Post by: OHCeltic on July 27, 2017, 10:53:10 PM
Trade Rozier to Denver for Barton

Barton is on a 1 year deal and upgrades the team overall.

Starters                         2nd Unit                                   3rd Unit

IT                                   Smart                                      Larkin
Barton                             Brown                                     Nader
Hayward                          Crowder                                  Ojeleye
Morris                              Tatum                                     Yabusele
Horford                            Zizic                                       Baynes

2nd unit could start for some teams

I like Barton, but do we really want to trade one of our few remaining ball handlers for yet another wing? Our roster is imbalanced now, this just makes it that much worse. That said, I've always liked Barton and would have done this trade last season, but as of now it just wouldn't make sense IMO

"Few remaining ballhandlers"?  We have two more ballhandlers signed than we did last season by adding Hayward and Larkin and not losing any.  Losing Rozier would have an impact for sure, but I think Smart, Hayward, and Larkin (in pinches as needed) can make that up.  Rozier did only play 17 min per game last season.

I doubt Larkin will see anything more than garbage minutes, and Hayward as a ball handler only makes up for the loss of Bradley.

To be fair, Hayward is a pretty big upgrade to Bradley, handling and passing.

For all we know, Rozier might be 2nd string right now.

Rozier is the fall back for losing Smart next summer. I doubt he gets traded unless we commit to extending Smart this autumn. His salary is pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things as well.

I don't know what Avery Bradley you've been watching over the years, but you've got to be a pretty rare breed around here to consider him a ballhandler.

I'm going to keep my eye out for a Rozier+Morris for JaMychal Green S&T in September, but otherwise I don't really see Rozier getting traded.  He's a cheap option the next two years, and his salary is too low to make a difference in most trades.

I would love to see that S&T!

I would too.  It's very low probability, but if the Celtics were so inclined they could give Green approximately what Olynyk got (excluding Olynyk's incentives).  Morris and Rozier is very good compensation for Memphis if that price is higher than they'd like to go (or that length longer).  It could add up to $3.5 million in payroll next year, which might be a problem as the Celtics keep an eye on next year's tax.

When can Marcus Morris be traded?

Early September.  Two months from whenever the Bradley trade was officially processed -- don't know off the top of my head when that actually occurred, since there was a delayed announcement and I was on vacation.  September 7th rings a bell.
