Poll

Why the  # switch?

To sell more jerseys.  He was sick of getting beat by people like LeBron since everyone already owned his #8.
To wear #24 so he could be "one more" than Jordan/LeBron
To try to be the player who gets two different numbers retired by one team.
To symbolize his evolution during the second half of his career from a selfish, egomaniac, whiney superstar who wears #8 to a selfish, egomaniac, whiney superstar who wears #24

Man, you guys are awesome. Love the poll, too.

Thank LarBrd33 for those options.  I was actually wondering if there was a documented reason, but making them up is much more enjoyable!
Yup

According to Kobe,
"There's 24 hours in a day and that's what I am man, I'm all day"... ::)
God bless and good night!

So prior to the switch he was just an 8 hour kinda guy?

Haha - or 8 days a week?  Who knows what's going through that guy's head at any given time.
God bless and good night!

Kobe can SAY whatever he wants, but the actual reason is jersey sales, "image makeover" after the rape thing and to oneup LeBron and Jordan.  Jordan pulled the same trick with the jersey sales.  Everyone was wearing #45 Bulls jerseys for a little while.

But really... I don't give a flying fart what Kobe CLAIMS is the real reason.  He did it because he's a selfish egomaniac attention ho.

Simmons today was talking about chants during today's game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/080617

I actually liked the one he didn't pick ("Pierce is Better")  That would be sweet. I guess if we're about to win a "Shaq's Got One More" chant would be kind of funny too.

To be honest it just reminds of when I went jogging yesterday. I don't know what Kobe's thinking maybe he said something like today I'm gona wear #8 tomorrow I'm gonna wear #24. laker fans "today I'm gonna put up my yellow flag, tomorrow i'm gonna take it down, depending on my mood.

i think these numbers show his maturity level, in his early twenties he acted like he was an 8 year old, now that he's nearing his thirties he is finally acting like he would when he just got out of college, (24)

For the same reason Amare Stoudemire did it - Kobe wanted a fresh start. A step away from all that negative things that had happened in recent times.

A new dawn, a new day.

Personally I thought #8 looked better. Don't like the #24 very much.

Because he's three times the Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.bag he was when entering the league.
