Game Notes
The Celtics host the Orlando Magic for the 3rd and final meeting between the Celtics and Magic this season.  These two teams were 2-2 last season.  The Magic have lost 2 straight and 7 of their last 10.  The Celtics are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are looking to close out their home stand with a win.  The Celtics are 27-10 at home while the Magic are 13-24 on the road.

The Celtics won both games so far this season.  They won 127-98 in Boston on January 27. They also won in Orlando 117-87 on December 7.  The Magic are 12-42 all time against the Celtics.  They have lost 12 straight in Boston.

Jonas Jerebko is a game time decision for the Celtics with a knee injury.   Former Celtic Jeff Green is a game time decision with back soreness.   The Magic traded Serge Ibaka at the trade deadline and so have a different look than they did the last time these two teams met.

Standings Reset

With the loss to the Bulls on Thursday night, the Celtics once again move half a game in front of the Cavaliers for first in the East.  The Wizards and Raptors both lost on Wednesday and so Washington remains 2 games back of the Celtics and the Raptors remain 3 games back.  Milwaukee and Atlanta are both 9 games back.
Games to Watch Indiana at Toronto,  Philadelphia at Cleveland,  Washington at Utah

Key Matchups

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/isaiah_thomas.png) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/elfrid_payton.png)
Isaiah Thomas vs Elfrid Payton
Payton is averaging 12.5 points, 6.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals.  He is quick and will try to limit Isaiah's looks at the basket.  He also has a size advantage and may try to use that to challenge Isaiah's defense.

(http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/3213.png&w=250&h=180) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/nikola_vucevic.png)
Al Horford vs Nikola Vucevic
Vucevic gives the Magic length to protect the paint.  He is averaging 14.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists.   The Celtics need to box him out, to keep him from getting rebounds and second chance baskets.  They also need to keep him out of the paint to keep him from getting layups.

Honorable Mention
Avery Bradley vs Evan Fournier
Fournier has given the Celtics problems in the past.  It will be up Avery to keep him from having a big game in this one.  He is averaging 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Avery will need to stay with him beyond the arc or he will make them pay.

Keys to the Game
Defense - Defense wins games pure and simple.  It seemed as though the Celtics had found their gritty defense during this home stand but then they let it slip once again against the Bucks.    They need to get back into the mindset of making defense their priority and once again play tough team defense.

Rebound - The Celtics have to crash the boards in order to give themselves extra possessions as well as to prevent the Magic from getting second chance points and fast breaks.  The Magic are averaging 43.2 rebounds per game.  The Celtics need to work hard to beat the Magic to the rebounds.

Be Aggressive - The Celtics need to be the more aggressive team.  They must be the first to loose balls and rebounds, and they have to be aggressive in driving to the basket and not always settling for jumpers.  They must be aggressive on defense and set the tone for the game.  They have to play like they want it more.

Move the Ball Carefully
- The Celtics have to move the ball and find the open man.  But in moving the ball, they have to make careful passes and not get sloppy.  The Magic will make the Celtics pay if they don't value every possession.  The Celtics play much better when they keep the ball moving and don't play hero ball.

Play 48 Minutes - The Celtics have to get off to a good start and build a lead and then not let up until the final buzzer.  They have to be ready for every Magic run and meet it with defense and then make their own runs.  They have to play from opening tip till final buzzer with no let up.

X-Factors
Bench Play - The Celtics bench struggled against the Bucks and the Celtics will need more out of them in this game.  The Magic's reserves are averaging 35.4 points per game this season and so the Celtics reserves have to give them more than they did on Wednesday.

Officiating Factor - Officiating will be an X-Factor for every game. Every crew has their own way of calling the games and they have their own agendas. Will they call it fairly or in favor of one team or the other? Will they let them play or call every little minor contact? The way the game is called always has an effect on the players and the way they play.  The Celtics have to be able to adjust to however the refs call it.

Magic should be tanking hard and ensure that 3 spot.

Trade Vucevic, Fournier, Green:  get an elite point guard, move on from serviceable Payton, and start again.

we are #1 already, half game lead. we could go up bigly today with a win and another loss by them. don't count on them losing to the 6ers lol, even though it's a b2b.

15th!!  Barely made the roster this time.

This is a big game, HUGE game.  Not for standings but simply for the guys to get back on track.  TAKE CARE OF THE BALL.  A few less turnovers and they would have beaten the Bucks.

The Magic have the ugliest mugs in the league.  Punch them in the mouth (figuratively of course).

If I'm 15th man, that means I'm Demetrious Jackson, which means Phantom255x is Gershon Yabusele (since he is now on the Red Claws roster) and you are Ante Zizic.  Those who are right after you are Ben Bentil and Abdel Nader.

He may have never fully recovered. It's very possible that the bug was still there and he consumed something he shouldn't have like a dairy product.

Something like that happened to me 3.5 years ago.

Avery is out tonight again with a stomach bug, per Adam Himmelsbach.

How does one get the stomach bug two times in basically two weeks? Generally you can't get the same bug (virus) twice in the same season.

I guess they do travel a lot, so he could easily pick up another strain of the virus (or a bacterial version). But that seems strange.

Eh, maybe the Nets or Knicks.  Or CLE tonight(!).  Holmes and Luwawu-Cabarrot have been solid lately.  Holmes is probably a better all-around player than Okafor, tbh.

Speaking of horrible defense, the Red Claws are doing their best to spoil Yabusele's debut. After three quarters they've given up 97 points  :P

In 17 minutes Yab is 3-7 for 11pts with 4 rebs. He looks very quick, but also understandably a little lost in offensive and defensive team sets.

So did anyone else notice they cheated us out of a point?  Had to rewind it to find it but I'm fairly certain.

The last several scores in the half were three point plays (either by three or two plus one).  They only gave us two points on the IT three with about a minute to go (didn't check the actual time).  So we should have 57 points.

Guessing that the NBA has a way to correct this sort of thing.

I don't understand why teams always seem to play for their freaking lives when they come at the Garden. Is it because they hate the C's?

Both our individual and team defense has been remarkably bad tonight.  Even though Orlando is only shooting 42.6%, they've gotten tons of open 3's on defensive breakdowns and tons of layups on backdoor cuts and just flat out terrible interior defense.  Very frustrating to watch.

We went through a stretch earlier in the year like this, too, but we were winning most of our games so nobody seemed to mind. That we're struggling with this type of terrible, lackluster D 7 games before the playoffs is certainly concerning, much more than our offensive woes with IT on the bench.

Everything I've heard leans to Gordon Hayward signing with the Boston Celtics. The #1 seed in the East can pitch Stevens + a top draft pick.

I'm not sure how legit this guy is, but I keep seeing more and more where we're looking to be the frontrunner for Hayward this summer, depending upon how the playoffs go for both teams.

I'd prefer Griffin over Hayward, but he'd certainly constitute the secondary scorer that we would need. He'd also be basically "free" to get with just cap space. I just don't know what we'll do with the bigs rotation if we lose Amir, KO, and probably JJ too in order to sign him.

It's not just you.  The refs are reacting to the results of the play and not the play itself, which is the hallmark of bad officiating.

Is it just me, or has virtually every foul call been two seconds late tonight?

It's not just you.  The refs are reacting to the results of the play and not the play itself, which is the hallmark of bad officiating.

Classic Zarba and Barnaky

Looks like The Cavs are winning tonight.

Was hoping sixers would do something but sometimes, LeBron crushes teams, and sometimes Sixers get crushed :D

OMG how long does Smart have to have contact with the ball for a freaking jump ball?!

My God, these refs have been about as bad as I can remember in a C's game.

JJ has been a big help off the bench tonight.
I was just thinking he might be their best rebounder. I'm sure the numbers don't back that up but I feel like he, more than anyone else of the team, is wiling to mix it up under the basket to get a board and often comes away with it.

Yeah, I'm not sure either, especially when everyone else has been hot garbage offensively tonight. It's not like it was his defense that was keeping him from playing...

I am not sure why Brown and Rozier are the ones taking the shots while we trail in the 4th.

I'm not sure we can score with Brown, Smart and Rozier on the floor.

Yet we're still 9th in offensive efficiency this season lol It's crazy. No excuse to not get a secondary scorer this summer. However, between Hayward/Griffin and probably Fultz, that looks like a certainty.

We're freaking lucky to win that game.. Terrible decisions down the stretch. Bad passes. Bad shot by Crowder off the offensive rebound. IT hero ball.

We are not anywhere where we need to be heading into the playoffs. But at least we won and kept the first seed.

If they're not getting our best shot and we're still winning, I guess that's actually an okay thing as long as we're able to give our best shot when it matters.

Yes I would say it as in doubt 97% of the time. Nobody could hit a shot except IT and he barely had space to work in. Jodie "freeking" Meeks torched us for what about 12 points in the span of a few minutes? Why can nobody STILL stop Terrence Ross? I just don't get it.
