Celtics- Raja Bell and Shaquille Oneal

Phoenix- Kendrick Perkins, Scalabrine, and Ray Allen

Celtics would still have a 3 point shooter with excellent D.

Phoenix- would get a tough C who is young and an excellent shooter

Um, no.

Shaq us a down grade on the defensive end at this point in his career.

Bell has only been a good player with Nash passing the ball to him.

Trade makes little sense for the Celtics.

I honestly don't see this helping either team.

I just don't get it.  How does this improve our team at all?  You risk all sorts of chemistry problems replacing someone as selfless as Ray with Shaq the egomaniac.  You also lose a good young center who has been in our system for years now.  If we had lost in the first round of the playoffs this past season then this could be an interesting trade.  But for now NO WAY!

However I do like Raja Bell and I think he would fit in nicely on our team.

will discuss trading him next yr.

I laughed out loud before reading the post - and I understand you're just thinking out loud, so I'm not gonna chastise you or anything, but this deal makes little to no sense for anyone involved - how many years does Shaq really have left?  (well if he only plays in the playoffs, maybe 10 more...) but really, this would set us back and do little good for the Suns as well... odd odd trade idea

honestly though, if I'm Ainge and the right deal comes along tomorrow, I trade Ray Allen - if it keeps us a contender longer than a 2-3 year window (which is what we have now) I listen to everything and make the right move - is Shaq the right move? no, but I like the Ray talk honestly...yes he helped us achieve G17 and he could be a big part of 18, but it may be because he landed us someone else...

Thanks for your comments.

Looking at last year's stats Shaq did average 3 more rebounds than Perkins

Also Bell shot 40.1 from the 3 compared to Allen's 39.8

I thought that Shaq and KG would defensively stop anything in the paint

and still have a knock down 3 pointer and defender in Bell

Bell is the best defender in Phoenix

This would be a great trade for Phoenix. They'd have a center who they could start along with Amare for the rest of his career. A great young front court with Inside scoring and defense. A wing player who would put up Godly numbers alongside Nash. Best of all for phoenix they get rid of Shaq.

For the Suns they upgrade at the 2spot and get rid of shaq who can't do what they brought him in to do.

For the Celtics... I don't get it.

i agree that raja is a great defender (a fact that makes this hypothetical trade even crazier for the Suns) but with that being said, calling someone the best defender in phoenix is like calling someone the straightest guy in Ptown.

all im saying is that ray could be very usefull next yr, i can actually see him playing better than he did this yr because he understands the system better.
why change something that gave us the best record in the league as well as a championship.

Maybe I should clarify, he is one of the best ball defenders like Bruce Bowen of San Antonio Spurs.

For the Celtics, I thought that they would gain by dominating the paint even more so than before without losing in 3 point shooting and defense

Shaq and Allen both have only two years left on their contract

Honestly at this point in Shaq's carrer I would rather have Perk. Get more of a defensive effort from him, and at a fraction of the price. Plus we can get more trade value for Ray down the road than for Shaq.
