Bit of an odd move, don't you think?
Per Shams Charania:

Sources: The San Antonio Spurs have renounced guard Jonathon Simmons, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Go get him Danny! Younger version of Crowder but with a much better offensive game.
-
I doubt they do it but im hoping the Hawks sign him. They need to add talent to stay better then the Nets.

Jae is a few months younger
-
I'm frankly shocked, although they still can sign him as a UFA.
-
How can we sign him? Probably Spurs let him go because he was asking for a lot money. We don't have cap space. Maybe sign and trade of some kind? i just think it's not possible

Worse shooter. Teams often dare him to shoot and leave him wide open.

It's completely not possible.

The Nets GM is the one who pushed the Spurs to sign Simmons out of the D-League, so it wouldn't remotely surprise me if he ended up in Brooklyn.

What I'm precisely "afraid" of is that he is renounced because he is looking for much money in a short deal to showcase himself...and he may be Brooklyn-bound.
He's not franchise-altering talent, but he could help them.

Maybe the Spurs have another move coming up, possibly they are part of the Melo trade?

My guess is they feel he won't actually get a better offer as a UFA, and will come back and take their offer, which is essentially the mid-level, based on rumors from the beginning of free agency.

Simmons was an awful shooter last year. Except fir his defense every other stat on the guy was well below league average. Don't see him blossoming into some sort of above average player any time soon
-
Spoke to Simmons' reps, they are not talking to #Spurs -there is no new deal being discussed. Last call was renouncing his rights. That's it

Spurs free agent Jonathon Simmons has agreed to a three-year deal with the Orlando Magic, league sources tell The Vertical.

Not Brooklyn!
