Slightly odd circumstances considering his current girlfriend isn't the mother of his child.

You mean lead his team to the NBA Finals and make several All-NBA and All-Defensive teams?

I'd LOVE that.

That would be a sure-fire HOFer.

Is Dwight Howard really though?

Wow just checked basketball reference and he literally has .9319 chance which is pretty high. I guess the 8 years he dominated the NBA still rings true to this day. I would love for Tatum to be a DPOY and All Team NBA lol. Be like Dwight! (Minus the 1794747286472 kids he's paying for on child support and will most likely go broke once his NBA career is over.)

Dwight also has several baby mamas and had to pay one in particular a lot of money to keep her mouth shut about the relationship that they had.

There was also a weird story in which Dwight allegedly flew two 16 year old girls out to his hotel either in Houston or Orlando. (Not sure what the nature of this was about, but it was strange nonetheless).

Most importantly, Dwight has no ring, only made it to the Finals because the C's lost KG, and hasn't been an integral part of any team he's been on since then. I hope he doesn't turn out like Dwight at all lol.

I don't get into folk's personal lives - that is between them and God.

On the court Dwight Howard has achieved several awards. I'd hope that a ring finds it way to him one day.

i guess, but i think his life would a more easier and his ability to be a father much improved if he had become a father a bit later in life.

but, babies come with a no-return policy, so congrats and good luck to him.

Well said.  19 is usually still a kid in my book.  I have a 22 yo and 27 yo who are independent and successful but I don't see either as quite ready for parenthood yet.   It was hard for me at 32 when I had my first.

I hope his ex-girlfriend is unusually mature and that he is able to be a great parent despite his young age.

...and I hope he uses birth control in the future if this baby was unintended.

His ex girlfriend was Toriah Lachell who posted a few pictures a few months ago of her baby. At the time most people assumed it was someone else's.

His current girlfriend is a Duke volleyball player and in her recent IG (instagram) her pictures of the belly stay the same. Obviously the mother isn't 100% confirmed but this is who I think could be the mother.

There is also a picture of Lachell holding the same baby (?) At the Celtics parquet floor.

Could or could not be. I still think Toriah is the baby mother. Her time lines match up with the birth of the baby, plus Tatum  and them were together. I don't know who Lily or Asa is, so I can't make a judge on that.

Congrats to JT. Hopefully he's gettin the youngin ready for the 2036 draft class to follow in his pops footsteps.

I was always afraid of a being a teen father, but when you're in the NBA, and your mom lives in the same building as you, it probably isn't that scary. Your financial situation is taken care of and your support system is right there with you.

Good stuff.

Cool, maybe they'll both be able to play together on the same team.

I am a huge Tatum fan and the baby will obviously be well-supported, but this isn't exactly the ideal situation for the average person. No matter the circumstance, good for him!

I guess he really is the 'vet rook'.

I'm convinced there's no "ideal situation" for having a baby. I honestly just believe a supportive family system is all that's necessary.

My mom had me at 15. She was a single mom with but was never on welfare or section 8, or child support or anything like that. We just had a tight family unit that supported my mom and I until my mom got her life together. Now she's making a 6 figure salary, owns her own house, car, side business etc.

If Tatum is close enough to his mom where he initially wanted her to live in the same apartment as him, I'd say he's got the support he needs already.

Somewhat agree and somewhat disagree. Tatum seems very mature for his age, plus he has the money and support system at his side. I think he'll be fine. Plus it seems like he has good relationship with his ex, which is always a good sign.

OH MY !!!!  What a beautiful baby !! And isn't it wonderful that the mother, whoever she is, lives nearby ??? OH MY !! OH MY !! OH MY !!

So many PC comments - I am actually fairly liberal when it comes to social issues, but the reality is that the casual way people have children these days and the breakdown of a structured family are huge contributors to our great country's current state of decay.

I am with you in general.  I'm on the liberal side too, but am deeply in favor of people being old enough to parent before they actually parent.   Structured family has multiple potential constructs (imo) but the idea that the family be led by stable, mature adults is pretty important to provide the best likelihood of healthy child development.  That said, economic stress is also a risk factor that Tatum's family shouldn't have to endure.  There are many exceptions, but generally speaking 19 is too young to be a parent in today's world. It's an opinion, but there is a great deal of data that support better outcomes when parents are older and family systems are stable.  Though these are certainly not the only important variables.  I am a big fan of birth control.

Re: "PC" comments, I sure wish that term was never coined.  I think people's opinions should be argued on their merit and not lumped and marginalized as a "type" of comment.  No offense -- I get what you mean, I just really see the term as a way to disparage and dismiss.  The rest of your post makes the argument though.

FYI the teen pregnancy rate is about half what it was 25 years ago. God bless cell phones and video games.

Congrats to Tatum, hope he does right by his child regardless of his situation.

Likewise, the divorce rate is also half of what it was 25 years ago (although, in fairness, so is the marriage rate). But it's worth pointing out that the proportion of families with children that are married has stayed largely the same over the past 15 or so years (~68% in 2001, ~70% in 2016, per US Census). The number of single parents has stayed approximately the same over this period (~11 million). So news of the American family decline seems largely overstated.

I actually don't care for the term either.  However, what bothers me about such comments is people's obsession with saying whatever they can to never offend anyone, no matter what their actions may be.

Not suggesting Tatum is some bad guy. I don't know the details of this situation. Let's hope he is as mature off the court as he is on the court.

Maybe the lack of sleep took a while to catch up with him lol

Congrats to him, but I'd have really preferred he put this part of his life off until a later time. He's 19 and still has a ton of adjusting to do to the NBA. Having a kid to take care of is just going to be a distraction. Thankfully his mom lives in the same apartment building as him lol.

Response is, it's not uncommon at all.  Happened to the GOAT of QBs.  This stuff happens all the time.
Don't judge dude.  You are not in either of these guy's shoes.  You don't know their situations.

lol, Tom Brady was like 30 when he had his first child. If you can't see the difference between TB and a 19 year old rookie/kid adjusting to a completely different life, then I am not sure what else too say.

Anyway, hoping Tatum is getting into a routine and is feeling refreshed enough to go deep into June - we are going to need him!

He痴 got money, he痴 got a supportive mom nearby... could be a worse situation. I知 glad he didn稚 tie himself down to one lady as 19-year-old with NBA superstar potential..... ::)

While reading trade rumors, saw online that Lonzo's gf is expecting too

It happens and when it does you hope for the best. But... birth control is accessible to these guys and there really shouldn't be as many unexpected or unplanned pregnancies as there are among these athletes.  I am making the asumption that boyfriend/girlfriends at 19 years old do not set out to "try" to get pregnant.  I realize that rich young men are at risk for girls using pregnancy to keep their man, and that there is a misguided (IMO) cultural motivator among young men that messages that fathering at a young age is "manly".  But I think for the most part youthful impulsivity (which we were all vulnerable to) is the core issue and that can be addressed so that fewer unwed teenagers have children.  I do think that LOTS of these children end up being cared for by a young, single mother.  Money or not, it is often not the ideal circumstances.
