Title: Which veteran big will get the 15th spot?
Post by: Eddie20 on September 07, 2017, 08:28:27 PM
A lot of options here. Some with major injury risks. Below are some players that haven't been discussed much...

Splitter is a very interesting target. He was injured for a long time, but returned late last year for the Sixers and showed a new wrinkle to his game - the 3pt shot. Apparently that's something that he's been working on while injured and he shot 6 of them in 8 games (making 2) in very limited minutes (under 10 a game).

Lee was a good soldier here, but he came in out of shape and we had a glut of 4's and 5's. Curious if a second go around, with better condition can bring different results.

Ezeli was injured all of last year and was recently waived. However, he looked pretty good with Golden State and I wonder how his health is. Still only 27, he could be a great reclamation project.

Diaw plays the right way and would give us yet another great passing big. He can hit the 3, but his rebounding has really fallen off with age.

Humphries is another former Celtic who had no issues while here. He too has reinvented his game and in the last 2 seasons (under 15 mpg) is shooting 1.5 3's per game at a near 35% clip.

I don't think Ainge would sign him but I would really like Diaw.  Yes he's old and heavy and doesn't rebound or run the court much anymore.  But he is a threat to shoot, drive, or pass and is a super smart player.  Plus he stays much healthier than a lot of the guys listed.

I definitely like the passing he would bring. Him and Horford would be a great passing duo and Diaw has familiarity with Hayward.

Man, if only Bosh were healthy.

I guess Bogut filling a poor poor man's Bill Walton role and just stay healthy for a year. Ha

My gut says the Celtics are keeping it open in case an interesting player who makes the minimum is waived in training camp.

I think that's a good bet...

I really really like Thomas Robinson. Plays like a chicken with his head cut off, crazy high energy, and specializes in rebounding. He averaged at least 13 rebounds a game per 36 minutes his whole career, granted the most minutes he ever averaged was 18.5, its impressive none the less. He also said on record that he truly believes that if he was given an opportunity, he could be among the top 10 rebounders in the league( http://hoopshype.com/2017/07/02/free-agent-thomas-robinson-looking-for-opportunity-stability/ ). Could he possibly be Stevens next 'one mans trash another mans treasure" star in the making? I'm sot sure but I'm extremely excited about the idea.

The C's went after Diaw before right? I think he chose to sign with the Spurs back then. Can't blame him though.

Who is Thiago Splitter, btw?  Is he the son of Thor and Tiago Splitter?  Sounds like a great rebounder.  Maybe we should look into him . #ItsAlwaysHammerTime

How about we take a flyer on Anthony Randolph. He looks like a fit in the BS system.

I didn't even see this dumb post until now. Thiago is actually a very common Brazilian name, which you would know if you watched MMA. Given that Splitter is of Brazilian descent I was under the impression he used the more traditional spelling.

Keep the emoji's coming, kid.

I'd take Robinson, Hawes, or Hill. These were all guys i wanted here for awhile and they would be just fine as the 11-15th guy.

Only watched some Youtube highlights of him but some Euro scouts have said he has Vlade Divac's game but Vlade is Kevin Durant athletically compared to him. Even back in 2009 when the Spurs were going to sign him there were doubts he could athletically compete at the NBA level. He is just an awful athlete and moves in slow motion. Very talented bigman but forget it with the the NBA at 33 with his body.

If Festus Ezeli can pass a physical, why not bring in a C that has had success off the bench in a Warrior based team.
