Title: Tickets for my first trip to Boston
Post by: TheBigTicket23 on August 10, 2018, 06:17:20 PM
Finally the NBA season schedule is out! This means I can finally start planning a trip to Boston to catch my first Celtics games. I am from The Netherlands.

From 2010 until now I haven't missed a game and watched over 1000 games on league pass. Now its time to go and experience the TD garden.

My plan is probably as follows, fly in on a saterday (either Boston/NY) and fly out on the next saterday from either Boston/NY). Both cities 4 days. Boston for the sports and NY to satisfy some others on the trip (citytripping).
When in Boston i would like to catch 2 celtic games and 1 bruins game. Couple of early options:

16 jan: Toronto
17 jan: Bruins - St Louis
18 jan: Memphis
Pretty good games, good schedule, just a bit bad its just after xmas break. Probably do-able to get tickets?

7 feb: Lakers
9 feb: Clippers
9 feb: Bruins - LA Kings
10 feb: Bruins - Colorado
Probably really expensive and hard to get tickets for these games, esp Lakers game with lebron.

But probably my favourite so far, some strech in here:
27 feb: Portland
28 feb: Bruins - TBL
1 mar: Washington
2 mar: Bruins - New Jersey Devils
3 mar: Houston.
Probably the first 3 games are the easiest for a schedule we want.

Now, where do you guys suggest I can buy tickets, I can't buy them yet on the official Celtic site right? Or are there trustworthy cheaper sites like Starhub?
Some help would really be appreciated.

Can't wait to actually go, just need to secure tickets. On to banner 18!

Try to coordinate with the Knicks or Rangers schedule so you can catch a game in MSG when in NY.

As for Celtics games, if it’s against a marquee team, try to get through Ticketmaster. If it’s against a bad team, stubhub is a good choice.

Boston is a great city, and like you now that the schedule is released I will begin planning a trip up (from NYC) like I try to do each season.

Easy enough for you to get tickets since you are planning so well in advance. If you really want to catch that Lakers game, then you just need to be ready when the tickets go on sale and you should be all set.

If you do forget and are unable to get tickets through Ticketmaster, then you should be good to go with most re-sale sites. I get most of mine on Stubhub, but the vast majority of them back their tickets. Craigslist is probably not your best bet for a guarantee, but it works well for last second tickets.

Anyway, have a great time! I was just in Amsterdam and loved it. Americans are generally nice - especially if you speak English - jk  ;)

OP, I'm a STM and if you give me a few days to sort through the schedule, I probably have a few of those games available for sale at cost. My tix are $120 each but good seats (first row, section nine). There are usually a few other STMs looking to unload games they can't get to, as well.

Full disclosure: In the past, the low-demand games (midweek, not-so-exciting opponent) have almost always been available on StubHub below cost on game day. I don't know if it will be as easy this year, given the quality of the team, but if you don't care where you sit (and just about every seat at The Garden is good), there's a greater than 50-50 shot that there will be cheap seats available on the day of the game.

Thank you!

When making a trip like this we probably don't wanna take the risks of buying tickets on game day. Although I understand what you mean.

How many tickets you got for sale?
- We might need 4 tickets next to each as we are probably going to be party of 4.

When do the original tickets go for sale? At the moment it looks like its only resale.

@GreenEnvy, not really intersested in games of NY, they are our rivals! ;) Well it would be good but with a couple of ladies its probably not appreciated to go to sports 24/7.

@Jambr, Amsterdam is nice :) but i have good exp with Americans as well, been 3 times in the summer, just never in the NBA season yet, can't believe i've never been.

I've only got two tickets, so I may not be able to help you.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, I believe at 11 am Boston time. You will not have any problems getting tickets for Memphis or Portland, unless something really crazy happens this year, but I'd try and sign on as soon as the tickets go on sale, just in case.

I got great tickets front center row about 4 years ago when Boston was still sucking .  Now , im not even going to try,  .   I might go to Charlotte to catch the Celtics or Menphis , or Atlanta .  Where I can sit down at courtside.
