Cordobes reported this in the FA signing news thread, but I thought I'd start a dedicated one here, since Marcus always seems to generate discussion.

Protected first-rounder to NJ. Personally, I think Thorn did well to get a first rounder in return for him. I think Mullie overpaid, although Marcus could do well in Nellie's uptempo system.

Bad trade by the Nets. Williams is a solid point guard prospect who played well in stints last year after Kidd left. They're giving up on him too early for a protected first rounder. He's worth more than that.

Good addition for the Warriors. They had nobody else that could handle and distribute the ball. I think the Warriors free lancing offense will be a good fit for Williams too.

A first rounder is a bit steep but it's alright, workable I suppose.

I agree with you, very good job by Thorn to get a first rounder.

I don't like developing two young point guards at the same time so I'm okay with them giving up on Williams. Otherwise I'd agree that they're giving up on him too early because there is talent there. Dooling will be a solid replacement as the backup too which also helps.

But Devin Harris is their point guard, and for the next several years. Williams wouldn't beat him out for the job, and so wouldn't develop much as a backup.

I do think he has a good chance in Golden State to do something.

This is a good trade for both teams.  The Nets already have their PG of the future in Harris, and a nice veteran backup in Dooling, and after a couple mediocre years, a protected first rounder was good value for Williams.

For the Nets, they got someone who could be a nice fit in their system, and can play behind, or beside Ellis.  This is a rare win-win trade.

i like williams and always had. many said we were suppose to draft him but we instead drafted rondo. i will never forget the no look 180 over the shoulder pass he made between 2 defenders on our home court.

pretty good trade for both teams; the 1st rounder seems steep, but there are many protections on it, so the Warriors should be okay.
Celtics fan for life.

Acquire Marcus Williams from the Nets for a future conditional first round pick.

Marcus Williams should fit in nicely with the Warriors.  He's all offense.  He's too slow and has poor lateral quickness, which makes him a vunerable defender.

What a tremendous opportunity for Williams.  Surrounded by good offensive players and a great offensive coach.

He'll need to start the season in a lot better shape than he's been in the last two years....But this is an opportunity of a lifetime for him.

As always I choose to take the "how does this trade affect my life" approach, and Williams may have just saved his job on my keeper team.  I always liked him as a player, and think he'll do fine there.
Yup

I think this is a trade that works out for both teams.  New Jersey already has their up and coming point guard in Harris and the Warriors actually need a point guard anyway.  Since Baron Davis has moved on to the Clippers, the Warriors didn't really have any true point guard.  I wouldn't be surprised if he starts right away for the Warriors.

The lottery protection (1-11, 1-10) helps.  IMO, this guy always had the talent to be a lottery type player.  Still believe he can have a Mark Jackson type career.
