Can Dirk score with his back to the basket, in other words is he a decent pivot man?  How good is Dirk at the low post?

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
He takes 19% of his shots from "inside" as defined by 82games.com, and shoots 56.5% from there.  In comparison to KG, he shoots about the same percentage of his shots from inside, but he's not as effective.

What makes Dirk so deadly is that he's killer from outside.

Dirk has zero post moves. Dirk's fadeaway is pretty [dang] good though.

Dirk's one of the finest mid-post players in the league. He's brilliant in that 13-16 foot area. He has a good back to the basket game from there.

Low-post not so much.

Most of his buckets in the paint come off passing or drives, not moves out of the low post.

So KG has a better inside game than Dirk?

How about Rasheed Wallace, how does his lost post game compare to Dirk's and KG's?

How about Rasheed Wallace, how does his lost post game compare to Dirk's and KG's?

The "raw" numbers:

KG: 27% of shots from inside, 72.5% shooting percentage on inside shots (53.9%, .539 eFG% overall)
Rasheed: 15% of shots from inside, 66.4% shooting percentage on inside shots (43.2%, .497 eFG% overall)
Dirk: 19% of shots from inside, 56.5% shooting percentage on inside shots (47.9%, .510 eFG% overall)

None are a true post player, but I'd rank KG as the best low-post option, by a fairly large margin.  Dirk is probably the best overall scorer, although he and KG are close.

Two other players:

Big Al: 47% of shots from inside, 64.5% shooting percentage
Gasol (with Grizzlies): 45% of shots from inside, 63.3% shooting percentage
Gasol (with Lakers): 65% of shots from inside, 66.2% shooting percentage

I don't think Dirk has any low post moves. The guy only take shots from the perimeter most of the time. Thats what makes him so effective.

Ok.  So, let's say Dallas goes on a rebuilding mode next year and wants an expiring contract.  Let's say Cuban is willing to take Ray Allen, if Rajon Rondo is included, for Dirk and another Dallas player to make the trade work.  Would you do it?

Depends on who that other player that Dallas is going to throw in is. I'll probably won't. I like Rondo way too much.

I don't like Dirk right now cause he is not taking any 3's anymore, which is a key strength for a 7 footer if that 7 footer can shoot like Dirk can.

No thanks for any trade involving Dirk.
