Title: Tied 2-2, Do You Believe?
Post by: Phantom255x on May 22, 2018, 01:54:34 PM
After two spectacular double-digit wins at home in Games 1 and 2, we got blown out in Game 3 and then lost a game that the Celtics could have very well won in Game 4 (Just a lot of stupid, ugly plays and brutal mistakes from our guys last night)

Momentum is clearly on Cleveland's side, but we still have home court advantage.

We may be 37-0 lifetime when going up 2-0 in a series, but if anyone can put a dent to that record, it's Lebron. Now it's officially a new series, and a best of 3.

So are you still believing? Or do you think Lebron wills the Cavaliers to a series win, including a win (or two) at TD Garden?

MY PREDICTION: Celtics in 6! - I believe! And yes, not only am I believing we win Game 5, but we close them out on the road too. IF we win Game 5, I think we have real momentum going into Game 6 and also, there won't be 3 whole days off before Game 6, so they may be tired and that's where we could sneak a road win at the Q (finally!). We're 9-0 at TD Garden in the playoffs so far, and I'm cautiously optimistic about tomorrow (but obviously really, really nervous too). Let Lebron go off, but contain their other threats, like we did Games 1 and 2. Game 5 is HUGE (if you didn't already know that). Lose Game 5, and it's CLE in 6 sadly.

But if not, it's probably Cavs in 6 unfortunately.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if this series goes 7, but my gut feeling just tells me they can win in 6  ;D

My gut feeling also thought even with our best efforts, we'd lose Games 3 and 4 on the road. So I'm trusting it for now.

That's of course assuming we can pull off a win tomorrow night.

As I said before, I was under no delusion that the Celtics were going to sweep Cleveland. Both teams have simply won on their home courts. I was encouraged how the Celtics fought back into the game last night and gave themselves a chance to compete in the fourth quarter. I don't expect Cleveland to shoot like that again, and I also don't expect to see Boston to shoot as poorly. I believe the Celtics have a chance to close it out in game 6, but if I were a betting man, I would say Celtics in 7.

Celtics in 7.

Tatum has his first game of 30+ points all season in Game 7 with him out-dueling Lebron and leading Boston past Cleveland. Shades of Pierce vs. Lebron in Game 7, 2008, with Tatum playing like Pierce!  8)

Let's be fair.  There were two blow outs and two, somewhat comfortable wins for each team.  One could argue that the Cavs had a better chance to win game 2 than we did last night.  And I think that would be accurate.

Fair enough. I thought it wasn't that much different to be honest. CLE cut the deficit to 6 points before Boston pulled away for good in Game 2 and won by 13. We cut the deficit to 7 before CLE pulled away themselves last night. Now sure, CLE did outplay Boston the whole first half of Game 2 while Boston pretty much fell behind big early and stayed behind the rest of the game.

Just a funny example of how biased fans can be.  We had two blow out wins while they had one, and could have lost the other. :)

good thread, good attitude. i agree with celtics in six!!! and a tp for the confidence.

the celtics missed 15 dunks/layups in game 4.  all the celts need to do is calm down, play CBS game plan, make some shots early and they win it in cleveland.

Chris Forsberg

@ESPNForsberg
 Celtics missed 15 dunks/layups during Game 4.

Maybe more painful: The Cavaliers turned those misses into 15 points (4-of-8 shooting, 7 free throws), per @ESPNStatsInfo

Jaylen Brown: "Just going too fast, too excited. Just need to slow down."

Nope! I love the C's but momentum is NOT on their side, I predict a close loss in Game 5 and close Q1 in game 6.

I never thought I'd say this, but the only person the C's don't have an equalizer for is....Tristan, cheating on Khloe, Kardashian.

Probably won't happen, but remember Game 6 between the Cavaliers and Pacers where the Pacers blew out the Cavs at home and Lebron sat out pretty much the entire 4th. Would love for us to do that tomorrow night  ;D

I think it's going to 7.  Anything can happen in a Game 7.

My gut says LeBron pulls it out, because he's LeBron and he's just gonna keep making the Finals until he foolishly moves to the Western Conference, regardless of how garbage his team is.

No.

the NBA pampers its crybaby Lebron and they will make sure this will be a cinderella ride for him. The headline being Lebron breaking an all time record for the Celtics when leading a series 2-0.

yes the league will make sure that if there is one player to do it.

Its Mr. James.  Cavs in 7 Im afraid.

Celtics have been the clearly better team in my opinion....  The game 4 loss has a lot of people overreacting to a game that we played better than the Cavaliers through 90% of the game....  Except for a 7 minute stretch to end the 1st quarter, the Celtics outplayed the Cavaliers in game 4.  game 3 was an expected loss since you rarely sweep a team especially this deep in the playoffs....

The Cavaliers benefited from having 3 full days of rest and home cooking, but from this point out they play every other day.  The Celtics outplayed them after the first quarter of game 4 and I expect that to continue for the most part even when they return to Cleveland.  I honestly think the Celtics win this in 6.

Celtics in 7.

LeBron's role-players started clamming up in the second half of last night's game. They started imagining what the next game in Boston would be like. A place where Jaylen Brown holds court, Tatum ages 5 years, and Marcus Smart occasionally hits a three. A place where Terry is Scary and Horford is a top 5 player.

2 more games in Boston? I'll take my chances riding with the team that has defied expectation at every turn.

Celtics in 7.

Agree with that. The two most demoralizing things in this series:

1. Seeing George Hill shots go in

2. Seeing Kyle Korver blocking shots and looking like Kawhi Leonard out there for stretches...  :(

Celtics cannot win on the road let alone closing a series on the road.

Their last shot is tomorrow. Lose Game 5, and this series is over in 6. LeBron James has been playing out of his mind. LeBron has also been outcoaching Brad Stevens.

Regardless of whoever makes it out the East, they will get swept in the finals.

I believe that this series can go in any of the available directions. Yes, they can win. Yes, they have home court. I think this is one of the only times that I don't really care all that much if the Celtics win the conference finals. I mean I care..... but this season has already been very successful.

For me, it's almost a win-win. If they lose, we get to see Lebron work on Elgin Baylor/Jerry West's record of most championships lost.

Lebron have yet to face a complete, healthy powerhouse Celtic squad. The last time Lebron faced a complete and healthy Celtics was back in 2010 where we sent him packing to south beach.

2011 - No Rondo, no Shaq who's a major impact with the team.
2012 - Aging Big 3 with hobbled Ray Allen and losing Bradley in the regular rotation.
2015 - A rebuilding Celtic Squad who doesn't have enough pieces to make it competitive
2017 - A hobbled IT with no consistent secondary scoring option to carry his role.
2018 - No Kyrie and no Hayward, yet we have already 2 wins and have a possibility of finally dethroning him.

I believe only Celtics Nation has believed in this team this whole playoffs.

Believe there's a stat that Vegas has made the Celtics the underdog in just about every single playoff game.  Pretty weird stat because Vegas would be losing money if people were smart enough to just bet on the Celtics during home games.

I believe our Celtics win in game 7 at HOME.

Then it's on to the Finals!  We might face the Rockets or Warriors.  That series is still in doubt too.

2018 - No Kyrie and no Hayward, yet we have already 2 wins and have a possibility of finally dethroning him.

yeah ray had foot problems or something in 2012. he sucked in the playoffs in 2012. i forgot about bradley.  did he miss the atlanta, philly and miami series completely in 2012? i think so now that you mentioned it. concussion related?

In looking over the box scores from 2011-12, we lost Bradley after Game 4 of the semifinal series against the Sixers, which was yuge, lol, as we'd beaten Miami with him in the starting lineup both at home and in South Beach, with AB just doing an incredible job on Wade, and that was with the Heat having Chris Bosh, so we'll never know as to how that would have played out, but I'd like to think that that ECF would definitely have been a winnable series :-\. Sigh.

We needed a much better bench, though, and who knew, then, that Boris Diaw would turn out to be the Lebron Stopper, ahahahaha? ;D Screw David West. If we had Diaw and Bradley, not to mention a few other veteran's minimum guys, we're going all the way that year, lol ;D.

There will always be an asterisk for that year though because of the lockout.

I'm so glad it's no longer a cakewalk for the Warriors. Was getting tired of watching them sweep their way to the Finals.

Why an asterisk for playing 16 less regular season games?

I would agree an asterisk for #8 PHI beating #1 CHI because of the injury to Rose, but Celtics were up 3-2 against those Heat without Bradley (and without Green all season). Not sure what that has to do with a strike-shortened season.

We will always have Keyon Dooling’s celebratory jump and Pierce’s dagger three and “good job, good effort.”

Bradley torn his shoulder during the Sixers series.

As the Legendary Paul Pierce said at the end of that HISTORIC (and improbable) win on the road vs LA in the NBA Finals in 2008 -

"That's the way to FIGHT!!! ONE MORE!!! LET'S GO!!! ONE MORE C'S!!!!!"

I would not have bet money on the Celtics in Game 5 but they did great.  The Celtics actually did not play all that much better than they did in Cleveland (36.5% Fg% for example), to me it was more about how poorly Thompson, Smith, and Hill played.  I was expecting the Cavs to be better.  Either way, I will take it.

They did change up the defense on LeBron which worked, especially when Smart was in for Rozier.  They still switched but then played a soft sag to tilt the defense toward LeBron without fully double teaming.  As the play developed, they either went to a full double or rotated back to reset the match ups.  It clearly worked as Lebron was held in relative check and the rest of the starters really didn't hurt us.  This was part good scheme, part good execution/intensity, and part not hitting shots.  I thought Smart in particular did a great job of being in position to help/double while still getting back to his man or whoever was left after a rotation.

Can the Celtics win one on the road?

Think Boston has a better chance to win on the road than Cleveland does.

They were right there in game 4...need to finish it.

Game 7 is not a sure fire win and until I see LBJ dead and his cavs dead on the side of the road...I will be nervous.

Take a page from the 2008 team. Finish the series in 6 like they did in Detroit.

One streak is definitely going to end. Either our 10-0 at home / 36-0 all-time when having a 2-0 series lead streak, or Lebron’s 28 straight playoff series with a road win.

This is easier said then done.  Game 4 the C's won 3 of 4 quarters and still lost.  If the C's can't figure out how to score in the 1st qtr on the road this will not happen.  I don't want to see LBJ in a game 7 even in Boston.  I'd rather the C's close it out on the road versus giving LBJ a shot to put on his cape and face the C's.  I have faith in our boys but I will never discount what LBJ can do.

could not remember when he went out. man if we had him it may have put us over the top that  series. oh well. we had a shot regardless. lebron killed us in game 6 in our place. lets see if we can return the favor in cleveland for game 6.

I'm with ya! Pretend we are in the garden and the fans are chanting for us. Take it to them. game 5 was a must win for us(even if not so technically but it was in reality), now the cavs have a real must win. they will give their all. we must play better and finish better and shoot better. stick with what works. adjust midstream if needed. start fast. do not let up. withstand runs.  we need to go at lebron so he has nothing left the second half. i have a gut feeling he will try to do too much in a game like this.  make him earn his points with jays. cover others. defend rim. we must attack rim all game long.
