That's cool. I think either Atlanta matches it outright or does a sign and trade. Atlanta needs a young pg and Memphis has 3. ATL better not lose Smith otherwise they are back in the cellar again.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I presume it's a 5 year deal. The article doesn't say how many years. They'll likely match that, it's only $10mil above the bargain contract they were offering Smith. I doubt that's enough to make Atlanta blink.

If you don't know, I'll save you the suspense.  They won't.

suddenly memphis wouldn't look that bad.

Marc "The Better" Gasol
JSmith
Gay
Mayo
Conley/Crittenton/Lowry

That's a really athletic team, more so than ATL last year.  They would need a shooter though.

If Memphis snatches Smith we may have to revise our opinions a bit on the Gasol "gift" trade

I'd still rather have Gasol, but that Memphis lineup looks really interesting, plus Iavaroni is still around.
We're the ones we've been waiting for.

  • Hinrich sucks, Deng sucks, Bulls suck, I'm out.
I think I'm mostly excited about the Gay-Mayo combo.

If ATL doesn't match that offer, then there will be a sign and trade resulting in some type of blockbuster trade with 3 teams. It happens every summer, and this should be the one. If by chance Memphis got Smith, then that would make them a playoff contender. Which as the roster looks they would be the new GS warriors/Philly 76ers. A young team that causes problems for championship contenders.
Can't stop, Rondo!

This addition wouldn't make Memphis a playoff squad, not even close, but it would make them an exciting team to watch. Good group of young players with potential that could grow into a team in time too.

Personally I'd very much look forward to watching Darko and Smith protect the rim defensively. I like the idea of that combination. It would be nice to see Darko get some help. Then the quality perimeter scoring and fastbreak offense that Iavaroni wants to run. Josh Smith would be a lot more effective playing in Iavaroni's offense versus Woodson's in Atlanta, he's a terrific open court player.
