How does that even get up onto Cleveland.com? In any case, even if it's uncertain, it's unlikely given what you need to do to pass the protocol steps.

CLEVELAND -- Kevin Love continues to be evaluated for a possible concussion, as Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said Saturday that the All-Star forward hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's Game 7 against the Boston Celtics.
Confusion reined over Love's status when Lue initially stated during a conference call that Love was in the concussion protocol.
Upon further questioning about Love's status, Lue looked to clarify, saying Love was still being evaluated and that he didn't know specifically about the protocol process or whether Love would go into it.
Lue announced the update Saturday afternoon just before the team boarded its flight to Boston. Lue said Love will travel with the team.
The coach also did not have an update on LeBron James, who tweaked his right leg when teammate Larry Nance Jr. crashed into him in the fourth quarter, but said he would be available for Sunday's game.
Love wasn't initially in the protocol Friday after a collision with Jayson Tatum that knocked him from Friday's game in the first quarter. Teams officials said he would have to be evaluated Saturday morning.
If Love enters the concussion protocol, he would have to pass a series of tests before being cleared to play. That process cannot be sped up under league rules.
Love missed a game in the 2016 Finals due to a concussion and also was out after a concussion in March.

Not in Boston. Love was 5-17 in the three Boston games this series - 29%. That’s Marcus Smart territory.
Also, Love also wore a target on his back - our offense went at him very successfully throughout the series. Al destroyed him in the post.
I’m really glad Boston has a day to prepare. I think Brad had figured out how to beat the Cavs with Love. Cavs’ defense and offense looks different with Nance and Green. If Green is blocking shots at the rim and Nance is doing what he did last game (5-5 from the field, 3 offensive boards and seven boards overall in 21 minutes) that’s a problem. Can’t let that happen, and have to change the D - last game Cs gave up some easy dunks to Green because they weren’t ready for his cuts to the rim. Love was largely immobile, but Green moves. Can’t give up easy buckets.

I agree. I love rooting for this team. It is a true Cinderella story if they make it to the finals. You don’t see that in the NBA too often.

I was having this debate with myself earlier this morning. I'm certainly not happy Love is out, however his concussion (whether I like it or not), puts my team in a better position to get to the Finals, and that's what I'm happy about, not the concussion itself.
But since my being happy that my team has a better chance of winning Game 7 correlates with Love's injury, am I glad that he's injured?

When Love went out yesterday, his loss was mitigated by the fact that Jeff Green had 14 points and Larry Nance had 10. Contain them in Game 7 better and we got a good shot. Lebron's probably going to have to score 50+ for CLE to have a chance to win tomorrow night.

I wouldn't be surprised if multiple players had splits like these. None of these games have been really competitive. Each home game is lopsided one way, and it's more about playing keep away than anything else. Love is a +49 in Cleveland wins, and -51 in their losses. (This also coincides with Horford's effectiveness at home v. road)

Well, he missed most of Game 6 and Boston still lost. His absence in Game 7 doesn't make me particularly hopeful.
Plus, this will only add to the pro-LeBron, anti-Celtics narrative: If the Cavs lose Game 7, well, the Celts got lucky because Love wasn't there; if the Cavs win, oh my goodness LeBron is so awesome!! ::)

JR Smith stops himself, I'm not worried about him.
We have to stop Hill though, he's killed us in several of our losses. Rozier has to step up his D on him.

This. Seems a bit strange on the Cavs’ part to announce this that early, as it gives Brad a full day to prepare solely for this gameplan rather than having to second guess whether Love plays.
While this will certainly make their D better overall and take away a significant mismatch for us, this severely hurts their offense, as no one other than Lebron and Love could score in Boston.
I imagine we go back to Rozier, Brown, Tatum, Morris, and Al in the starting lineup, as taking Love out of the equation makes it that much easier for us to shut down everyone else on the Cavs.

Just contest Green's shot and he becomes small. Nance is going to get rebounds and junk...Just need to box him out. Korver off the bench worries me..but we will see

Kevin Love is a person and concussions are concerning. I think I'd rather beat him with him playing. I wish the best to him.
From a tactical point of view, this might change everything. The doubling in the post, the scrambling Cavs defense, the lack of a reliable scorer -- honestly, this game could be unlike any other game in the series.
Cavs bench players might play looser knowing they are gonna get more shots. The Cs might turn the ball over more with the Cavs scrambling defense.
Or, the game could be a blowout from the second quarter. The Cavs could struggle to get to 80. The Celtics could abuse the Cavs scrambling, double-team defense for open layups and 3s. The Cs could explode offensively.
The Cavs could go super-small with Lebron at the 5, and Green-Smith-Hill-Clarkson. Or, they could keep Nance or Thompson in the game at all times to defend Horford in the post.
With this update, both teams might have brand new looks and rotations that haven't been seen this series.

From a tactical point of view, this might change everything. The doubling in the post, the scrambling Cavs defense, the lack of a reliable scorer -- honestly, this game could be unlike any other game in the series.
Cavs bench players might play looser knowing they are gonna get more shots. The Cs might turn the ball over more with the Cavs scrambling defense.
Or, the game could be a blowout from the second quarter. The Cavs could struggle to get to 80. The Celtics could abuse the Cavs scrambling, double-team defense for open layups and 3s. The Cs could explode offensively.
The Cavs could go super-small with Lebron at the 5, and Green-Smith-Hill-Clarkson. Or, they could keep Nance or Thompson in the game at all times to defend Horford in the post.
With this update, both teams might have brand new looks and rotations that haven't been seen this series.
If Boston plays Baynes and Al...who guards them? Don't think they want Nance or TT out of the paint following Al...and there is no way Green can handle Baynes

Last time I checked, we’ve been playing without FOUR rotational players this entire series, two of which are starters and our beat of the best.
Never like to see anyone go down, but honestly, this is just war of attrition from here on out. It’s happening in the Western Conference series too. Grit and survival are underrated factors this time of year. The Celtics have more of that than the remaining 3 teams combined.
Take out the two best players off any of the other 3 teams and they all get swept in round 1.

cavs have lost by double digits each time in boston, and vice versa. The question isn't whether Lebron can score 40+...its going to be if the roleplayers who have played horrible in boston and lights out at home can have big enough games to offset loves scoring and enough to help lebron.

I hate when people get excited about injuries. Especially after the season we had.
I was having this debate with myself earlier this morning. I'm certainly not happy Love is out, however his concussion (whether I like it or not), puts my team in a better position to get to the Finals, and that's what I'm happy about, not the concussion itself.
But since my being happy that my team has a better chance of winning Game 7 correlates with Love's injury, am I glad that he's injured?

yeah, people forget that we were supposed to lose in the first round before the playoffs started. then get wrecked by the sixers...then when we won that we were supposed to lose to the cavs in 5-6 games.
to be 1 win away from the finals missing Kyrie/Hayward and rotation players like Theis. with your top 2 scoring options being a rookie and a 2nd year player is a HUGE accomplishment. I know Jeff Green isn't the 2nd coming of Durant, but he isn't a 'bad' basketball player. He has helped keep the Cavs afloat throughout the season in times where they needed him in what has to be considered one of his most efficient yet.
With his length and athleticism along with Nance's ability to grab any rebound and dunk it back in, we have every reason to be cautious tomorrow night. This is down to a one-game series and role players can often make a big difference (see KO last year vs WAS).
CLE loses a consistent go-to scorer in Kevin Love, but their defense will improve and they just need one guy other than Lebron to go off.

It’s amazing how many NBA coaches like Lue luck out by forced adjustment occasioned by injuries or foul trouble that make them play guys who they would never have played. In 2008 Rivers had the same luck when injury and foul trouble made him play Powe House and Posey more minutes than he probably would have without those issues. I venture a guess that had Love not been injured yesterday. I venture a guess had Love not been injured yesterday Lue would have played him heavy minutes and Boston would have had a better offense output and may have won the game.

They will almost certainly be better on D without Love. Their offense also looks different. Love doesn’t move around a lot, and he’s not the same as a cutter. In theory, Love is a better 3-point shooter but in the 3 Boston games he was bad. 5-17 bad. Marcus Smart bad.
I felt better with Love in the Cavs lineup - we knew what he could do and had a winning plan. I don’t know our plan for the new Cavs, but I put my faith in CBS and a very very loud Boston Gahden.

This game is the C's to lose. Without Love, they become a much poorer outside shooting team. TT and Nance have 5-foot range, and Green is a mediocre outside shooter. If they clog the lane, limit CLE to one shot and push the ball on long rebounds, it'll be a good night.
Do that + move the ball offensively for good shots, and we're easily the better team. IF we execute.

i wish you were right. but to be honest, any board that has members who honestly think cleveland is MORE of a threat after losing love, losing 3 times in boston, and having a tired lebron is pretty far gone.
i am confident that if the celtics went 82-0 in the regular season there would still be at least a few dissenters. at times this place is hard to visit.

TP. That's a great point. Those guys are legit NBA players. I think what is true, however, is that the Cavs rely a lot on guys that are not good defenders. Love and Korver are key to the Cavs offense, and both are vulnerable on defense. With Love out, the Cavs defense should be better, but they have less shooting to surround Lebron with. They may need to play Korver a lot more, or else hope that Green has another big night.

Yes, but that may not be sustainable. Green especially played well in game 6, but the Celts will be more ready for him in game 7. The Celts lost because they turned the ball over too much and did not rebound well enough. If they can do that, they should win.

yeah, Kevin love is an all-star. Kind of ridiculous for people to say Jeff Green is better.
The whole way this series has gone is that the role-players play lights out at home and struggle on the road. That is for both teams. Without love, not only does Lebron have to score 40+ but he also needs those role-players to step up on the road.
