Larry Johnson converted a four point play to give the Knicks a victory over the Pacers in Game 3 of the 98-99 ECF.

Quote
There were 11.9 seconds left when an inbounds pass by Charlie Ward was tipped by Indiana's Jalen Rose and ended up in Johnson's hands on a broken play that was meant for Allan Houston. It was Johnson's play now. He stared into the eyes of the Pacers' Antonio Davis, head-faked him and then slipped to the left on the perimeter. As Davis grabbed the waist of Johnson's shorts, the Knicks forward let go of a high-arching 3-pointer from 26 feet that was gulped down by the net like a smooth drink with 5.7 seconds remaining.

A foul was called on Davis. And an elated Johnson gathered himself from the emotion of his game-tying shot, took a series of deep breaths and hit the free throw for an unthinkable 4-point play to win Game 3 for the Knicks and reinforce the obvious: nothing is impossible for this team.

So the prediction contest continues.

We work on Josh Smith to get him in foul trouble early again. Bibby is largely ineffective shooting from outside and cannot keep up with Rondo. We use Posey or Pierce on Johnson in crunch time. Josh Childress does not start in place of Williams(out)but Pachulia does at C and Smith at SF, Horford at PF.

Celtics by 12, 106-94. Pierce, Ray and KG all score less than 20. Perk has a double-double and Cassell doesnt see more than 10 minutes of court time. Tony Allen makes a strong 15 minute appearance with defense and 12 points. 8)

  • Let's Go Celtics
C's in close contest the whole way, pull ahead in last minute and win by 1 as Joe Johnson's jumper just misses at the buzzer: heart-attack city, but they advance.

God I hope not.  The heart couldn't handle it.  I'm hoping for a double digit win.  This is the Celtics, and it is the Hawks, and more importantly, it is at the TD Banknorth Garden.

If it does end in a buzzer beater, I'd rather Paul making one than Joe missing one.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

No predictions, just a hope that the Celtics can take advantage of home court and advance to the next round.

Agreed.  Hoping when the games over the C's are in the second round, my tv is intact, and my heart is still working.

I don't know why but I woke up this morning with a really bad feeling about today. Here's my prediction and I hope to god I am wrong:

Atlanta 95
Boston  89

I felt the same way during the first quarter of the Superbowl and had people throwing stuff at me all game when I said that I had a really bad feeling about a loss. That feeling returns and I will be so happy to lose this contest, but it just doesn't feel right today.

101-100, Celtics win with a game winning 4 point play! You heard it here first.

Ray gets the benefit of a phantom call taking a three at the buzzer.  Joe Johnson gets so upset that he throws his headband and tacks on a technical (who would ever do such a thing?).  Ray calmly sinks all 4 free throws.  Pierce parties like it's 1999 (or 2002 either way).

Something like that what you had in mind?
Yup

So help me God I'd stroke out and die deader than hell. Which is exactly where I'd be after the extreme language I used in games 3-4 & 6

Is it the exact score or the spread? I called 117 to 85, (32 point dif), about as close as I've come to anything since .... well, never mind!
