I don't know what's worse Hill's writing or when she appears on First Take. She is so stupid, a five-year old could make better points and she basically makes foolish Skip Bayless look like a sports computer.

"Also in the Lauro papers were charges that other referees besides Donaghy participated in gambling activity."

Nice fact checking, and/or framing of the facts to support your drivel. We all knew about that last year when Stern admonished those referees for going to casinos; it's not as though the Lauro papers were the story breaker. Or are you suggesting a larger scale gambling problem? It would be nice of you to elaborate.

Rant: over.

I got to the part about the officiating favoring the Celts and Lakers and couldn't read any more. Last nite's first quarter was almost as bad as when the Lakers were allowed to cheat against the Kings.

Second why on Earth would any fan want Detroit and the Spurs AGAIN when they could FINALLY have the Celts again and a post Shaq Kobe? That's like saying nationally that baseball fans should want the Yanks or Red Sox against the Rockies or Cardinals instead of something like Seattle/Cubs.

A Detroit homer.

Have the Celtics really benefited from a ton of calls so they can win or have they played 7 games series?

Did they give up just junk and late 1st rounders (like the Lakers for Gasol) or did they give up a 23 year old PF averaging 21 and 11 plus a high draft pick and a later draft pick (plus cap room)?

And what part of this
Quote
If you're someone who grumbles that NBA players don't play defense, you should root for Pistons-Spurs (although Boston may play the best defense of the remaining playoff teams). If you complain you're sick of seeing NBA teams that don't play hard, root for Pistons-Spurs. If you love teams that win because of their commitment to team basketball, root for Pistons-Spurs. If you're sick of seeing basketball dominated by And-1 wannabes, root for Pistons-Spurs.
describes the Celtics?

Detroit homer.

Oh, and make no comment that the Pistons got Wallace (as well as Mike James) for Atkins, Hunter (who they git back), Sura and Rebraca.

I'm sure Jemele could explain that away by telling us what huge sacrifices Chucky and Zejko were for that team  ;)

I reiterate my initial sentiment here: "Ugh."

If you're someone who loves flops, and grabs, and leg kicks under jumpshooters and more and more and more flopping then you could ever wish to see then root for the Spurs/Pistons finals!

Would anyone from outside Michigan write anything that biased and ridiculous? Basically, the story was "America should root for the Pistons........oh yeah, and the Spurs too I guess,  because thats the team I support." It honestly would have been a better column if she hadn't tried to make any of her "points" and had just come right out and professed her love for the Pistons. What a terrible writer and what an annoying person.

Why hasn't she been fired yet?

Every article she has ever written has been a piece of dirt.

she's an idiot.  It's been clear since she wrote an article that Kobe was better than Michael Jordan.

Jamele Hill reminds me of Stephen A. Smith.  Two poorly-spoken barely literate fools who know absolutely nothing about the game of basketball.  NBA or otherwise.  Their observations about basketball and sports in general are embarassing.  Both "write" and say things that can be refuted by even the most casual of fans.  Sadly, this article may have been one of Hill's better written articles.  It's completely ludicrous.  But well written and presented by her standards of nothingness.

With all of the qualified people with IQs in triple digits out there, it's sad that this is the best ESPN thinks it can put out there.

mentioning the KG trade with the Gasol trade in the same sentence is ludicrous. The Celtics actually gave up some talent and a decent pick.

You are CORRECT, but I think "some talent" understates the case: we gave up 5 players - including an almost certain future all star - AND 2 draft picks.

More's the point, her point is WRONG. I do not believe there is a conspiracy to have any one specific team, or any set of teams in the playoffs.

I believe there is/are:

1). a "star" system which unfairly advantages certain players to the detriment of the game.

2). too many free throws called during games (often) which is the worst thing possible: boring.

3). certainly an incentive for Stern to have the refs extend the SERIES out as long as possible by giving certain teams certain calls (LBJ's Cavs really did not deserve game 5).

"I anticipate the crybabies will complain that the Spurs and Pistons are boring to watch. But most real basketball and sports fans won't think that way -- just those casual NBA viewers who want it both ways."

I hate these teams because they have undermined the entertainment value and integrity of the L for the last 5-8 years.   The flopping, flailing, and faking out of officials is disgusting.   I know all teams do it, but for these teams, its their MO.  Case in point, Rip Hamilton hooking KG for 3 seconds, then flying on his back as KG raises his arm for his 2nd foul.   Could have changed the outcome if our bench didn't step up.

REAL fans see through this BS.   Chauncy Manu are great players, I love watching them shoot foul shots.

This reminds me of two things:

First:
All this bs about spygate and the insinuation that the patriots cheated in all matters of the game and are fake champs

Second:
When people say they only watch college basketball and not the nba because they don't play defense or try hard, or there is too much violence in the nba or whatever.

She says
"If there are any controversial calls that favor Boston or Los Angeles, or if there are games in which either of those teams makes a ton of trips to the foul line, the CTs (conspiracy theorists) will ask: What would prevent the NBA from urging the officials to call games a certain way to ensure a Finals involving teams from two of the biggest media markets in the country?

But if it's Pistons-Spurs, the NBA Finals will be conspiracy-free."

Brilliant analysis. She really tied it all together with a fail-proof argument
