Congrats PP, you deserve it.

Anyone still willing to pick Dirk over Paul in a 1998 draft do-over?

Here is who went above Paul in 1998:

1. LA Clippers  Michael Olowokandi
2. Vancouver  Mike Bibby
3. Denver  Raef LaFrentz
4. Toronto  Antawn Jamison
5. Golden State Vince Carter
6. Dallas  Robert Traylor
7. Sacramento  Jason Williams
8. Philadelphia  Larry Hughes
9. Milwaukee  Dirk Nowitzki
10. Boston  Paul Pierce

Seeing that list now, it looks like 9 teams made a huge mistake....
Celtics fan for life.

To me, he has always been on Top 10 players of the league,no need to prove it!!However, not only he proved that, but he is now MVP!!

One way or another I was always thinking that he deserved his jersey to be retired, either he had won a championship or not,he was a true Celtic to me,a real Captain!!Well, now i can take it easy,i'm happy that i know that #34 will be in the rafters when Paul retires!!

CONGRATULATIONS PAUL, THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!! NO CELTICS' AND NO BASKETBALL FAN WILL FORGET YOU, EVER...!!! YOU'RE A HUGE PART OF CELTICS' HISTORY!!!
"Life has so many hurdles. Some of them I've hopped over, some of them I've tripped over. The key is to get back up and finish the race."- Paul Pierce

And he did finish...

1. Complete bust - out of the league
2. Good player - got a bad break in Sacto
3. Injuries have severely limited him
4. Good player - but not a gold medal player obviously
5. Perpetual Bronze medal player
6. Who is this?
7. Journeyman
8. LOSAH!
9. Dallas picked Nowitzki - Proven unclutch in the big playoff moment
10. Now a proven champion!

Yup! I fell out of my chair in the 1999 draft when Pierce fell to us. I knew we were getting a good 'un.

This is like a fairytale by the Brothers
Grimm or better yet, H.C. Andersen.

You go through so much adversity, only
to come out on top.
That's what this is like for Paul.
And Paul, if you read this:
I LOVE YOU, MAN. You're my hero!

THANKS.

Hear's a guy that could have bad mouth the organization, (ala Kobe) and demanded a trade. Never once did Pierce come out and demand a trade or talk bad about his teamates and they were the second worst team.

Good to see a guy stick with the same team thru the tough times and finally come out on top. He's truely earned his ring and MVP.

Great way to look at it.  Pierce now is head and shoulders the number one out of this group.  Imagine him in a Clippers uni?  I know i sure couldn't.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I was always a true Paul Pierce fan from the day I started to love basketball. Feel like I can laugh in my friends face now. Everybody around me was always disrespecting my man, and now he established himself as a top 5 player in the league ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FLOOR!!!!!

The Truth's vindication run this season has ended in the most explosive way possible. Now he will always be remembered as the man who delivered us to the promised land, the 2008 Finals MVP. June 17, 2008 will be regarded in the history books as the day we took banner 17. I couldn't be any more proud to be a Boston Celtic fan than today.

Thanks for the wonderful season Paul. I always knew you were the man and now the whole world knows that too. Paul Pierce has just cemented his name along with the Celtic greats of all time.

No doubt, Paul Pierce will always be the Truth. Congrats Champ.

to somewhat borrow a line from the obnoxious Laker fans who flooded this board...

WHen the Lakers fans chant "MVP", it's a wish....  when the Celtics fans chant "MVP", it's a reality...

CONGRATS TO THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Missed the game, but followed most of it via gamecast at work....Congrats to Paul on MVP! This is just so awesome, and thoroughly deserving. Hopefully this team, and its Captain will finally start getting some respect after being almost completely written off.

I know in my mind Paul Pierce now joins some very illustrious Celtics. He deserves to be there! :)

Listening to Dale & Holley today & heard Dale challenge Pierce's "sacrifice" -- he said it was no sacrifice to sublimate your ego for team success because it pays off in the end. I tried to go on the air and tell them sacrifice literally means "to make sacred," but the guy who answered the phone said they weren't interested in discussing it. I guess the real gift of sacrifice is not knowing whether or not your gesture will pay off. At any rate, The Truth's sacrifice made the game sacred for me. Thanks for the leap of faith. Congratulations, Mr. Pierce.
