This debate is starting to heat up again.
Who would you take now? And why?
-
Was a huge Curry fan but he's turning into a punk. Plus, how can I go against a fellow C's player. Used to hate on Garnett as well but things change. Give me Kyrie though I acknowledge Steph is a slightly better player and shooter right now but put Kyrie on that team and they don't skip a beat.
-
Who is better, the guy who leads in points, rebounds, assists, FG%, 3PT%, TS% all while having lower usage;
... or the other guy?
-
I can't believe Curry won't win this unanimously. Curry is a significantly better player than Irving. It isn't close at all.
-
Curry is clearly better, but I don't think there is a huge difference. Who is the better ball handler? Who is the better finisher at the rim? Who out played who in the pg matchup in the last two finals? I think the difference is smaller than the perception.
-
Irving. Curry can't defend. I don't care for box score stats. Box scored don't mention defense ratings

Disagree
Go rewatch the finals...all three
Curry with turnovers, missed 3s, basically buckling under pressure at times.....
Kyrie on the other hand...

Kyrie had 0 TOs and shot 100% on 3s? ???

This is about where I am on the debate; however, I am very happy to have Irving on this team and will consider it a bonus if he improves on what he has been.

There’s not much we’re going to learn about Kyrie from his one game in the 2015 Finals, is there?
-
I'll take the 2 time MVP. Kyrie is great, but he hasn't reached Curry's level yet.
And that's okay. Curry is an amazing player (and the best shooter ever), not being as good as him right now isn't a slight toward Kyrie at all. Hopefully Kyrie gets there someday, but right now it's a no-brainer

Yeah, pretty much this.
It also should be mentioned that Kyrie is a little over 4 years younger than Curry, and he still has yet to hit his ceiling.
So while today I'd take Curry, I'd take Kyrie if I was looking both for the present and long-term.

Curry is a top-3 player, a two-time MVP, and the best player on a championship team. He’s got two titles and has won 73 games.
Kyrie is a top-15 player who has been a key player on a title team.
Both are great, but one is greater.

Naw, maybe top 5. Lebron, Durant, Kawhi, and AD are for sure ahead of him in my book, perhaps even others.

I can understand the argument, but he’s a two-time MVP on a dynasty team who is basically unguardable.
Playing next to Durant has made some people forget the greatness of Curry.

Yeah I don't think most people have Curry top 3.

I just think the two-way versatility of all those other guys pushes them a bit above Curry's offensive dominance.

The first (2015) NBA finals Kyrie played one game while Curry was his teams' leading scorer by 10 points a game. The second series was Curry's worst because he was playing hurt and he still scored 22 a game with a better TS% than Irving. In the last series Curry hung an almost triple double on the Cavs (27/8/9 on a .698 TS%) and clearly outplayed Irving the entire series. So much for that postulation - Irving was grossly outplayed in 2017, barely edged a hurt Curry in 2016 and wasn't even in the picture in 2015. The myth of Irving's dominance in the NBA finals is just that - a myth.
Of course, we're talking this year anyway. Let's see...do we take the two time NBA MVP who is averaging 25/5/7 with an eFG of .580 or the guy averaging 20/3/5 with an eFG of .498? Since I remain unconvinced that Irving is the reason for the Cs defensive prowess this year this seems like a pretty easy decision.
-
My answer for best PG is Westbrook because he averages a Triple Double. So I would like the poll better if it had an other selection option.

RW and Harden turn over the ball too much and have been MIA at the biggest stage one too many times
Regular season + playoffs....Curry and Irving are ahead
-
Curry is easily the best PG in the league and I agree with Roy, he is a top 3 player in the league. Kyrie just isn't at Curry's level yet. Maybe in a year or two he could be but presently, he isn't.

Except he’s averaging a single double. Last year was a fluke because that team wasn’t set up to win games, it was set up to be the Westbrook show. Curry is much better than Westbrook in my opinion.
-
I don't think either of them can instantly turn teams into contenders alone. You need a great coaching and supporting cast for them to excel.

I agree
these days , its much harder to build around PGs unlike in the past
-
Huh... how does Kyrie have this many votes?
Clearly Curry is a legitimate Top-2 PG in the league.

Im picking Kyrie.
Can Curry even create his own shot?

Sorry but the fact, that only him and the Big O have done is still impressive.
-
Curry didn’t impress me . Didn’t shoot well, bad defense

It is, but clearly other players could do it if they weren't on contenders. I mean, I think you could reasonably argue at least 3 other active players could average a triple double and it might be more, if their team situation was different.
-
Curry didn’t impress me . Didn’t shoot well, bad defense
Kyrie wasn’t particularly impressive, either. The two were a combined 7/30. That’s why rational people don’t judge players based upon one game.
-
Didn't triboy start a thread last year claiming he would take Damon Lillard over Curry because Lillard was a much better player? Now its Irving. Me thinks triboy doesn't like Curry.

Cmon Roy..the mask was clearly affecting his game
What was Currys excuse last night?

Eh, I think Kyrie shot 2-for-7 with the mask off, going 2-for-3 on layups and 0-for-4 on jumpers. It’s hard to blame the mask.
The Dubs bothered Kyrie and the Celts bothered Steph. Both will be better next time.
-
I don't think there's any doubt that Curry is the better player right now. With that being said, he's older, on a historically great team, and has not proven he can play in any system other than one with 3 other hall of famers. The gap isn't too large for me, and as someone said earlier, if it's for a long term point guard I am probably taking Kyrie.
Kyrie is younger, has shown his ability to play successfully in two different systems, and is stronger than Curry in a few different areas.
-
I guess I don't see Curry's passing and D as good as Kyrie's.

Just came off a thigh contusion.
Before that, during the entire month of October, he averaged 28 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, shooting 48%, 39% from 3PT.
I'm buying in into Kyrie, but lets be serious here.
-
Why is this poll so close?
Curry is better than Irving. It is not even debatable.
