Sources: Bulls forwards Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic were involved in serious altercation in practice today, leaving Mirotic hospitalized and out indefinitely. Story coming.

Seems like the Bulls are really going to try hard for lottery odds this year.
EDIT: Updated with a link to a further story.

I get a locker room fight, but how do you put your teammate in the hospital? What good could possibly come out of that?
But even small scuffles don't even happen that often. I think Smart vs Brown had sort of a verbal fight once last December, and the only fist fight recently that I can remember On the celtics was von wafer and delonte west

Yeah, and Delonte was mentally ill at the time. This has got to be quite an interesting story out of Chicago.

exactly. Where were the trainers coaches and teammates? Gotta separate people before they start swinging. I’d love to hear how it all happened

Can you keep a guy on your roster who puts his teammates in the hospital?
Seriously.

He can be their enforcer! ;D

Sounds to me like Portis will be on the open market soon.
If it's any consolation to the guy, Portis could probably make it as an MMA fighter.

Good thing Zeller isn't around here anymore to concuss Horford.

Small fights happen all the time. They usually don't make it to the media because they're usually nothing - just two people who care about what they do having a disagreement.
This isn't a small fight. If you injure your brother with intent, you have no business being on the team.
-
Cheap shot after a pushing scuffle. Doesn't speak very highly of Portis' character.
-
Sign me up for Portis! I think him breaking Mirotic's face is low, but otherwise I like the player.
Maybe a Morris/Portis combo could add a little nasty that this team might need in the playoffs.
-
I wonder if the lack of veteran presence was a factor in this fight blowing up. Chicago is in full on tank mode

Half the guys on this site would probably still trade Rozier for him LOL.
-
I mean, it's a concern. But, fights happen. Cheap shots happen.
Look up KG / Rick Rickert.

The FORCE is strong in this Portisan. Eye see...strength in him.

Thank god we finally have an enforcer in Baynes to counter this...

Like any organization, teams tolerate BS if the player is good enough. If Portis has a breakout year, all will be forgotten.
-
Lol are people still calling for Danny’s head over taking Rozier instead of this guy??

I think that's kind of awesome. Just maybe don't envision your teammates as the ones who slapped your momma.
-
Mirotic has a broken jaw! OMG!
-
Section 16 (ii) allows the team to terminate a contract if a physical attack is committed to any official or employee of the team.
-
Did they lock horns? ;)

Apparently 4 to 6 weeks recovery for Mirotic. Interesting to see what penalty Portis draws. If he's playing after a few games suspension while Mirotic has a month of recovery, that wouldn't seem fair. Unless Mirotic said or did something way out of line, hard to see how Portis stays with the Bulls.

Clippers will be calling soon!

Am I wrong to laugh at the Bulls over this?

It's hard to make a judgement without knowing what happened. I don't think Portis was intentionally trying to put Mirotic on the bench for 4-6 weeks. Merely, I think he was just trying to punch him in the face. I've been punched in the face a couple times, and I have never broken any facial bones.
I would like to know what was being said before casting judgement. Remember Zidane? Everyone thought he was a bad dude at the moment, and then rumors trickled out that the Italian player was making racist and/or crude remarks about a female family member. Sometimes men need to take matters into their own hands.
Just sucks for Mirotic that he got hurt.

8 game suspension for Portis. Seems a bit light to me....
