when did he get it and who christened him Larry Legend?

I would think it came late in his career... so what was his nickname before he was a Legend??

Peter Vecsey told us on Celtics Stuff Live that he created "Larry Legend"

I believe Peter Vescey came up with it. And I think he said as much on a celticstufflive episode last June.

^^ hey check it out its Vincent Schiavelli (what was his name?)

Sad he died recently.  "I switched to Sanka so, have a heart"

Part II of the question: what was Larry's nickname before Legend?  Is it possible Larry had no nickname the bulk of his career?

Peter Vecsey coined the nickname when he wrote an article for the New York Post titled: "Larry The Legend". Bill Fitch coined another Larry nickname: "Kodak" because he was impressed with Larry's ability to take mental pictures of every play that took place on the court. ESPN writer Bill Simmons nicknamed Larry: "Basketball Jesus" ... and he had another moniker: "The Hick From French Lick" that came out of his Indiana popularity.

*  "The Great White Hope"

*  "Indiana's New State Bird"

The Great White Hope moniker gets put on the shoulders of just about any white athlete in any organized sport  ;D  :o, so it could have been originated the moment he showed up on hardwood outside of French Lick, Indiana!

As for the second nickname I listed, it started making the rounds during Larry's Senior year at Springs Valley High.

On a personal note and a bit off topic, I used to watch this video before every basketball game I ever played in for extra emotional motivation.  I will watch this clip before each Celtics/Lakers game for good luck.  Call the psych unit because I am getting goosebumps and tearing up....

WE ARE BACK... It's time for KG, Ray and "The Truth" to go make videos!

Vescey might claim he came up with it..But Dan Patrick on ESPN made it popular.
See, this is why I'm not allowed to announce NBA games -- I'd be talking in the Cookie Monster voice right now:

Ahhhhhhhhhh ... my knee hurts ... ahhhhhhhhhhhhh ... me don't like when my knee hurts ...

Awesome video.
Bird makes me laugh and shake my head.  The guy didn't need any separation to shoot the rock and it always went in  :(
