Title: Free Agent team
Post by: Birdman on February 21, 2018, 08:45:59 AM
Right now here's the free agent team..not a bad looking team..probably could beat couple of teams now:

Roy Hibbert
Andrew Bogut
Brandon Bass
Josh Smith
Jared Sullinger
Mike Dunleavy
Gerald Henderson
Derrick Williams
Tony Allen
Jimmer Fredette
Jordan Crawford
Rodney Stuckey
Deron Williams
Monta Ellis
Derrick Rose
Ty Lawson
Brandon Jennings

That would be an absolutely terrible team.

I don't know where this hypotetical team could be located, but I definetely know the name: Chuckers :)

I don't even know if you took the best seasons from all those players how good they would be.  Certainly not a real contender, but probably a playoff team (though maybe not as I'm not sure those are the best fitting pieces).

I don’t know if that team would beat any of today’s teams.  Everybody on there is pretty much cooked, although I’m surprised many haven’t gotten an NBA offer.

Bogut, Smith and Tony would be fun to watch defensively.

Go small with:

Bogut
Smith
T. Allen
Deron
Rose

Terrible spacing, though. I guess you go with Dunleavy and move Tony to the bench.

That is what I mean about the fit.  That team, even with everyone's best seasons (and Rose and Deron had some truly great seasons), is not a very well constructed team.  Maybe back in 2000 that team would be pretty good, but today I wouldn't be so sure they even make the playoffs.

I'm with this guy.

That team could not score and they would be super super slow.

You'd have better luck putting together a team comprised of players currently overseas or in the G-League.

They are certainly all trash now but no way you can say that MVP Rose, Utah Deron, 20ppg scorer Monta, D-and-grit TA.... heck even Gerald Henderson was a good player back in the days. Bogus when healthy was really good and Josh Smith was very athletic (although low bball IQ).

I actually think their best versions would be fun to watch.

Deron/Lawson/Jennings
Rose/Ellis
Allen/Henderson/Dunleavy
Smith/Bass/Sullinger
Bogut/Hibbert

Surely there are chemistry issues but talent would certainly be there.

Technically Jordan, Bird, and Shaq are FAs. Should we include their best seasons as well?

The team that you listed above is awful. They are terrible. There's a reason no NBA teams have signed them. Don't let their reputation fool you. That team wouldn't win 15 games in a full season. They would be the worst team in the NBA.

I honestly don't know if that team in their primes would make the playoffs this year.  They have virtually no shooting, Allen is the only competent wing defender, and Bogut and Hibbert, even in their prime, were slow and plodding.  Rose and Deron are a terrible starting backcourt (I mean how are they guarding anyone) from a fit perspective.  Smith is a black hole.  It would just be a terribly constructed team.

It would be, although in their prime Deron could defend, and Dunleavy had some really underrated years as a two way player.  I’m not worried at all about Prime Bogut.

But the chemistry is disastrous. Smith, Rose, Deron, Monta, Lawson and Jennings have all caused problems, and Sully and Hibbert have had their desire questioned. Would this be the most uncoachable team of all-time?

If we’re talking best seasons from these players, then that is certainly a playoff team. There are fit issues, but you guys are also constructing poor starting lineups. The ideal lineup would be, with everyone in their prime, -

Rose / Lawson / Jennings
D Will / Henderson / Ellis
Dunleavy / Allen / Crawford
J Smoove / Sully / Williams
Hibbert / Bogut / Bass

Rose and Williams would destroy backcourts together, Dunleavy is the perfect 3 and D guy, and Roy Hibbert was a defensive monster back when the Pacers were really good. He was a huge reason why they took the Heat to 7 games, and was one of the best rim protectors in the league. And prime Josh Smith was a beast too. He was a good defender and super athletic. A prime Rose/Smith pick and roll would be very hard to stop.

Plus that would easily be the deepest team in league. You’ve got all star level players coming off the bench. We would take David Fizdale as coach too, as he is a great players coach, and we would be the Seattle Supersonics, so we’d have an excited new fan base.
