Title: FIBA team world ranking - new methodolgy
Post by: Androslav on October 12, 2017, 02:49:25 AM
Fiba has made a new ranking methodology to determine the national team rankings.

And here is the new ranking:

Spoiler: The USA is still 1st

The new system is rewarding teams for their most recent performances. This replaces the system in place under the previous ranking, where all games over the 8-year period received the exact same value.
Finally, the new ranking also recognizes the value of away wins and rewards facing and beating opponents that are higher in the ranking.

Every improvement is welcome!

Belarus over Switzerland and Romania at 56 was a pleasant surprise, other than that, you know the top 3 before opening the page.

So I guess this is our roster.

I was confused as to what this World Cup is. I guess it's just another international tournament with no real stakes.

eja, the world cup is a prestigious award.

The qualifiers are a different story, as the USA (and not only) don't bother to send their stars.

PS also the FIBA ranking is not affected only by a team's games at the WC - the WC and the FIBA rankings are two completely diff things afaik
