By the All Star break, If Brown looks good and Tatum looks Great, why not get Tatum and Brown building that chemistry together right now, as starters, on a top two seed most likely, best of all they would both be super talented role players with the new big three.
Hayward or Brown can cover most Pfs and with added weight so can Tatum. He has an 8'11" SR. That's an avg Centers length.
-
Side note is the Bench mob is now tough, and experienced, with Smart, Morris, Baynes, Rozier, and figure one of the young beasts steps up Yabu or Semi
-
I highly doubt we start off like this, but down the track it definitely will be the way to go.
I don't know what our bench would look like though, with Tatum looking like he'll be the bench SF. And unless we play Morris at SF, I'm not sure who we'd put there.
-
Brown yes. Tatum, no.
I doubt Tatum has enough muscles to switch onto bigs by opening night. Which is exactly what Stevens will expect out of that 3/4 position. Maybe if he develops quick, throw him in after the all-star break for a few games against weaker teams..

Id like to see the following solidified lineups for the first half first 5 games.
Starters= first 7mins
Irving, Smart, Hayward, Horford, Baynes
1st sub= 7mark to 10min mark.
Rozier, Brown, Hayward, Morris, Horford
2nd sub= 10 mark to end of 1st.
Irving, Brown, Tatum, Morris, Theis
3rd sub= 2nd qtr start to 5 min mark
Irving, Smart, Tatum, Theis, Baynes.
"Blitz group"= 5 mark to 9 min mark
Rozier, Brown, Tatum, Semi, Horford
"Finishers" 9 min mark to end of half
Irving, Smart, Hayward, Morris, Horford
Second half you make adjustments based on performances of first half . Try to get guys who have done well in practice some minutes here and there with in the rotations for guys that are struggling or in foul trouble.
After 5 games adjust 1st half rotations if something isn't working.

That looks like a high-octane offense, with a deep bench. Wow.

Sounds like Tatum will add weight slowly; he put on weight too fast and the docs said it contributed to his foot injury. I don't know why 20 pounds more couldn't be possible, though probably not this season. It will happen naturally as he ages.

Where do you find data like that?

The average SR for NBA 4's is 8'10"

Great idea.
I always wanted to see what the record is for the worst defensive rating.

TP +1
OP-your starters sound fun some day.

This is my dream. Grab Ayton or Bamba this year and hopefully we'd then have a replacement for Al.

Here is a question. In this high octane lineup why not have Hayward as your PF and Tatum your SF. Hayward after all played a lot of PF in the playoffs recently and has more mass to withstand the pounding down low.

TP. I think you're exactly right on this.

I can't see this happening at the start of games. Horford will start with Morris, with Baynes as a possibility.
But will happen during some spans, and this is an intriguing lineup.

Good point, although that points to the big weakness in this lineup: they'd have trouble guarding New Orleans, for instance. And defensive rebounding looks like a disaster with this group.

I agree on all points, and also it's unlikely that we'd see this group at the beginning of the season.
Yes, intriguing. But what about rebounds?

Of course, rebounds and (interior) defense are the main concerns.
-
Well especially with all the new players we can zanticipate a long series of 10 game lineup experiments to gather data on combinations.
The real question might be how long before Brad tries this lineup out, and how ready Tatum is/will be for NBA defense, both to play it and beat it? Once he's ready, because I think Brown already is, that lineup could - go - all - the - way!
Horford would be the 5th starter if that happens soon enough. That's a contender alongside the Warriors.
-
I will be (happily) shocked if Tatum can shoot 40%+ from the field initially, with that array of Nowitzki moves against bigger, faster, smarter NBA defenders.

a misleading thread title? i'm shocked!
