The Celtics are currently on track to have the #27 pick in the first round of the 2018 NBA draft. It occurred to me that the 27th pick has turned out to provide useful players lately. So I took a look at the history of the 27th pick in the NBA draft. Obviously, this has no bearing on who is ultimately taken at 27 this year. But the fact is that in every draft, good players slide in favor of lesser players with more perceived promise. And the end of the first round seems to be a place where some of those players are ultimately picked.
Going through the list, I see a bunch of "useful" players. And the Celtics could stand to nab a cheap, useful player to supplement a developing core over the next couple of years.
Who might be that player, picked at #27, this year?

Last 5 choices really gave tremendous value for the 27th pick to their teams.

Pretty clear that pick #27 is a much better pick now than in the past. Before the new millennium, there were very slim pickings. The rise of the international game seems the be the biggest reason off the top of my head.

Dwayne came to Australia after a varied career and made a name with the Sydney Kings. Also had a child with a girl I used to teach. A universe away from Rodman. Dennis has never touched a girl I taught to my knowledge.

1994 .Brooks Thompson 😔 RIP ... I remember him playing in Greece ... He averaged something like 30p 10as 40%3p and his coached released him because he wasn't a team player...

Speaking of #27 (where Gobert was picked), 2013 draft wasn't that bad in retrospect. Have seen Oladipo (#2), McCollum (#10), Giannis (#15) and Gobert (#27) starring in these playoffs. Adams (#12) was a beast on the boards too.

At the deadline, this was my thought. With all the injuries though, really glad pick was kept!
