How much guaranteed? I'm guessing none.
-
Sounds like Yabu goes back overdseas

-
Woj is dropping bombs now. Negates any perceived need for George or Butler now, too.
-
Never heard of this guy
-
Banner 18 confirmed.
-
The German Larry Bird they say..... ;D
-
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DC9W9gTVYAAqdmF.jpg)I officially take this back. Looking in retrospect, this was indeed a woj bomb
-
So they have the German Larry Bird and the Swedish Larry Bird.
-

More like The German Amir Johnson...

Beat me to it!

How much guaranteed? I'm guessing none.
Probably very little. It'll be for the minimum, I'm sure, so we'll sign him after using our space.

I still can't fathom this is Woj ESPN... not Woj Vertical anymore... :(

When it first broke weeks ago, it was supposed to be guaranteed this year with a partial next year.

Seems so:
I'm told the first year in German forward Daniel Theis' 2-year deal with the Celtics is fully guaranteed.

Interesting. That does that mean is makes the roster?

I'm just going to tell myself I'm Woj's source for this one.

The expectation is that he will. Something can obviously change that plan in the next few months -- injury, looking completely out of place in training camp, a camp invitee looking like someone they can't let away, but for now, he's probably got he 14th or 15th roster spot.
-
So what is the actual value of the contract?
-
hes a gutsy player :) think of jerebko like ^^ welcome Daniel!
-
Wonder is Jonas is now a goner for good
-
The signing was expected and glad it's not another guard.
-
Sweet Dreams are made of this guy!!

German Larry Bird? More like the German Detlef Schrempt.
I don't care what anyone says, that was funny.

If I had to guess, he's got $50,000 guaranteed and the rest is team options. Expect him to be gone at some time during camp/preseason.
-
Theis looks to me that he can actually play. I think he replaces Amir in the rotation.

He can't be the German Detlef Schrempf because Detlef is the German Detlef.

Maybe he is the German Jonas, or Jonas is the Swedish Daniel.

Theis is our fireworks.
I don't know a lick about him, but I assume he takes Jerebko's minutes. I'm gonna miss my girlfriend showing me instagram photos of JJ's hot wife.

Yawn.........

KO and Theis...there are two the two huge summer signings
-
Looks a little undersized for a PF, but fairly athletic.
Doesn't appear to have a lot of offensive versatility.
He did shoot 41% from 3 last year, though only 1.3 attempts per game in 20 minutes per game.
His per-36 numbers overall are decent, 17.5 pts , 8.3 reb, 1.7 blk, 1.2 stl.
He reminds me of Brandon Bass a little bit for some reason, maybe it is the size, quickness, and lack of offensive polish.
Could be a decent player.

This is 6'9" with long arms and is quite mobile. He can block shots and shoot the 3. I think he could be a good role player for The Celtics this coming year. He's as big as Amir Johnson.

Word is the full two year deal is guaranteed.

I'm gonna watch his highlights again and pretend that someday people will talk about this signing as a Spurs-like coup.

Zizic has also looked good in in practice according to Souza. It would be nice to see some rebounding this year between these two.

I still wonder the role this guy plays. Prob jerebko

Probably. Slightly better defense and rebounding, slightly worse shooting. His job is to play defense, rebound, and hit open 3-pointers as the 5th option on offense.
To be clear, I don't think he gets near the amount of minutes Jerebko got last year, but I don't think Jerebko was getting that amount of minutes if he stayed. I do think he'll get more minutes than Yabusele, Ojeleye, and Nader. In other words, he's a 12th man.
-
has the overrating begun? i'm too lazy to go and check.
I think(and this is just a wild guess) this guy will be the same as Jordan mickey.
-
i see a Chris Birdman Anderson type of role. someone to play solid defense, dish out hard fouls, gets dunked on a lot etc.

Birdman couldn't shoot the 3 like Theis can.

He has to be better than Mickey. He's 25 and has pro experience.
I'd like to think he will be better than Jerebko, but I can't say. Unfortunately, most of the youtube clips of him are just a bunch of dunks off lob passes.
-

I can't imagine this guy being a 10-11th man in our rotation, as Jerebko was.
-

I can't imagine this guy being a 10-11th man in our rotation, as Jerebko was.
Jerebko was closer to 9th-10th than he was 11th. He played all of 31 minutes less than Rozier, who was 9th in minutes, and more than double Gerald Green's minutes, who was 11th.
I think Theis will be a 12th man type (Zeller minutes or fewer), but I'm not sure that Jerebko would have any larger of a role this year than Theis. We have so many more options at the stretch 4 this year that have more versatility to their game than Jerebko. So when I say Theis will have Jerebko's role, I mean what JJ would have had this year had he returned, and not what his role was last year.

I see Brad experimenting with multiple guys. End of day, most productive guy will get the most minutes.

I agree. I just think that Theis will be around the 12th most productive guy. :)
-
Anyone suggesting Theis takes Jonas' role keep in mind it seems we will be A LOT deeper this year. If Jonas was 10-11 man off bench last year, this year 10-11 is now what.. Rozier/Tatum/Theis with Semi/Zizic/Yabu behind.
-

Hah! Well played, sir.

i see a Chris Birdman Anderson type of role. someone to play solid defense, dish out hard fouls, gets dunked on a lot etc.
again, you would benefit from actually watching his highlights before fingers to keyboard. theis is tough under the basket and being dunked on is not going to be his signature role. ask zizic about that. ;D
oh, and he shot 41% from 3 point land in europe last year.

Facing most of the time players suitable for the end of an nba bench...
-
Totes see Theis playing more minutes at the 4 than Morris and Crowder. This is gonna' be one special year, guys!
-
Can we say 3 and D?
40% plus 3 point shooter.
Averages about a block per game.
Seems to have good hops for a big man.
Euro stats:

I am envisioning something equivalent to late career David Lee but really don't have much to go on. It seems that Morris, Horford, and Baynes will get their minutes at PF/C so Theis and Zizic will battle for the remaining 15 minutes or so. Yabusele could be in the mix too I guess but I don't really expect that. We know pretty much what we can expect from the Vets but the who knows on Theis and Zizic. Probably Theis will turn out to be more NBA ready.
-
I see Theis being kind of like a Birdman Anderson with a deep ball. Undersized for a 5. Under skilled for a 4. But high energy and high production on the defensive end. I could see him playing a lot of minutes as a stretch 5
-
I'd be perfectly fine with a 3-and-D stretch big. If he can be a more athletic JJ, I'll be thrilled.
-

I think that's exactly what he'll be
-
I think he's going to start alongside Horford. Either that or the first big off the bench
