I read that the Celtics are one of four teams in contact with Bogut. There are 14 guaranteed contracts right now and I think Bogut would be a great signing. Not knowing how Morris trial will turn out, Bogut would be a good insurance policy and give us more experience. It would also allow Horford to play more PF when Stevens goes big.
You can never have enough big men. Horford, Baynes, Bogut would be a great rotation of different styles of big men. Hey, just look at it like this, we'd be switching Zizic out for Bogut.
-
I would love to pick up Bogut. Play him short minutes during the season and use him bigger minutes in playoffs.
-
Bogut or T Rob works for me

TP. My thoughts exact.

If Bogut stayed fit he could be one of the bargains of the offseason. I doubt he would get big minutes, but most of them would be quality.
-
a bit off topic, but when does the training camp start?

most likely the other way around, just like it happened with the warriors
-
Bogut does 3 things at a really high level: Rebound, protect the rim, pass from the elbows. 2 of those are big weaknesses for the Celtics and the third makes him a perfect fit as Al Horford's backup. Bogut is perfect.
But you're gambling on a big man who is 33 years old and has only played 56% of possible regular season games over the last 6 years. It's the 15th roster spot so it's not a huge gamble but it's a gamble nevertheless.
-
I'd hope to add a big to roster at the 15th spot. Can't help but think of bill Walton who really was done by the time he came to the celtics.
Bill as a trailblazer early on was one of the best all around centers to EVER play. Injuries obviously did him in
Bogut was a very good all around center until that horrible broken bone, since then he has looked very good but had an injury history.
To me at 15th spot, why not??? He can ease into lineup, if sore, sit him. He could realistically be the 4th big at times. I'd look hard at him, his iq, passing and rebounding even in limited minutes will help.
-

Bill Walton when healthy was better than Bogut.

Yes see line one of best ever centers to ever play per bill Walton

Walton had one good year off the bench in '86, then his feet gave out. A good Walton was much better than Bogut.

Depends who else you can get; availability is an ability. Maybe I'm still feeling scorched from last year; I wanted the Cs to get Bogut at the deadline, was disappointed when we didn't, then watched him get injured immediately. His health, a year later, seems like too big a gamble. Rather get someone serviceable at vet min whose ceiling is lower but whose odds of DNP-INJ are also lower.

If he's only "solidly healed" now, he won't be ready until Christmas. And even then he may still get injured within a couple of games because that's what he does. Sign someone who is not made of pressed sugar please.

This is not the one and only move. Why not take the chance? If he gets injured then we replace him with someone else. What's the big deal? If there was someone else out there that was so much better then why haven't we or someone else scooped him up?
-
Hopefully, he considers us but honestly I am ok either way.

Because capable NBA bigs will be just sitting there midseason pining to play for someone at the vet minimum?
-
Hope we sign him.
He's absolutely what we are looking for as far as solving the rebounding and the rim protection issues. Excellent passer for his position, will fit right in with us.
I get the health concerns, but this is worth the risk.

Yeah, usually. Bogut was one of those himself after Dallas bought him out last season (and before he reinjured himself yet again). Midseason buyouts usually yield a couple of capable players who can be signed on the cheap by contenders.
-
His leg is sound. He is what we need. GSW had a great +/- with him on the floor.
To me it is a no brainer.

Actually, yes, I think there will be one in Boris Diaw who is playing in France with an NBA opt-out clause. He can make most of his money over there until late in the NBA season when a team over here can scoop him up to play for the vet minimum, if needed.

Signing with The Lakers, I thought he wanted to contend?
Can we now sign Anthony Randolph? Bogut is toast...
-
Not awesome

Bogut was chasing a ring last year, what's he chasing this year?

Money. Also, for sure he'll get his buyout at the end of February when the Lakers are out of it, so he can still go ring chase.
-
Lakers signs Andrew Bogut to one year deal..
-
I actually thought he go back to Cleveland...oh well, his lost so lets get Robinson and lets go!!!!!!
-
I am kind of glad he did not come here.
-
It's be good move for the Lakers. They have a lot of young guys. Good to have a good veteran around them. Would have been a nice addition to Cs.
At this point, keep the roster spot open going into the season. Robinson is not very good.

It will be funny if he signs again with Cleveland too. I think it will be good to keep the extra spot and see who is cut before the season starts.

LA closest to Australia
-
I can't imagine Bogut is looking too good these days seeing how he can only latch onto a lowly team like the Lakers. He seems like an obvious choice for at least a playoff contender. Hopefully he doesn't shock the world and lift LA out of the basement.

Have you seen the women in Los Angeles?

I feel sick :(

This just seems odd for both sides.

seems more of a move designed to keep the their pick out of our hands in and in Philly's hands.

My reaction to Bogut signing with the lowly Lakers is the better teams must have passed on him.

Maybe he went to the team offering the biggest check instead of a vet min deal on a contender?

It's partially-guaranteed, probably at/just above the vet minimum. If that's the best he could get... ouch
-
Edited for profanity. Please do not do it again.
Hope he enjoys losing

Yeah, I think this is the takeaway.
Bogut is no longer a difference maker. He should be thinking about making more money and spending time with family. I'm not sure he cares all that much about winning (hence the move), so why not LA?
-
I guess the Lakers really want to impede Zubac's development

Being able to stay healthy for one full game or more is rather underrated on our forum :P
-
bummer, i actually really wanted Bogut, a veteran big who can play and can provide 6 hard fouls
-
He's a perfect fit for LA.
They have Brook Lopez and Zubac as their main bigs who can probably cover 70 games between them, so all they need is somebody to cover 12 games or so that they miss.
Bogut's body can probably only handle 12 games, so all they need to do is coordinate them wisely lol
-

Why?
Bogut is just there wait in the retiree's locker room with Luol Deng so they can be next in line for an assistant coach job.
Both guys are in their mid 30's right? Plenty old enough to coach the group of 19-22 year olds on this Lakers roster.

Has anyone started a LAKERS watch? XD I think we should since we got a pick there :D

Bogut speaks Croatian and plays the same position. His signing with the Lakers sounds more like a nice weather/no playoffs/new opportunities direction in his career.
I actually believe that he will help Zubac become a better pro, and not take too much playing time from him. Bogut will log about 600 season minutes this year IMO. Zubac logged 600+ last year.
there are approximately 4000 (3936 + some OT's) total regular season minutes at center:
Lopez - 2250 mins (75x 30 min)
Bogut - 600 (40x 15 min)
It leaves some 1150 of the remaining minutes for Zubac or others (small ball ideas).
More than enough.
But TBH Zubac is not some unique amazing basketball talent. He is good, but not great and he will get his chances. Even more in the case, that he proves he is a starting caliber material.

I was hoping he would sign with the Celtics. Health not withstanding, his skill set would have been a good fit.
What sucks about him signing with the Lakers is that it makes them better. We all know he can't stay healthy, but when he does play, the Lakers will have a higher chance of winning games. Since we own their pick next year in the tiny 2-5 window, we need LA to be as bad as possible. I worry they might be good enough to hang inside that 8-12 range in the west. I stress might.

Probably Phoenix. Don't think I'd give them a leg up on anyone else.

But Phoenix has Booker who can at least get you buckets. I guess the Lakers could have a better record than Phoenix but it will come down to health.
