I've noticed that all the NBA playoff teams left have a "Big Three". So I started to think on how our "Big Three" compares to the others. After thinking a while (5 minutes?) here is the order I rank them:

1. Duncan, Ginobili, Parker
2. KG, Allen, Pierce
3. Kobe, Gasol, Odom
4. Wallace, Hamilton, Billups

This does not mean the Spurs will when the championship or that the Celtics will beat the Pistons. It just means that the "Big Three" of the Spurs have the most talent in my opinion. Winning a championship or a series depends on role players, coaching, and being hot at the right time.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
I agree with you.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I've said it all season, the Spurs have the best trio in the league.

It's not just the talent but the balance they have in skill sets. A true back to the basket big man who controls the paint on both sides of the court. A lightening quick point guard who controls the tempo, runs their offense to perfection, and is a truly brilliant penetrator. Then Manu, the clutch multi-skilled two guard who can do anything with the basketball. Both Manu and Tony can create from 40 feet and get to the rim. Both are excellent passers who can set up their teammates. Both can shoot, especially Manu. Lovely balance. They can literally control the game at all times. Impressive.

Whereas we found out last night why the Pistons have the best starting 5.  I'd agree with Chief's rankings though.

Wow, I thought I might take a beating for not being a homer. But it looks like you guys are as smart as me. ;)

I agree with you, too. The Spurs trio is very well balanced.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

The vaunted Spurs' trio is getting its collective butt kicked tonight by the best player in the NBA, Kobe Bryant.  I do not see anyone stopping the Lakers this year -- thanks Chris Wallace.

There is no better 3 players than KG, PP, and RA if they are playing on all cylinders.

All 3 can hit inside, medium, and long shots.

All 3 can handle ball themselves.

All 3 have shown they can defend at a high level.

All 3 have shown to be unselfish and make teammates better.

There really is no glaring weakness if they play up to their potential.

You can't say that for any of the other trio tandems.

Our big 3 are fine. We just can't play good teams with 3 players. 2 of our starters fail to show up for many games. Rondo is still a project in the making. He desperately needs a shot. Perkins is a puzzle.

The problem is that KG and Ray seem to be big game chokers. Without Paul, the Celtics would be playing golf right now. Where as Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker seem to be big game players. That's why they are the defending champions.

Kobe, Gasol, and Odom.  Because this gives LA an almost endless variety of scoring in their offense.  The Lakers have offense from anywhere.  And they've got height.  By comparison, we've got a short team.  Our big three might be just as good individually, but ours are all jump shooters.  So what happens when the jump shots aren't falling?

I actually think KG is an excellent low post player. Just for some reason, he chooses not to play down there enough. ???
