Michael Jordan: 6 championship appearances, 6 titles, 6 Finals MVP awards

Kobe: Lost 6 of last 7 Finals games, no Finals MVP awards in 4 previous appearances

I couldn't agree more with you.  Jordan was unstoppable and Kobe does not have the same intensity to win that Jordan does.

He lost with Shaq in 2004.

Gasol, Odom, and Fisher aren't slouches, either.  Teammates aren't an excuse.  MJ is just on a higher level.

This Lakers team - in the historical sense - seems a lot like the Lakers team that made it to the Final with Divac at center after Kareem retired, and lost to the Bulls.  It was a great testament to Magic Johnson that he could lead a team back to the finals without his Hall of Fame center, but they were not a championship caliber team.  There's still time for this L.A. team to turn it around and prove me wrong, but Kobe without Shaq = great player, capable of leading a team to the Finals, but not a championship team.
Yup

I really don't need stats or accolades to see that... Btw, if Kobe was nearly as good as Jordan, he would be defending Pierce during the all game.

Guys/Girls there is still a lot of series left. I know we are all excited so far, but the C's did what they needed to do. They held serve. They need to grab atleast one in La La Land. Kobe will go off at some point. Lets not get over confident.

2 down 2 more to go!

I'm not overconfident.  I just know that Michael Jordan never lost 6 of 7 Finals games.

Well, they're comparable in some ways. They're both jerks, both adulterous lechers who may or may not have destroyed Kwame Browns pysche. Oh, and they both played SG.

Understatement of the year! ;)  (There should be a law about not allowing the two names to be said in the same sentence). I honestly just shake my head in disbelief when I hear people make comparisons!

Yes, Kobe won with Shaq.

So did Robert Horry.

MJ always dominated in the finals. That is his great legacy. The excitement of his game and his skills are secondary.

I like how the C's are making people regret they started comparing Kobe to Michael before the series.......... the media might have been a few days too early on that comparison

It's not really close, IMHO. Only some media people think it is. Jordan was a LOCKDOWN defender. He might be the best defensive there has ever been. His athleticism was unreal - he seemed to be everywhere at once. Kobe is a great scorer with some decent athleticism at this point..

From an athletic standpoint Lebron is actually closer because he is able to dominate more with his athleticism.
