Personally, I'll take "Singles."  Pretty much defined the early '90s, which, being a gentleman currently in his early 30s, happened to be the prototypical "defining era" for my life.  But really, phenomenal album in its own right before the grunge movement got too watered down.  Old-school Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Chris Cornell, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins...  all before those guys got their moments of fame.  Pretty definitive collection, with the notable lack of Nirvana.

But, I'm an old man now, that's MY classic rock.

This would have to be Saturday Night Fever. Although the soundtrack contained a lot of what might be called disco, I still say it wins. Forest Gump soundtrack was also very good.

For scores...
-LOTR - Gotta go with LOTR trilogy. They even worked in some Elizabeth Frazier into the score -- brilliant move.
-There Will Be Blood. - Haunting. I though Johnny Greenwood did a great job. I'm looking forward to the Radiohead concert in August.

Soundtracks...
-Once -- most original musical I've ever seen and the soundtrach is chock full of power songs.
-Juno was great.
-Say Anything, if I remember correctly, was great. Was that the one with The Hardest Walk by the Jesus and Mary Chain?
-24 Hour Party People -- though I think including a biographical movie about the music industry might be cheating.
-About a Boy - I'm a fan of Badly Drawn Boy

Not sure where it falls...
The Wall - I'm not a Pink Floyd fan, but I never get tired of watching The Wall, though listing a rock opera might also be cheating.

Agree on the John Williams scores.  I'd include Ennio Moricone in there too for original scores.  He's great.

Rocky
Gladiator
Definately Goodfellas too.  Loved that soundtrack.

Here's a pretty good list, actually:

http://www.filmsite.org/100soundtracks.html

The one that's on here that completely rocks, but that I would wager not too many people have heard, is #91 - Hedwig and the Angry Inch.  I won't get into a description of the content other than to say that if you're got any hangups or insecurities, you might not appreciate the movie's content - but it's a helluva movie, and a helluva soundtrack.

Pulp Fiction's on the list, too.  That's a flick that's definately driven, in parts, by the music.  That's the hard part, having great music that's really integral to telling the story without being shoehorned in.

Interesting list. I forgot about Trainspotting.

Repo Man too! I watched that again last week. What a great movie! I highly recommend it to all who haven't seen it.

Top Gun was my favorite from growing up, and American Graffiti and Forrest Gump have great oldies soundtracks.

Favorite score is Last of the Mohicans.

Nope.  Some Kind of Wonderful.  Say Anything had Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes.

Two that I forgot --

Pump up the volume (saw it posted above - Concrete Blonde's cover of Lenard Cohen is best)

Round Midnight (won an Oscar --- amazing jazz)
I cannot begin to tell you how much I love my kids - call me a sap, it's true.

singles, pump up the volume,
can't hardly wait had a good soundtrack, maybe not the best, but all the songs were good.

i also own the "leaving las vegas" CD....all the stuff on there is mellow, somewhat depressing, and excellent.

as always, i am sure i am forgetting some good ones.
