.
Baby Jesus!

If ATL doesn't match that offer, then there will be a sign and trade resulting in some type of blockbuster trade with 3 teams. It happens every summer, and this should be the one. If by chance Memphis got Smith, then that would make them a playoff contender. Which as the roster looks they would be the new GS warriors/Philly 76ers. A young team that causes problems for championship contenders.

Are you able to trade a RFA immediately after matching an accepted offer sheet?

90 days waiting period is it?

Wasn't there something about the Cavs being unable to trade Varejao until this offseason since they signed him so late. He wasn't eligible for a trade prior to the trading deadline in Feb. He was a player who signed elsewhere (Charlotte) and had the offer matched.

if atl don't match they're stupid.

Yea they would be retarded. Didn't Deng get like $72 mill. Smith should be in the 65-75 range.

He already signed an offer sheet with another team. Isn't it impossible to do a sign and trade now?
