I know some of you guys didn't like his character, but he's a decent defender with length, hit 3's and was a hustle guy for a while in the big Warriors run against the Mavs and Jazz. Another 3 gone off the free agency board.

The Phoenix Suns apparently dipped into the talent pool in their own division this weekend.

Multiple media reports on Sunday said that free-agent forward Matt Barnes, who played for the Golden State Warriors last season, will take a physical on Monday in Phoenix before signing a one-year deal with the Suns.

"He's the perfect player for us, an athletic guy who runs the floor, finishes at the basket and can shoot the outside shot," Suns general manager Steve Kerr said, according to the East Valley Tribune. "He's also a guy who has had big games in the playoffs for Golden State and likes the big stage."

The 27-year-old Barnes has played for five teams in a five-year career. His best season came in 2006-07 when he averaged 9.8 points and 4.6 rebounds for a Warriors team that upset the top-seeded Dallas Mavericks in the first round of the playoffs.

Last season, Barnes' numbers fell off to 6.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, close to his career averages of 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds.

Barnes will make the veteran minimum -- $1.2 million -- next season.

ESPN's reporting it'll be announced soon.  Another one bites the dust...I have trust in Danny, but the field of options is really shrinking.  When will he put us out of our misery?  WHAT'S NEXT?!

Matt Barnes?

i've heard from various places about this guy,

"The Celtics already inked one former Golden State Warrior -- will they sign another? Barnes came cheap last season for the Warriors ($3 million) so his salary could be in the Celtics ball park. He can be reliable off the bench and could add a spark of energy for the Cs."   -Hoopsworld

and from what i can see in his stats hes pretty similar to posey, 6'7, does the little things, spark off the bench, i'd be excited if we signed this guy.

Good. Barnes wouldn't be much help.

I'm not worried. There's not a single FA who's worth the hurry. Posey was the only one good enough. Maybe Thomas. Just don't offer more than a single year to anyone. Someone will bite it.

Phoenix can use him as a 9th man. If they offered more than the vet minimum for 1/2 years they overpaid though.

He's not very good. But he already signed with Phoenix. More than the vet min and they are overpaying him.

I would have liked to see Barnes in green, oh well. Nothing to panic about just yet.
He's definently a nice fit for the suns.

Quite true. Barnes has been thoroughly overhyped on this board. No big loss.

I think Barnes would have been a decent fit here.  Certainly, it wouldn't have busted our budget to pay more than the vet minimum.
