NBA Trade Machine says this works out all on its own - no fillers needed.
OKC gets Kawhi Leonard
San Antonio Gets Kyrie Irving
Boston Gets Steven Adams
Boston Rolls out with:
Terry Rozier
Jaylen Brown
Jason Tatum
Al Horford
Steven Adams
With These guys off the bench:
Larkin
Smart
Hayward
Ojeleye
Baynes
Morris
Tell me who is going to score on that team? They'd be younger (at Center and PG), healthier, cheaper, and way better on D. Center would be a massive upgrade on both ends. And I don't think we lose THAT much offensively with the way JB, JT, and TR are developing.
With the SA/Kawhi divorce imminent - i don't think they get a better offer than Kyrie.
I think OKC needs to shuffle the deck.
Thoughts?
(I'm bracing for rotten tomatoes to be thrown in my direction...)
-
Kyrie Evans for Steven Adams? No thanks. Poor return for Boston.
-
Celtics are not trading Kyrie for Steven Adams.
-
That really helps 2 out of 3 teams.
-
Alternatively:
Boston Gets: Rudy Gobert
San Antonio Gets: Kyrie Irving
Jazz Get: Kawhi Leonard
(putting my tomato-blocking poncho back on)

Why are we giving up Kyrie Irving in the first place...
Hayward is also not coming off the bench if he's healthy..
-
No way jazz trades gobert... especially to Boston
-
What if other assets (IE first round picks) get thrown into the deal? Do you think that this lineup:
Irving
Brown
Tatum
Horford
Baynes
is better than this one?
Rozier
Brown
Tatum
Horford
Adams/Gobert?
I think the latter is much better come playoff time...
Kyrie Evans for Steven Adams? No thanks. Poor return for Boston.

The Irving for Steven Adams trade isn't even close to the worst part of that post. Gordon Hayward coming off the bench deserves a suspension.

Kyrie for Gobert, when Kawhi is in play in the same trade? Somebody is thinkiing too hard.
-
Proven all-star at arguably the most important position for an overpaid role player. No thanks.
-
We are loaded at wing, and KL isn't exactly the healthiest guy in the world...

He's not even running yet. The idea that he'll be healthy enough to start at the start of next season is pretty dang optimistic at this point...

In what world is Rozier better than Kyrie, and why are people so insistent on trading away Kyrie, when having a surplus of guards is always useful to have?
-
Because TR is proving to be an outstanding PG,, and looking down the line there is no way Boston can pay JB, JT, GH, and KI.

Nobody said Terry is better than Kyrie, although he is a much better defender and rebounder.
I just think the overall lineup with a top-10 center + Rozier is better than a lineup with Kyrie + Baynes.

To answer your question, Boston says no.
If Celtics have to dip far into the threshold to pay someone, by the way the Hayward/JT issue doesn't happen until 2-3 years down the line, I don't see anyone getting moved other than Rozier.
-
Boston says no to Adams.
Utah says no to trading Gobert.
Kawhi for Kyrie? The value is similar.
-
I don't really see a single reason why would we make our leading scorer tradeble at all. Sensless discussion...
-
CB 2017: stars don't choose to play in Boston.
CB 2018: stars are too expensive, let's trade them for cheap starters.
-
Boston says no to Adams.
Utah says no to trading Gobert.
Kawhi for Kyrie? The value is similar.
At the same time, working on a hypothetical premise of assuming Kyrie becomes expendable for a trade because we have Terry to fill his shoes.
Isn't it counter intuitive to bring Kawhi with that reasoning for a team that has Tatum and Brown?
-
So OKC basically gets Kawhi Leonard for Steven Adams?? Celtics trade Irving for freakin' Adams?
I mean yeah, I like Adams and think he's underrated, but good grief he isn't even close to the level of either Kawhi or Kyrie.
-
I'll try to help here...
I think that a major problem that you're having (other than mis-valuing Kyrie's worth) is overvaluing Baynes' role on this team. Sure, he's playing fantastic on Embiid, but Brad wants to play Horford at center... that's his preferred lineup. The role of a "big center" is not something that we want to design our team around. It's something that you have in your back pocket in case the match up needs it. The Celtics will never give up any serious pieces for a big center, and especially not Kyrie. There has been a lot of precedence for this over the last 5 years and I don't see it changing any time soon. They basically only dig deep for value free agents on low salaries for this role.
-
Dear god no.
Trading a top 3 PG for a good, not great center. And OKC get a top 7 player in the league for said good, not great center. We easily come off worst
-
Why are we getting Steven Adams and OKC is getting Kawhi Leonard while giving up Kyrie Irving.
NO. Rather save our assets to try and get Anthony Davis. Heck even Clint Capela is a better option than Steven Adams.

Ainge laughs, hangs up the phone.

Irving for Adams is absurd to think about.
Irving for Leonard? Now that is more realistic. Depsite having an overflow of wings I am on board heavily.
I posted my lineup elsewhere, but here it is again:
Rozier 26/Smart 22/Larkin
Hayward 20/Brown 28
Leonard 34/Hayward 14/Semi
Tatum 30/Morris 18
Horford 30/Baynes 18/Theis
