Title: Where's your excitement meter?
Post by: droopdog7 on October 12, 2017, 03:37:00 PM
Not sure how any Celtic fan isn't extremely excited about this team this year.  I know people are thinking that the preseason doesn't mean anything but that's simply not true.  This team is much more versatile, longer, more potent offensively, and potential to even be better defensively.

The addition of Tatum (and maturation of Brown) is exciting to watch.  It's not their time to shine yet, but as supporting players they'll definitely sneak in and have their moments.  At the top, the Celts have true star power.  Hayward is taking his time to fit but can average 20 ppg in his sleep.  Al is al, which is great as a third fiddle.  He'll move the ball, make open shots, and provide an interior presence on D.

As for Kyrie, there isn't a more talented offensive player in the entire league.  His skill are other-worldly, and scoring is effortless.  Ultimate stardom will depend on his playmaking but he definitely has it in him.

I see THIS team in the finals THIS year.  Lebron may be one of the greatest of all time, but I don't think even he can carry that team to the final this year.

TP to you!

I agree with you and can say we WILL be better defensively!!

From 1 to 10? I'd say a 6 probably. I think it should be a fun year but I'm really looking forward to seeing what they try to do next to put us over the top in the east and closer to the Warriors. I have more faith in this team then last years. I liked last years team but really thought we had gotten everything out of them that we could and in the Playoffs it showed.

I'm excited but can totally see this team not jelling immediately so the meter is at 7 but will be at 9 come playoffs, barring injuries. Regardless of GSW stranglehold on the NBA, it's still an exciting time as this team is almost brand new but with a bright future.
I think next year is when this team will really take off, barring injuries. We may even add a top 5 pick and a ring-chasing veteran big and/or shooter. And if LBJ bolts.....all the better.

"New 3" era level.  Essentially, pick any year between about '07-'08 & '11-12 and I'm there this season.

Just like the start of every Celtics season I'm 15/10 hyped. How the season goes changes that.

I'm excited to watch the Celts play games that count.  Should be really interesting to see how this team comes together over the course of the regular season.

I'm not expecting a drastically different end result than last season -- though I'm hoping the Celts are more competitive in whatever ends up being their final playoff series -- but the fact that the team has so many new pieces to integrate adds a layer of interest that wouldn't be there if they'd brought the same group back.

On the other hand, I've got to become emotionally invested in this new group, which will take time to get to where I already was with the Isaiah Thomas-led Celts.

Because I am so unfamiliar with the players on this team, I am probably about a 5 out of 10. Give me a couple of weeks of getting used to our new men in green and I will be at ten, like always.

Yeh.  Brown and Irving are freakishly athletic.  I went to a Cleveland game at the Garden last year (the regular season game that they won).  Our seats were in the very last row, but seeing Irving from high above was a real treat to watch.  You can really appreciate the knifing he does from above.  We're in for a treat with him.

IT was pretty fun too, but hey...onward and upward.

I am super jacked and my body is ready! Hopefully we can take cavs out. they are still loaded. sure hope D wade and D rose are washed up. will be enough dealing with lebaby and loverboy. but we are light years better this year as well. however we still have to do way better to even make it a series.

That is the big question. we were destroyed in 5 games. we need to take these clowns to 7 and we need homecourt. I mean i am not expecting to beat them in less than 7. we still have to get back over the lebron hump.  Sure we have beaten him before a few times in the playoffs and we took him to 7 in 2012. we need to get over the hump and get past him.

To be honest - VERY high - only tempered by me missing IT and Jae.

But watching last night's game - only for about a quarter or so before I fell asleep - was AWESOME.

I know it was "just" a pre-season game but this team is so dynamic offensively, now.

I'm starting to believe that Kyrie "may" just be the Real Deal. He still has HUGE shoes to fill IMO but I think his feet is getting bigger.

I was also impressed by Jaylen Brown's defense - especially against Kemba. He was able to keep him in front of him and got a good block on him as well.

He also - just a few min later - got ANOTHER block with the LEFT hand on a CHA player.

The Haymaker was impressive as well. He is my Glue Guy. He seemed to fill needs where ever he saw them. May be the most well-rounded player we have and that's no offense to Big Al or Kyrie. Love his motor.

Aron Baynes didn't even play - which he will be a key piece for us with his large frame and presence.

Jayson will be HUGE once he gets his sea legs under him. He's so fluid. Once the game slows down he'll make an impact for us this year.

Coach Brad Stevens - after what - 4 years? in the league FINALLY has his horses. This season and the near future will be fun.

I'd ideally like to see both of these guys in the starting lineup at some point, fairly soonish.  I think Tatum gets in there pretty quickly if he shows much of anything.

Would not be surprised once Brad employs such a lineup.

We're going to exploit many teams this season.

If we can get by CLE we're going to match up better than many of us believe vs GSW.

3/10.  Excited for the NBA season to tip off again.  But the last few seasons have been very predictable at the top.  While OKC or HOU could make things a little more interesting out West, I'm sure it'll be another GSW championship over CLE.

As for the Celtics, one of their youngest players (and most tenured) commented that the team doesn't have an identity yet.  I think that's pretty clear.  It'll take patience for those fans who appreciate the storyline to become more excited, imo.

Mine is All the Way Up.

The Celtics aren't winning a championship but finally this team has some swag, style, and finesse mixed in with the grit and toughness old school fans like to see. The whole PP-KG-RA era was other people calling the Celtics old and tired, but now they've got a couple of young stars and potentially a couple of younger stars in the making.

Even if Irving leaves after 2 years, it's all good. I'm sure it'll be fun while it lasts.

Most excited about the team since the start of 2007-08 season.
There is a good chance Stevens could get this team to be one of the top 3 offenses in the league , should be exciting to see the pace that the team plays at this season.

So about an 8 out of 10 on my excitement meter.

Long, athletic, young team. Much better than short, finesse, overachieving team. The defense will be much improved, that is what excites me the most. Watch CBS work his magic now with legit talent.

The excitement for the unknown is higher than the known, in my eyes.

I like a lot about this team. Kyrie. Hayward. Tatum. Very excited to see these guys play.

I'm psyched that our young, high draft picks will get minutes (Smart, Brown, Tatum). That doesn't happen if we didn't unload Bradley and Crowder.

It is the time that making predictions and conjecture make an exit and they bring the pudding in. The proof, reality or what will be is here (in a few days at least). This is exciting for the optimist and sceptic. If you love the game or just want to be proven right, now is the time.

Since this is what we wait for each year and this year offers the Celtic fan so much, I have to be 10/10. Since Stevens arrived the groups of players he has controlled have 'over achieved'. Ainge has made additions which mostly improved the team (IT, Crawford etc). Both these guys know what they are doing.

I have confidence that Ainge has made great moves and Stevens will be able to get as much as anyone out of this team. People don't make as much of the fact that Stevens too is yet to reach his prime as an NBA coach. He is smart, focussed, determined and most importantly has the new toys to get things done with.

Not many pundits expect the Celtics to win the East and fewer still expect even this team to be able to compete with GSW. I am confident that Stevens can lift this team to 'over achieve'. I have the Celtics in the NBA finals and closer to GSW than many would expect. I also have a feeling that this team could get an exceptional addition during the season when it becomes clearer where teams are with their playoff chances.

Because he might have the best handle of all time.

That's watching greatness

Also in an era of super teams and stars teaming up Kyrie said he wanted to go his own path.

I get that he's weird and obxnoxious and went to duke, but cmon, he's one of the most exciting players in the entire league.

I will never understand why people do this where they pretend they don't understand why people feel a certain way and then after asking for someone to explain they say "and don't give me [incredibly valid reason]" or "give me something other than [massive reason]"

I couldn't be more excited to watch Kyrie play for the Celtics.

I'm also super excited to see Hayward and Tatum make their debuts.

I'm similarly hyped about the development of Smart and a Brown.  Around the league every team got new uniforms, many teams loaded up adding stars. How will mommy do with Jimmy Butler? Houston with Chris Paul? OKC with Melo and PG? So many exciiing players in new places.

My excitement level would be a 15/10 if the Warriors didn't exist... but they do. Their status as overwhelming favorites makes it tough to really get to excitied because not a single team outside GS is anything more than a long shot.

If GSW were not so far ahead of the pack, I'd be a 10. This team has a good chance of making it to the Finals this season. Cavs in uncertain shape. Injury concerns over IT. Ill-fitting supporting cast. They look ripe to be knocked off and Boston has the players to do it.
