Game Notes
The Celtics continue their 6 game home stand as they host the Miami Heat for the 4th and final meeting this season.  The Celtics are 3-0 against the Heat so far this season and have won 6 straight against Miami.

The Celtics have won 6 of their last 7 games and 7 of their last 10.  They have won 13 of their last 14 at home.  They are 26-9 at home while the Heat are 14-21 on the road.  The Celtics are looking for their 4th straight win while the Heat are looking to bounce back after a loss to the Raptors on Thursday.

Avery Bradley missed Friday's game with gastroenteritis, which sent him to the hospital.  Hopefully he will be better and able to play in this one but he is listed as questionable in the game notes and will likely be a game time decision.  If he can't play, Jaylen Brown will likely get the start once again in his place.  If there is any doubt that the Celtics need Bradley's defense, just look at Devin Booker's game on Friday.

The Heat will be without Chris Bosh(blood clots), Josh McRoberts (foot), Justise Winslow (shoulder), and Dion Waiters (ankle).  Chris Bosh has missed the entire season and the other 3 are listed out for this game.  Hassan Whiteside has been dealing with an ankle injury but said he expects to play in this game.  He is listed as a game time decision.

As of this writing, the Heat are 8th in the East.  They are just 1 game behind the Pacers and could easily slip up to the 7th spot with as well as they are playing.  Also, the Celtics are just .5 games out of first and so may end up with the best record in the East even if the Heat stay in 8th.  Either way, the Heat are a possible playoff foe and so the Celtics need to get a win here to send a message should they meet in the first round.

Standings Reset
The Wizards beat the Cavs on Saturday to allow the Celtics to climb within 1/2 game of the Cavs for the top spot in the East.  That win did move the 3rd place Wizards to within 2 games of the Celtics for the 2nd spot.   The Raptors pulled to within 3 games of the Celtics with a win over the Mavericks on Saturday.
Games to Watch: 3/27  Orlando at Toronto,  Cleveland at San Antonio

Key Matchups
[img]http://a.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=/i/headshots/nba/players/full/3213.png&w=250&h=190) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/hassan_whiteside.png)
Al Horford vs Hassan Whiteside
Whiteside has played very well since coming to the Heat, especially on defense.  He is averaging 16.8 points, 14.2 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.  He pulled down 17 rebounds in each of the first two meetings between these two teams.   The Celtics will have a tough time scoring inside with Whiteside patrolling the paint.  Al will need to pull him away from the basket to open up the paint for the Celtics.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/isaiah_thomas.png) vs (http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/goran_dragic.png)
Isaiah Thomas vs Goran Dragic
Former teammates match up against each other.  Dragic is averaging 20.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists.  They certainly know each other and their tendencies and so this should be a good matchup.  Dragic scored 27 with 17 assists in the first meeting and 31 points with 7 assists in the second meeting and the Celtics will need to try to keep him from having another big game.

Honorable Mention
Marcus Smart vs Tyler and James Johnnson
The two Johnsons are the Heat's 6th men.  Tyler Johnson is averaging 13.7 points, which is the second most for any player without a start this season.  James Johnson is averaging 12.3 points, which is the third most in the league for any player without a start.  The Celtics, especially Marcus,. will need to defend these players to keep them from having a big game.  James Johnson had 22 points in the third meeting between these two teams.

Keys to the Game
Defense

Defense wins games. The Heat have a defensive rating of 104.0 while the Celtics have a defensive rating of 105.3.  The Celtics should be capable of much better defense, given the very good individual defenders they have on the team.   They must put it together to play tough team defense.   The team that is able to lock down on defense will more than likely get the win.

Rebound

The Heat are averaging 43.8 rebounds per game while the Celtics are averaging 42.0 rebounds per game.  Crashing the boards will give the Celtics extra possessions as well as keeping the Heat from getting fast breaks and second chance points. However, Hassan Whiteside has been cleaning up on the glass for the Heat and the Celtics will need to work hard to win the rebounding battle.  The Celtics are 22-2 when they grab more rebounds than their opponents.

Be Aggressive
The Celtics have to be aggressive in going to the basket and not settle for jumpers, especially if the jumpers aren't falling. They have to dive for loose balls and be aggressive in crashing the boards.  They can't afford to slack off or to allow the Heat to play harder than them. They have to be the team that wants it more.  Both of these teams have won by playing hard and so the Celtics have to put out extra effort to play harder.

Play Hard and Focus for 48 Minutes
The starters need to come out and play aggressively from the beginning and the second unit needs to come in and pick up where they leave off. They have to attack the basket and be aggressive on defense for the whole 48 minutes. No letting up.  The Heat are giving up the 3nd fewest points in the 4th quarter (24.6) and allowing teams to shoot just 42% in the final period (also 2nd lowest).  The Celtics must stay focused through all 4 quarters and not let up, especially if they have a lead.

X-Factors
Home game
- The Celtics are playing in the 4th of 6 straight home games.    The Celtics  have been playing well at home with a record of 26-9.  They need to continue to draw energy from the home crowd and make it difficult for other teams to win at the Garden.

Don't Play to their Record
- The Celtics should not play to the Heat's sub .500 record.  They started out 11-30 but since then, have been 25-7 and are one of the hottest teams in the league.   If the Celtics underestimate them, they will end up with a loss.

Officiating - As always officiating is an x-factor.  Every crew has their own way of calling a game and the Celtics have to adjust to the way it is being called.  They may call every little touch foul or let them play and however they call it, it is crucial that the Celtics adapt to it.

TPs all around to CeltcsFL (great game thread), saltlover (elite status), phantom (recent example of self-made success), apc (Lol), and Denis (we've been thru this before - skip class!)

Crazy as it sounds, this may be the game we tie for 1st in the East. Sites like nyloncalcus and fivethirtyeight projected us to be 2nd in the East with 50+ wins, and while it seemed to be a reach I did buy-in.  Though I'm not sure many of us here thought we would be in this situation in the last week of March.  Pretty crazy.

He says he will play .   Slight ankle sprain and stitches between two fingers.   The hand issue might bother him more than the ankle it sounds.

I think he will play too.  What ever you think about him , he is not a sissy.

Yeah, he got his hand caught on the rim the other day going up for a rebound and got 13 stitches.  It was pretty nasty.

If we win tonight, aren't we still in 2nd? Does't Cleveland have to lose tomorrow in SA in order for us to go up the .5?

Can someone clear this up?

If Boston wins today they will have a .649 win percentage.  Cleveland currently has a .653 winning percentage.  Boston will have played 2 more games than Cleveland after today.

But if Boston wins today, and Cleveland loses tomorrow, yes, Boston would be .5 games ahead. Cleveland would have a game in hand, and could thus tie with a win.  The Cavs currently have the advantage over Boston if there was a tie, but Boston has one more game against Cleveland.

Bottom line is, we're in this.  There is a real possibility the Celtics get the top seed.

yeah, we'd still be 2nd, percentage points behind the Cavs. At this point, losses are more important to looks at that wins, and they have one less than us at this point

This game is huge! The Cs need to beat the Heat so that the Bulls continue close to Miami for the 8th place. The Bulls will face the Nets twice by the end of the season and there is an incredible chance we will need them to beat Brooklyn or the Lakers (or the Suns) will have the worst record in the league

Not from the bench he won't.

I can't believe this team is still having intensity issues/not showing up to play for certain games this late in the season before the playoffs. Clearly got punched in the mouth early by this Heat team, who came ready to play.

They remind me so much of Boston in 2014. I wish we'd still play with that same type of ferocity and passion that they play with.

Careless turnovers and some lineup mismatches got them down.  The starting 5 should keep them in the game if now win it.

They're the 2014 Boston Celtics to me. They play hard and make you beat them, but they don't have the talent to really challenge us in a series. We'd beat them in 5 at the worst.

Fixed that for you.  ;)

Seriously, though, I do think people are overrating them due to their hot streak, similar to the 2015 Hawks. There's a reason we've swept them so far the last two years.

EDIT: Now that being said, there's still three teams or so (Indy, Detroit, Chicago) that I'd rather see in the first round than Miami. They'll make things interesting due to how hard they play and their defense, but I just don't see them having the talent to really overtake us in a series.

Yes, injuries.  We've lucked out that Miami has been without one of Wade/Dragic or Dragic/Waiters for most of those games.

I expect we'd beat them, no reason not to.  But it'll be much closer than you're giving them credit for, if they are healthy.  I just think you're wrong here.

He's a pitbull.

When he's in, we're going to have to go small with one of Jae, Brown, or Smart guarding him. He plays more like a wing than a big with a wing's quickness, so our bigs just can't cover him. This will be an important rotation decision if we end up playing them in the first round.

Nice quarter. Jaylen is not losing the handle at anywhere near the frequency he was earlier on the year.  I like the buzzer-beater but am curious why he opted to not go for the throw-down on the previous trip - looked like he had the space.

Seriously, though, Brown and Crowder are redundant defensively. Even when AB and Smart's offense is off, they still provide elite perimeter D. Got to have that against Dragic and Johnson.

Sure, if you want Dragic and Johnson to continue their onslaught offensively. You have to have one if not both of AB and Smart out there to check their guards. IT is terrible defensively, and they're too quick for Brown. And though he's improved defensively, AB and Smart are still much better on that end.

Al with the loud block for the finishing touch! Great win! Tied in the standings for first, baby!!

Not to rain on the parade, but Boston is still behind Cleveland by winning percentage.  If the season ended today, we'd be #2.

Which would have seemed less likely at the beginning of the year: Brooklyn has the worst record and we get the #1 lottery slot, or we end up with the #1 seed in the conference?

Us getting the #1 seed, but only slightly. It seemed like pretty much everyone thought Brooklyn was the worst team in the league.

I thought we'd challenge Cleveland for the first seed up until the end, but I really didn't see us actually getting it, which I think is more likely than not at this point.

I'd have voted that us having the #1 seed would be less likely.  I fully expected CLE and TOR to be ahead of us.  Glad I'm wrong on TOR, but CLE remains to be seen.

I was 99% sure BKN would be a bottom 3 team, and could easily be in contention for the worst team.  They didn't have a good offseason at all.

Very good win against a hot team.  Overcame a sluggish first half to pull this one out.

Keep winning.  If we do, we'll like where we are when the regular season ends.

Refs kept gift-wrapping points to Jones--and Mungo Jerry went off on us...BUT, C's manned up.

Yeah, sure, technically, since they've played two fewer games than us, but we're still tied with them in the standings in games back. Once they catch up to us in the amount of games they've played later in the year, I'm pretty confident that we'll be up on them by at least a game.

i really liked how the defense tightened up towards the end. the problem, remains, getting reliable scoring off the bench.

Oh this is easy for me.

I thought there was basically 0 chance we get the 1 seed.

I didnt expect Brooklyn to have the worst record, but it seemed very possible for them to have it. They were clearly the least talented team in the league.

I like how the C's are winning the games they should win. Hard fought win against a Miami team that will not quit.

Wouldn't it be something if we're seated number one in the east.

Real nice win!

Miami is a team I do not want to see the Celtics play unless it is for the ECF.

Not for long most likely as the Spurs are waiting for the Cavs in San Antonio tomorrow!!!  SA is favored by 4.5 and one has them favored by 5:-))))

Just wait about 25.5 more hours and we might have #1 for ourselves for the moment baby!!!

Go C's!!!!!!!!

Look at Miami's remaining schedule.  I have them winning 5 and finishing 40-42.  Then look at the Bulls schedule.  It literally about could NOT be any easier!!  I have them winning 7 and finishing 41-41 and edging Miami out.

Time will tell.

Sure glad that the Bulls traded away Gibson and McDermott!!!!
