Title: Fun Season Ticket Member Facts (Move-up day)
Post by: mef730 on April 06, 2017, 11:10:24 AM
My favorite days of the year are the days after Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and Halloween, when all the leftover candy goes on sale for 50% off.

Shortly behind those days, though, is my next favorite day of the year: Season Ticket Member move-up day. That day is just as the name sounds. It's the day when STMs can move their seats if they choose to do so. If there are seats available and you click on them fast enough, they're yours. Your particular move-up day is based on how long you've been a STM; the longer you've been one, the earlier you get to choose.

I'm not sure why I enjoy this day so much, since I love my seats and have no intention of moving. But it's fun to take a look and see what's out there, or if I could get two of the eight tickets in the entire Garden that I would switch to (I can't.).

Fun stuff:

Map of the Garden: http://www1.ticketmaster.com/boston-celtics-vs-brooklyn-nets-boston-massachusetts-04-10-2017/event/0100510F0F76A4B0?artistid=805903&majorcatid=10004&minorcatid=7&f_tmol_checkout=true&ab=m_efeat4786v1

Tickets went on sale at 10am. When I clicked onto the map at that time, there were just over 100 seats remaining (I don't know how many of the 17,000+ seats can go to STM and how many are saved for general sale.). That's actually a touch higher than at the same time last year, which is probably due to a hefty price increase that they took. Not a single one of those seats was in the balcony.

When I did my final sample at 10:22 am, there were 90 seats left. Of those 90, 23 were singles. I don't know how often people buy single seats as STM. I am pleased to note, though, that the guy who took the single seat next to me last year has given it up, meaning that I will once again have a place to put my coat.

There were actually some really good seats available this year that weren't available last year. In particular, there are four seats in Section 2 and six seats in Section 11 available in Row B, which is the second row of the folding chairs on the floor (In some sections, there was also a row or two that are actually courtside. You could stick out a foot and trip a player [cough, cough Lebron].). Hope you're wealthy, though. You're buying 43 games at just over $300 each.

Want "Center Six" seating, which are the three sections on each side that bracket mid-court? You're looking at about $175-200 per ticket per game, but you'll be at least 10 rows up in the loge. You'll be about even with the foul line and, in a few cases, in the dead center of a row of 18.

I see exactly one set of two tickets that I would consider buying if I didn't have my current tickets: Section 7, Row D, on the aisle (the "outside" aisle). Added bonus: Legarrette Blount sits on the floor a few rows in front of you. Tickets are $100 per seat per game.

My relocation day was yesterday and I was surprised to see that there was actually a pair available towards the back of section 1 ($195/ticket).

Prime seating was non-existent last year. This year, there are at least a few options, albeit not great ones.

Elected to keep my seats, I have a perfect view of the court and moving up 4 rows in my same section increases my cost $25 per ticket.

Mike - have the Celtics disallowed buying 2 out of 3 seats in a row? Buddy just tried to do it and it didn't allow him to. If that's the case you are definitely grandfathered into an excellent situation.

I don't actually know. I thought they had, but they just sold two out of three seats in the last row of Section 14. Seats 13-15 had been available. Now, only 13 is. I had trouble when I first tried to do it online a few years ago, but a phone rep helped me out. Maybe they could do it over the phone for your friend if the seats are still available.

This was my 1st year, so no access until 1pm, real slim pickings... I kept my Loge 6 seats.

Agree with you on Easter and Halloween - I must walk away with 30 bags of candy for each [after] holiday. And it's all for me - no kids and partner doesn't care much for candy. It really is an incredible time for me.

As for season tickets, sometimes I wish I still lived in Boston full-time so I could enjoy being at the Garden rather than streaming games; however, I have completely forgotten what winter feels like and I can't complain about that.

Can't say I blame you. Those are pretty good tickets.

There are a few available in Loge 9 and Loge 4, but that's about it for the cheaper Loge tickets.

Scratch that, got a pair in row K.  Only $10 more per ticket to move up a fair amount.

Yeah this season has been a lot of fun and it's close to being behind the basket, but it's a pretty good view.  Only once in a blue moon does the basket block stuff.  But my girl and I decided to move up because it was quite cheap ($10 per ticket) to move up a pretty good # of rows.

We found this topic really helpful though as first year people so that's a TP for you sir.

My first tickets were in sec 16 row H. It is fun being close but the basket obstructions did bother me a bit, the closer you get the worse it gets in my opinion, so be weary of that if you are not familiar with being down that close in the jungle.
I also had tickets last season in sec 7 for a game, sat near the Celtics "Bob Marley" man that guy was beyond annoying. During game play he just harasses everyone and anyone around him and during commercials runs up front so he can be on the jumbotron. I've boycotted sections 6 and 7 because of him.

This is basically my experience as well.  First year holder (I gave them up for two seasons after holding from 2007-2014) and I logged in at 1pm to find basically nothing available.  Logged back in at 3pm and found tons.  My rep explained that when they first became available, everybody snatched them up which held them up in people's carts for several minutes and then it took a while to be re-released.

I went from Section 317 Row 8 from 2007-2014, to Section 315 Row 12 last season, up to Section 317 Row 4 now.  Cost me $14 per to move up 8 rows from near the back of the balcony to up near the front.  Very pleased with the move.

p.s. Props to everyone who held on during the stretch I gave up my tickets.  I couldn't stomach the celts having the balls to raise my ticket price after they traded away Pierce, Garnett, and Rondo.  I was pleased with the trade at the time, but I couldn't believe they raised prices after it.

Glad to help. Truthfully, I love this stuff. My dream job would be either revenue management at an airline or being on the team that comes up with ways to make the lines move faster at Disney World.

Try this one. Just click on section 6 and choose row K. We have friends in 6, row F, so I'll stop by and say hello sometime.
