Bulls' Rajon Rondo is out indefinitely w/ a broken right thumb.
Will this change the series?
-
Series changer. Celtics right back in this despite the 0-2 deficit.
-
yes.
this is massive.
-
Does anyone know what happened? "Slipping in the shower" again?
-
Tough break.
-
Prayer works...not for injury but a break.
Just what we needed, they don't have a PG.
-
Does anyone know what happened? "Slipping in the shower" again?
I think he hurt it during game 2
-
Wow what a blessing.
If this doesn't give our guys some motivation i dont knkw what will.
-
Hate to see an injury, particularly to Rondo who did a lot for this franchise, but I'll take it.
Wonder if Hoiberg will play MCW and just try to overwhelm IT/Bradley with size. Too bad he sucks, and Grant's not ready.
-
Once a Celtic...always a Celtic. LOL
I wonder did he get the call from PP and KG to take one for the team.
-
This is HUGE, but the team still has to actually rebound.
Can't let Lopez kill us again..
-
Boston SHOULD win tonight. If they don't they have no pride. Few days off, Rondo hurt, should come out and win...
Lose tonight and this is over.
-
Does anyone know what happened? "Slipping in the shower" again?
i hear he got too close to olynyk. ;)
-
As much as I want the Celtics to win...I have mixed feels, even if they do actually win.
-
bummed for Rondo - this series was revitalizing his career after Dallas and Sac.
happy for us, I think. Rondo won't be picking on IT anymore but does this make the backcourt Wade and Butler? if it does, they'll eat IT alive.
if they go with MCW instead at PG we have a real chance to bounce back in this series.
-

I saw what you guys did there. Excellent. ;)
It's uncanny how bad news seems to follow in Rondo's wake.

I don't know what they'll do, but their net rating has been 20 points worse with Rondo on the bench, so what they've been doing so far hasn't worked all that well. (That's about the only thing that hasn't worked well.)
-
Don't let us win today!
-
Am I the only one who doesn't like this ?
As much as I want the celtics to win , and as much as it is our turn to have a break for once, I wanted to see these guys rise to the occasion and have their butts handed to them if they didn't.
-
WOOOOOOOOOOOOW This is huge.
Butler and Wade will certainly have some explosive high-scoring games, but they still need to win 2 against the Cs.

They'll still lose if they play like they've been playing the first two games. They just need to play their best regardless of who is suited up against them.
-
Yesssssss
He was killing us
[dang] playoff Rondo
-
If this means winning the series and carrying momentum into the 2nd round, then great. If we squeak by just because Rondo got injured ruining any chance he had at redemption and masking our need for a roster shakeup, then I'd rather have played Chicago at full strength.
-
well a stroke of misfortune for the bulls. hate to see this happen but those are the breaks.
Celtics have hope of winning this series again. But it has to start with a WIN tonight.
-
Was it KO that did this???
-
Xs and Os question for the group:
How should CBS adjust to this? Two options:
Do you put Marcus or Avery on the the new Bulls pg to force more turnovers?
Do you hide IT4 on the new Bulls pg because he'll be less of an offensive threat?
-
Sean Highkin Twitter
Hoiberg estimates Rondo will be out at least a week to 10 days. He's wearing a cast.
-
Chicago should have Wade run the PG and play Grant off the ball.

Problem with Option 1 is that IT's now covering somebody like Wade or Butler, or, if we go crazy with it, Mirotic or Portis. Seems like a non-starter. Gotta keep IT on their PG.

Hide him on the new pg.
Isaiah Thomas should not be guarding D-wade.

This. The series hasn't been about how good the Bulls have played, it's been all about how bad the Celtics have played. Celtics have to take care of their business first or none of it matters.
-
Watch MCW go off for 50 or something ???

Yeah, no hero ball and hitting your wide open shots should be enough, right? Right?
Fine, cut down on those turnovers, too, just to be sure.
-
Why couldnt this happen before game 2.
-
OMG! It's true! Coach Hoiberg said he broke it on Olynyk's Elbow! Too funny!
-
OMG! It's true! Coach Hoiberg said he broke it on Olynyk's Elbow! Too funny!
Kelly Olynyk: Man of Steel
Kelly "Bonecrusher" Olynyk?
-
Likely, this means that he is out until they can get the swelling under control.
He was superb in the 1st two games.
Bulls shouldn't be able to win without him-unless Butler and Wade are on fire from the outset. Its not just the plays he makes, its how he gets the other guys to move.
-
OMG! It's true! Coach Hoiberg said he broke it on Olynyk's Elbow! Too funny!
So does this mean we are going to resign the guy for all he does for us that doesn't show up on a stat sheet!?! ;D
-
This is huge. They're not just trying to replace Rondo, they have to replace Playoff Rondo. And so now if Wade reverts to Old Wade instead of Playoff Wade, the Celtics will have the decisive advantage again, maybe even win four straight if Playoff Wade disappears for four straight.
This is a sign.
God/Allah/Kek wills the C's to victory.
-
Well isn't that some dumb luck.
Not to wish injuries on anybody, but it's too bad it wasn't Robin Lopez.
-
bummed for Rondo - this series was revitalizing his career after Dallas and Sac.
I think his play here and over the last part of the season has done enough that he'll be viewed as an attractive option by some teams for next year. I'm happy for him.
For our part - good news, but not great news, I think. Butler can still go off for 40 and dominate the game in the 4th quarter , and if he does that in game 3 or 4, we will be very hard pressed to take the series.
-
Can Kelly skate? I think the Bruins can use him right now. I mean, he's Canadian, after all...
-
Bulls will let Jimmy Butler be a point forward and handle the ball IMO
-

Get the heck out....this is unreal.

I think he needed to show in this series he still could be Playoff Rondo to really draw interest. his regular season play down the stretch would have kept him in the league with someone but with his play the past couple of games in the series, I think a team looking on the playoff margins could look at him as a player that could push them further in the playoffs. hope so for his sake.

Given that Jimmy Garoppolo played his way into "possible franchise quarterback" status in 1.5 career games, I think Rondo's two game stint here is enough.

Lol, Olynyk is good for injuring opposing teams' players...not a bad contribution to the team at least. The Bernard Pollard of the NBA.
-
Real talk. If the Celtics can't win this game with all these factored in, then they do not belong here in the playoffs lol.
-
I know it's wrong to celebrate someone's injury, but.....
-

He punched out Big Baby.

But garopollo only has good film. Rondo has a lot of bad from just this season.
-
I think it's safe to say that KO's defensive prowess is highly underrated.
-
An underrated factor of Rondo being injured will be Robin Lopez's production.
I watched a fair bit of Bulls this year and one staple for that offense was the Robin Lopez 44% mid-range shot. Rondo was capable of feeding him a steady supply of these in the same way he used to do so with KG; by dribbling 10 feet into the crease drawing Lopez's defender, and kickin it out for an easy 2. It's a subtle little move but one that's huge for their spacing and something I don't think Jerian Grant or Michael Carter-Williams are particularly adept at
That's not even to mention that Rondo is one of the top 3 post entry passers in the league. Of all the guys who could have the biggest drop off without Rondo, I'd put Lopez at the top of the list.

I won't say so..
-
in all likelihood, rondo's minutes will be taken up by grant. this could be very, very good for the celtics.
i just read that so far in this series in the 27 minutes when grant played, chicago has been outscored by the celtics by 9.7 points per 100 possessions, worst of any bulls player who's seen action.
this is according to NBA.com/Stats.
thank you once more olly!!!!!! now if you could just do something about lopez. ;)

And Paul Milsap thought the Wizards were playing MMA-style...
Kelly "Send You to the Clinic" Olynyk. Dislocating shoulders and taking out 3rd options since 2015.

Wow, this is big. I think this flips the series, because not only did I think we'd actually come to play in Chicago, Rondo's absence is going to take away one of their main matchup advantages against us.
Matt Moore just posted an article that argued a lot of our rebounding issues are on our guards, specifically IT and AB, as much as our bigs. And in the video proof, both of them don't even look like they're attempting to go for boards. I'd say IT's sister's death had a lot to do with that; he's not shown very much energy since that happened.
http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-playoffs-the-celtics-rebounding-issues-vs-the-bulls-start-with-their-guards/
What's also interesting in that article is Amir's rebounding stats compared to JJ's rebounding stats, albeit in a small sample size. I really hope we play more JJ and less of Amir. We just matchup so much better with them that way, especially with Rondo out now and him feeding their bigs easy looks no longer an issue.

Game 2 was Zipser
Game 3 will be Grant
Game 4 will be Felicio
Bulls players that have and will explode sigh lol

Seriously, we should at least win one
