TP to connerhenry43 for Pump up the volume.
I`d add Hackers also (the first one with Jolie)

And about original scores ... Lots of choices. I`m surprised nobody mentioned Last of the Mohicans and Braveheart.

do the right thing (for having Public Enemy on there three times); the rest of the CD is not bad, but PE, "fight the power" cannot be beat.

Not sure if this counts as a band movie but it is without a doubt one of my top 2:

Rock N Roll High School - Can't go wrong with the Ramones

Others:

Pulp Fiction - I watched the movie and went out and bought the CD the next day.
Forrest Gump - classic 60's and 70's
Beverly Hills Cop I and II - good new fresh 80's stuff at the time
Selena - some great latin stuff from a killed too soon legend

Scores

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest - not only one of the best movies ever but an eerie, flowing sad arrangement that solidified the film's ending. Awesome.
Amadeus
Chariots of Fire
Jurassic Park
Star Wars - when it was released in the seventies I had it on vinyl and went through two of them I played it so much

Just about any movie Elvis did. My favorites:

Jailhouse Rock
Viva Las Vegas

How could any of us forget the King?!?!

goodfellas gets my vote. brilliant soundtrack.

i also love the lord of the rings trilogy soundtrack. it varies between tranquil and loud and is a very good piece of orchestral music.

pulp fiction needs a bit of recognition, too.

A lot of mine have been said, but . . .

Judgment Night
Singles
Pulp Fiction
The Crow
Clerks
The Last Waltz

Back in the good ol' 90s soundtracks used to dominate the charts.  When was the last time a movie had a best selling soundtrack?

oh and I guess if you want to add musicals to the list - Broadway to Film - I really liked Chicago, Hairspray, Rent, Grease but I wouldn't categorize those as movie soundtracks as much..... just my opinion
