I understand why the Bucks are resting players for the playoffs ... can anyone explain to me the phenomenon of non-playoff teams resting their players? The Nets "resting" Brook Lopez and Jeremy Lin, in a game that could decided the final playoff spot? Sacramento, Denver, New Orleans, etc., all resting players ... for November?
Fourth!
Last game of the season, but not the last game thread! Thanks flc and a tp as ever.
Celtics win this one big time and clinch the best record in the east. Life is good.
Goooooooooooooooooooo first place Celtics! ;D
Hope C's win this and not get the 1 seed by default

They don't want a bad injury like a torn acl going into the offseason, ruining the trade value of their top players. Also, they can get a good look at players they have to make a decision on for next season.
Still, it really sucks for teams fighting for playoff spots.
It would be unforgivable to blow this opportunity.
1st. in the East? I didn't even dream of it.
Good to know. I remember that too....which may mean that we are both approaching "ancient" in terms of age. ;)Fourth!

One of my favorite Celtics teams of all time and the team that drew me into being a Celtics fan, the 1969 Celtics went into the playoffs as the 4th seed and won it all so the 4th seed is pretty good in my opinion. TP :)
I've decided that the magnitude of this game makes it extremely unhealthy to watch. Yet, here we are. This is one of those games that we will look back to if they are lucky enough get to the ECF.
I do believe our playoffs hopes are more promising if we can avoid Toronto in round 2. Doubt we steamroll anyone along the way, but a trip to the ECF seems attainable. And home court would make it all the sweeter.
Win the game, Celtics!

Maker too quick for Amir
Where would Brogdon go in this year's draft?tough question. Hes been terrific but at the same time he is 24. hes unlikely to ever be too much better than he is today.
I don't get why Jerebko is playing over Brown.
People who call the Celtics deep clearly do not watch this team.havent been deep since IT and Crowder came off the bench.

If I was Ainge/FO, before even thinking about resigning KO I would demand a medical evaluation to confirm his gender. No judgement here, just sayin.... ;D
Serious question: Does this team have another gear? I haven't seen one all season.

If this season's history is any guide, we'll turn it on in the fourth quarter and hope to squeak it out.
Mike
Cavs resting everyone and still will get the top seed. Boston can't even stay with a team of d leaguers
I still can't comprehend how we're down double digits against the Bucks scrubs? How do we expect to compete in the playoffs?
Cavs resting everyone and still will get the top seed. Boston can't even stay with a team of d leaguers
Relax sunshine, the Cavs are getting blown out so we will get the #1 seed regardless.
I still can't comprehend how we're down double digits against the Bucks scrubs? How do we expect to compete in the playoffs? They are a bad frontcourt matchup for the C's.
IT has been repeatedly torched this gameI still can't comprehend how we're down double digits against the Bucks scrubs? How do we expect to compete in the playoffs?
That's what happens when you're bench offense sucks. I demand more minutes for IT.
Celtics about to FLIP the their switch ..... ;D
Baffled by Stevens rotation tonight. Going 11 deep?
The Cavs resting their guys shows how little concern they have about Boston - unfortunately, can you fault their thinking ?

Disgusting effort from these Celts they should be embarrassed
Is Milwaukee at full strength?
Boston on a tear since I turned on the game. I have to leave for a little bit, should I?

It's not just IT. AB getting torched by Brogdon too. I won't even mention our pathetic front court.
Boston on a tear since I turned on the game. I have to leave for a little bit, should I?
They may be resting players, but I think Kidd really wants to win every time he comes to Boston ever since the crowd kept chanting 'wife beater' when he was at the line as a player.
The flaws REALLY show themselves when the 3's aren't falling. ugh
we don't have a small-ball 3-point attack either -- other than IT, a lot of inconsistent outside shooters. when they're on, we can beat anyone. when they're not, we can be beat by anyone. The flaws REALLY show themselves when the 3's aren't falling. ugh
Exactly - we have more significant building to this group to play for a title. Just hope that Ainge and Stevens are not so in love with small-ball 3-point attack that they don't add size and an inside game. We don't have one right now.
With the Bulls and Pacers comfortably ahead tonight, it's looking like the Heat will miss the playoffs and the Bulls would be our 1st round opponent.I'd be p---ed if I was Miami. Bulls and Pacers got freebie games tonight

As good as Brogdon has looked against us on the offensive end, he absolutely cannot guard IT. He got torched last game too.if a second round rookie could guard IT, I'd be very worried about this team even getting out of the first round

Nice D by Jaylen.
Well, I get it for the teams that are locked into a spot. I dont get it for Brooklyn. Like why? With the Bulls and Pacers comfortably ahead tonight, it's looking like the Heat will miss the playoffs and the Bulls would be our 1st round opponent.I'd be p---ed if I was Miami. Agreed. The league needs to fix this, teams resting players shouldn't determine who makes the playoffs.
I think for what its worth, Johnson may not be worth his contract. But don't tell me he doesn't try to hustle as hard as he can, despite his demise from injuries. He's always been a great team player, a guy you need on your team.
Let's win this thing, man. To be the number 1 seed by default would break my little bitty heart.

amir was beloved in Toronto for this very reason. Keep him over KO
Amir Johnson is a better 3 point shooter than Olynyk. There, I said it.

Kelly has more important things to worry about .....
Like Which hair doo to use.
KO is disgusting can't wait till he's off this team
I don't care Jaylen Brown is missing. I love his aggressiveness. He just darts in, and almost finishes... Once he improves, and he's only 20!
Again with the all-bench lineup, smh..cavs are 9 minutes from giving us the 1 seed. What does it matter
Again with the all-bench lineup, smh..cavs are 9 minutes from giving us the 1 seed. What does it matter
how is spencer hawes getting superstar calls?
When was the last time a number 1 seed got beat in the first round? Was it Dallas? Celtics are about to become the next team. Bucks don't even have their best player and the Celtics have their hands full. If they play the Bulls they will struggle to beat them in 7 games. This might be the worst number seeded team in playoff history.we are underrated even by our own fans like you
#1 seed is ours. Raptors up 19 with 8:52 minutes to go.The way they've been playing lately almost feels like they dont deserve it.

Man bun
Exactly. I shut it off. I am disappointed in the bench. Must improve in the playoffs.Again with the all-bench lineup, smh..cavs are 9 minutes from giving us the 1 seed. What does it matter
Here come the cavs...and boston using a BS line up in crunch time. Come on.Starters should not be coming back into this game.
89 -73 Raptors 4 minutes
Done.
what a poor show up from us in such an important game (regardless of the cavs game)we're leading and have limited AL and IT's minutes. you expect we up by 50?
KO finally chipping in. 2 big 3's and a nice pass on the Bradley cut. If he doesn't play with confidence in the playoffs we have no use for him.

Well, that's been a problem all year, not just tonight. Here come the cavs...and boston using a BS line up in crunch time. Come on.Starters should not be coming back into this game.
You are right...but this bench is not getting it done

#1 seed AND the the best lottery odds in the same season. I'm going to guess that that has never happened before.
Ending season in style!!!
Give Gerald green extension before other teams realize he's good
If pacers lose today, we face the heatpacers up 11 with 5 left.
We finished the right way .
Make LeBron look lazy
C's had the #2 pick. Cleveland had the #1 pick and used it for Brad Daugherty#1 seed AND the the best lottery odds in the same season. I'm going to guess that that has never happened before.
1986..Boston won the title and had the top pick in Bias

LOL at Boston fans who still do not believe in this team.
Great end to the season.
The celticsnow need 16 more wins. ;D
There are no concerns. The only concerns should be the refs giving star calls to lebron
CELTICS...... BEST RECORD IN THE EAST.... EACH TEAM STARTED 0-0 CELTICS WON MORE GAMES THAN ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE EAST.
no more than any other lottery team but that's not what you said.did the celtics have best chance at top pick? I believe they didC's had the #2 pick. Dang right there are. The bench is a real problem. The inside defense is a real problem. The shooting blows hot and cold.LOL at Boston fans who still do not believe in this team.
There are legitimate concerns with this team. The East is totally up for grabs, and I could see 1-5 seeds in the Finals.
But that also means that the Cs have if not the best shot, then very close to the best shot to get there. And that would be fun...
The lottery has only used its modern weighted system since 1990. Technically boston had the best odds but they were tied with a few other teams with best odds.no more than any other lottery team but that's not what you said.did the celtics have best chance at top pick? it'd be the same situation if they won the title this year and ended up with the #2 pick after the lottery drawing.
The lottery wasn't as heavily weighted as it is now but they moved away from coin flips only just before that year. I believe the drawing was equal odds for all participants that year. they later moved to a slightly weighted system before arriving at the heavily weighted system in current use.The lottery has only used its modern weighted system since 1990. I dont think a team has ever better odds than anyone else and had a #1 seed. That seems unprecedented. You'd have to check the last 27 years to see.

in any case, the C's did win the title in '86 but did not have the #1 pick which was my point.
even odds for all teams is still weighting. just 100% weighting for all.the lottery wasnt weighted at all.The lottery wasn't as heavily weighted as it is now but they moved away from coin flips only just before that year.
