Ughh when it rains it pours
Is this guy reliable?

Mazz is more of a troll than a news resource, so hopefully this is nonsense.
-
I'll wait to freak out 'til someone who is much more tied in the organization actually says something.
I would take anything Mazz says that is non-baseball related with a heavy grain of salt.

With lack of progress on his ailing left knee, Celtics All-Star Kyrie Irving plans to travel for a second opinion later this week, league sources tell Yahoo.
-
I have been optimistic all year but sometimes you can only fight so much..it seems like it's time to give in and let go of this season if this is true...it would be such a shame with the Warriors being so hurt and the Cavs vulnerable....
-
Get the knee fixed once and for all. Get Smart's hand fixed. Get Hayward's ankle fixed.
Draft a good player in the 20s and gear up for next season. Better health, better chemistry.
This season is done. Just too many injuries.
-
I knew Kyrie had injury issues. Didn't know he had screws in his knee. Can't believe Danny made this trade knowing that? Or, maybe I should believe it because of the Raef LaFrenz deal.

TP.
Timing is everything in life, and here is the perfect example.
If all these injuries occurred earlier, we wouldn't be the sacrificial lambs that we will be in the playoffs, AND we might have had a shot (albeit an outside shot) in the lottery.
Now we are screwed both ways.

Here is why I WILL freak out:
This team was literally held hostage by the IT injury, and Danny has made it clear that he brought Kyrie due to his age, control of years, and to merge with Hayward and Horford.
But then it comes out midseason that Kyrie had mentioned the need of knee surgery to Cleveland. We bought damaged goods too. Where was Ainge's logic in this?
Even if Hayward was healthy all year, we could very easily be staring at a playoffs with no Kyrie, or at best a limited one. Doesn't Danny deserve a lot of blame for that?
If Kyrie gets shut down, that trade will look a LOT worse. I am sorry.

There remains no structural damage in Irving's sore left knee, league sources tell ESPN. Belief is still rest is the best remedy for his eventual return.

Thank you WOJO!!!!

If he has a screw loose , then get it fixed .

hey hey hey
just because he thinks the world is flat, doesn't mean he's got a screw loose!

I m predicting CP3 Harden get their first ring. .......Im ok with that . Celtics are in no shape as team to contend .
I can live with what ever the year brings .
Next year will be special.
-
Meh the first source is unreliable and the second one is vague. We have to see what the final result is before giving in to despair.
-
I'd much rather take my chances with Kyrie, than IT. Kyrie is the much more a complete player and younger.
IT is, and always will be fools gold. He's a potentially nice 6th man...IF he can keep his mouth shut.
This season is all but over, let's not sabotage next season.
-
Next season is the goal, I really do not want him risking injury. We're stacked next year there is no worry. Give Tatum and Brown the reigns in the playoffs and run it back.

I'm not too confident about next season. Injuries are always a possibility for every team, but they've been a confirmed fact for Boston just about every season for nearly a decade (going back to KG's knee). 2019 could be a repeat of 2018.
Of course, they might finally avoid major injuries, which is what I and all of us want, but I'm not holding my breath.
-
Does not sound good at all.
Big picture, not going far this year (read: losing in the first round to a healthier opponent we could obviously beat if healthy) is not a big deal. The core is young apart from Horford and with luck they should be ready to do damage next year.
Nonetheless, it would be really disappointing if this season ends with Theis, Smart, and Kyrie all going out with long term injuries after the season began with Hayward lost for the year. Just a real bummer.
Still lots to feel good about this year, but it's hard to see them play so well when they had most of their guys and then have things fizzle out due to injuries.

He fractured his patella in 2015. Of course he made two complete Finals runs after that, one of them successful.
And of course, the guy we were sending their way wasn't exactly in pristine condition.

Those were different players.

I'm with you on this. Too many band aids to be effective in the playoffs. Get everyone healthy for next season. Probably get bounced in 1st or 2nd round.

Overreact much?
Not unusual that he has screws in his knee after breaking the kneecap. There's really no reason to freak out, it's common.
Sounds like the screws are causing irritation. Removing them is a relatively simple procedure.
-
It's cool. I was just thinking about how much I missed visiting tankathon.com every day.

LOL 👹

If there's any chance at all that he can make things worse by not getting the surgery, he should get it done.
-
A lot of teams must be lining up for that #7 seed right about now

yup we can't afford to have Kyrie get IT'd

The curse of IT strikes again!

This was my understanding of that issue too. I'm also dealing with it at the moment. Seems wise to agree with the resident expert, too.

How about just waiting to see what's going to happen. All of this speculation, observation, hesitations, deliberations, prognosis, diagnosis, analysis, hypothesis, hacks quotes, polls and votes, rockin boats, hoping we stay afloat, bad trades, hoping we didn't get played, decisions swayed over bad moves made. Just wait it out and enjoy the race it'll make this blog a much happier place! ;D

A relatively simple procedure that would put him out for the rest of the season though

I'd be stunned if he got this done before we were eliminated from the playoffs.
Stunned.

Yep, unfortunately. With all the injuries, I think it may be wise to prioritize long-term health this year. I wouldn't put it past them to still make a little playoff push that'd be fun to watch too.

He could make a return in the playoffs. Ruling him out at this point would mean ruling him out for the regular season. Could he miss time in the post season? Sure. The knee's weight bearing and not handling it properly could cause an assortment of issues (he's already dealt with quad issues this season), so MD's tend to air on the side of caution when giving timetables for return after knee issues.
My guess is that the 2nd opinion is to make sure it's only the screws causing issues and that removing them or delaying the procedure by continuing to play on the knee as is wouldn't compromise the integrity of the joint. 2nd opinions are standard and shouldn't cause alarm. It's due diligence.
Tar - sorry to hear you're dealing with it now. I've dealt with it from both sides. It sucks, but irritation usually means your bones are healing/have healed properly and don't need the help anymore, so stay positive.

What is it with you people, always blaming me for everything... :blank:
-
It's all Rondo's fault.... JK
-
I'm just going to accept the worst case scenario and try to push the reset button in my mind. If Kyrie can play near 100% then it's all gravy.
As long as Jaylen is healthy I will get pumped for the playoffs as usual. Even without Kyrie I believe this team will be less prone to blowout losses compared to the group from last year. A deep second round run is probably the ceiling. It will be fun to watch Rozier, Jaylen, and Tatum in somewhat of an underdog role.
The only thing that would really hurt is if the Warriors end up facing health issues severe enough to keep them out of the Finals.
-
If Irving is done for the season this is terrible new however I would rather see him take care of knee now and be ready for the next 5 years.
This seasons championship hopes went out the window when Hayward got hurt. This team has played amazing and with everyone but Hayward looked capable on making the Finals. The current health of the roster has obviously limited my expectations and I am ok with Irving getting a jump start on making sure he is healthy and ready for next season.

I'm all for doing whatever it takes to get Kyrie healthy for next year.
We weren't going to win a championship this year anyway.
Here's something to make you guys feel better....

First McHale and now Kyrie. Man, this franchise is screwed ;) ::) ;D.
