C's v. Clips today, and oh yeah, another game a little later....
Curious about Cblog thoughts about Pats v. Falcons as Superbowl Sunday begins.
-
I'm getting pretty fired up finally! I don't care how many times they've been there now, it's always special. Who knows if they ever get back with Brady> I'm feeling kind of sentimental about it. I really think Brady and the Pats might have a game for the ages today. They are a poised group.
Pats win 37-20.

Grew up a Celtics fan in Atlanta, so you know I'm Rising Up today!

Is that a Falcons thing?
I've been trying to not pay too much attention to the two weeks of SB hype.
-
Honestly with all the Trump links to the Patriots, i dont even care anymore.
Brady is a great QB, but i cant get behind him or the Trump's NFL Team.
I truly dont care this year.

45-42 Falcons

Wow... I am very much not a Trump-Pence fan, but I truly could not care less who Brady or Belichick support for president.
Psyched for the game - Go Pats!!

I'm assuming you don't care in most years. I'm also assuming you're not a Patriots fan.
When did people start caring about football players' political beliefs? Think back to high school. Remember that football player named Biff who used to shove nerds in lockers? If you saw him today, would you talk to him about politics for an hour?
I wouldn't either.
Pats 34-Falcons 24

Blount needs to pound it up the middle, he keeps trying to get outside on a fast defense....
-
Well this is disappointing.
Offensive game plan is crap so far. Can't create space to run, too many throws to the outside.
Defense is being asked to do way too much.
-
Wow, the Patriots look like they are going to get blown out. I'm sure most of America is loving this.
-
Eep
This is why I love the nba finals
Lose game 1? No problem
-
The defense can't stay on the field so long. The offense needs to get some sustained drives going.
This defense is not good enough to win the game on its own.
If the Pats offense is going to struggle this badly against a truly mediocre, if talented, defense, then it will be a long, long day for the Pats.

I know, right? If you have a bad day at the start of the series for whatever reason, it's not the end of the world.
This is Game 7. So far, the Pats look unprepared for the moment.

which is surprising as hell to me
-
Horrible call on blocked extra point, he was lined up against the guard...
-
Bench Blount. He can't do anything against this defense.
-
Hey, you know what this offense is missing?
Rob Gronkowski.
They deeply miss having a quality pass catching tight end. None of their receivers is creating mismatches.
-
Game over! It may be time for Brady to retire after this.
-
Alright, good season.
Turns out missing your best offensive weapon and facing crappy QBs all season makes a difference!
Making the Super Bowl was cool. Woulda been nice if they showed up.

Turn out the Lights ...
The party's over ......

I'm in shock.

Ready for the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history?
-
I was optimistic heading into this game, but I didn't want to get my hopes up.
At the very least, I hoped we'd get to see a good game.
I did not expect the Pats to get blown out.
Very disappointing.
Second year in a row that the Super Bowl leaves me feeling angry with myself for caring.
-
Ready for the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history?
I wish I were as optimistic as you.
-
Man, Brady had Edelman wide open and totally blew it!
-
It's one of those days you feel silly for caring about sports.
-
Tom Brady seems like he's been Space Jammed. People should start scanned local football fields for games involving animated players and Cam Newton.
-
Please Celtics trade for a big name, please...
-

i probably wouldn't be this optimistic if it were the celtics in game 7 laying an egg
After game 7 2010 I couldn't talk to my girlfriend for a week
..
She was really worried, ha
-
3 possession game. Imperative to get a quick TD to cut it to 11 if they are going to have any chance..
-
Tom has been off. ATL pressure not helping. Give them credit.

Atlanta players have been great so far, very energetic. Also, Brady's age looks like it's finally catching up with him.

Yeah, you can't win many games when multiple people decide to lay an egg at the same time.

ya
I went numb when I saw LA get all those free throws
Both teams took it to the rack. One team got the calls
Edit: Ray was ice cold at the time, right? That was so sad. And KG with one leg. Perkins hurt...
Good lord, we were lucky to be as close as we were, come to think of it..

sorry, truly. I try not to think of that one
But it's part of who we are, man!
We'll get them back! We're already on the right path. We're climbing the mountain again. LA is just starting the ascent

Yeah, and freakin Artest caught fire from 3 at just the worst time! Kobe sucked all game and still grabbed that ring.

I must be one of the few people who hates these stupid Super Bowl halftime shows.
And I'd prefer not to conjure up bad memories of 2010 game 7. I didn't sleep well for over a month after that game. Still bothers me to this day.

I just rewatch U2's performance every year at halftime. Nothing will ever touch that for me.

All the pats need to win this game is IT in the 4th.

Yep! Best halftime show ever! I hope one day someone surpasses it, but nothing has come close yet.

What they need is miracle. Atlanta... they are just too good tonight
-
Amazing half time show
I'm speechless
It will take time for me to process this awesome music display .
-
When was the last time the Pats looked like a toilet bowl full of Taco Bell in the 1st half and then blew out the other team in the second half?
-
Tom Brady seems like he's been Space Jammed. People should start scanned local football fields for games involving animated players and Cam Newton.
Cam Newton's a good comp. This feels like last year's Super Bowl. One of these teams left something at home.
-
Pats looking much better in the second half. But maybe it is too late?
-
All of the Pats haters are getting the game of their dreams, basically.
-
Haven't been hurt like this watching a patriots game since the chiefs "blowout" game
-
Well, I'm out. I thought this team was special, man. I guess the schedule really was that weak.
-
We've all had enough good times for a lifetime. Just getting to the Super Bowl again after the last one is pretty nice.
I'm happy for the Atlanta fans. It'd be cool if Atlanta became a bigger sports city.
Question - Can the Pats really get better than they were this year? Are they going to get closer to another SB with this team?
No matter what, they should ride Brady until he breaks down in a year or three.
-
The drop by Edelman may be the death blow. Pats need to be perfect from here on.
Pats have certainly missed opportunities, but are losing to a superior team right now.
-
Blount's fumble did them in.
Whole different game, but for that.
-
Falcons match up well. Their team speed really confounds Pats.
-
Why the hell did they start the game clock again after the delay of game penalty? You're basically rewarding the team by letting them run more time off the clock
-
Cmon need a quick TD and 2 pt conversion
-
Falcons match up well. Their team speed really confounds Pats.
That was my main concern. I heard all week that they were young and inexperienced but fast and athletic.
I thought the Pats would take advantage of the Falcons' lack of size upfront, but instead the Falcons have been too fast and athletic for the Pats. The Pats are a finesse team and the Falcons have kept them off their timing all game.

How do you kick a field goal in that situation?

Huge sack!

Wow. Pats get the ball with a chance to tie.

KG's words come to mind now: anything is possible!!!!!
-
The Pats' David Tyree moment?
-
That's one of the most bizarre catches I can remember, especially given the gravity of the situation.
It'd be a huge shame if the Pats ended up scoring a TD here but failing on a 2 point conversion. That missed extra point from Gostkowski is inexcusable.
-
The Pats' David Tyree moment?
I think it compares better to the Kearse catch 2 years ago

Holy Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.

Well.

Not really a football fan, but this has to be considered one of the greatest comebacks of all time sports history doesn't it?

Pats do specialize in "close" superbowls...lord.

19-0 last quarter. Impressive

Isaiah is probably at the game somewhere

Still questioning that strategy?

-

Without question, assuming that the Pats win. Pats looked completely outclassed in the 1st half.
To add, no team has come back from a 14 point or greater deficit to win the Super Bowl.
-

I guess you have to add the 2016 Cavs to that list, too. They did set history coming back from down 3-1 games.

BEST SUPER BOWL EVER!
-
I'm dead.
-
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREATEST SUPERBOWL WIN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
What an unbelievable win for the Pats. I'm not a Pats fan but having lived in Boston for 2 years, I'm well aware of how great Boston and New England fans are.
But what a crushing defeat for Atlanta. This loss will haunt Falcons fans for a long time.
-
looked like once Atlanta's front four lost steam they became easy pickings for Brady.
-
Ready for the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history?
just gonna leave this here ;)
-
Epic come back. The goat's legend grows.
-
I almost switched over to a movie near the end of the third quarter, but decided give the Pats a chance until either the Falcons scored or the Pats didn't
Holy crap and I glad I kept watching. One of the best games I've ever seen
-
Unreal
-
My congratulations to all Pats fans . This was the best Super Bowl ever.....and I've seen most.
wow !
Way to go Pats.
-
Eerily similar to The Boston Celtics' Game 4 comeback in 2008 Finals.
Just WOW.
Tom Brady is arguably the best ever. He and Joe Montana can debate this for years to come if they wish.
Hopefully this cloud hangs over the Hawks as well - they've been winning a lot of games lately, chasing BOS.
-
Unbelievable. Can't believe it was the Pats who had the opening jitters...I mean the usually do start disappointingly slow in super bowls, but that was ridiculous in the first half. Atlanta looked like they were everywhere. They looked like 90% of Seattle on Defense and like the '01 Rams on offense.
Then Atlanta. Good on the Pats obviously, but Atlanta missed some chances. It's tough; many people (me included) often criticize coaches once they get to the 30 for doing 3 runs and a FG, but that sequence of Sack and Hold...3 points there would have made the difference, had they just done 3 runs and try to kick.
Disappointed in Gostkowski, but that PAT doesn't really come back to haunt them; they wouldn't have gone for 2 the second time, just would have kicked it to tie.
Unreal. Can't believe it happened like that. Walk off TD.
Pats: technically 00:00 of game time leading, but they win.
-
You know IT was there ..
Hope he and Smart don't party too much ....
LOL
-
The Pats' David Tyree moment?
I can't believe the perfect camera angle, showing how he grabbed it an inch from the ground on the re-bobble.
-
I hope there is mad shade in the acceptance speeches
-
I do wonder if Dion Lewis blew his ACL there at end of regulation.
-
loving the boos for Goodell. jerk. not a Pats fan but he's a genuine jerk
-
Yes, Bobby, yes!
-
Kraft with some shade at Goodell during his victory speech. Nice!
-
I do wonder if Dion Lewis blew his ACL there at end of regulation.
Exactly what I was thinking .....I mumbled it out loud " ACL" as I watched....
Hopefully not
-
Gotta love the fans down there. They did the right thing
-
Anybody check the air in the ball in overtime .... ;D
-
Goodell looked deflated out there giving that speech

ab-so-LUTELY

That fourth quarter plus overtime, gotta be the most amazing sports thing I've seen.

They checked one ball and it was actually overinflated. The prevailing theory is that the Falcons blew it

I gained even more respect for Tom when he chose to help us recruit Durant. I hope he doesn't retire after this because we'll probably need him again soon.
-
Brady should retire
He's done it all
Flip off the nfl on the way out
-
Greatest of all time. Greatest comeback in NFL history.
-
Pats are the greatest. That was the greatest Super Bowl comeback. They have the best quarterback and coach ever. What a night!!

Let's go find the post and find exactly what I said and exactly what I did not say
-
Ridiculous comeback. Such a sweet win.
-
Un. Be. LIEVABLE.
At halftime I was convinced the game was over. The Falcons looked that good and the Patriots looked that bad. But I sat down to watch the second half, determined to be a good fan whatever the outcome. Safe to say I didn't see this one coming.
Biggest deficit overcome in a Super Bowl win—TWENTY-FIVE (25!). Unreal. Great second half by Brady and White, in particular. And great job by the D in the second half, allowing only 7 points.
And points to Brady for his classiness re: Goodell.
-
The Pats' David Tyree moment?
I can't believe the perfect camera angle, showing how he grabbed it an inch from the ground on the re-bobble.
That almost makes me forget the Tyree catch. ;D
And thanks to the Falcons player whose leg kept the ball from hitting the ground, enabling Edelman just enough time to make the NEW Greatest Catch in Super Bowl History.
-

This is what I posted Jan 17 2011at 10:39am......so...no. Your interpretation is fake news.
"Think about it.
The man is like 33 with a major injury behind him and he's clearly distracted by a supermodel wife and celebrity. And the Jets are in his head.
How many times do I have to watch him get outplayed by Mark Sanchez, because I don't think I can handle it in the playoffs again.
You got to start to be curious how much we can get for him.
I think if Belichek really believes that anyone is replaceable and considering this team won 11 games with Matt Cassell in his first year as a starer then you have to at least start thinking about this.
I'm not saying actually do it. Just try to figure out the market and test it out. Make it highly known you are highly distressed by this non-performance.
Also in an unrelated development almost every time I type "Sanchez" the computer wants me to type Sanchez"

As a Giants fan I have 2 things to say.
1. Congrats guys, that was incredible and Tom Brady is the greatest QB ever
2. You're lucky you didn't have to play us ;D

For as long as I live, no matter who are on those two teams, I never want to see the Pats play the Giants in a superbowl (mostly because I know the broadcast would play clips from the 2 super bowl losses)

ahem....player. Not QB. Player.
-
the year of blown leads :)
let's go Patriots!
-
I hear some of the coaching staffs that face Brady's Patriots next year are trying to buy kryptonite on Amazon.
And defensive backs that face Edelman are trying to buy buckets of holy water to take showers with.
-

I heard the Giants are trying really hard to make it to the playoffs next year. But you aren't allowed to buy tickets this far out.
-
Actual problem for Pats fans....you're watching the commentators and thinking "That guy's not as good as Pats players. That guy's not as good as Pats players. The average Patriot is way better than that guy. Why am I listening to this guy? He isn't anywhere as good as a Patriot." Then you finally get to Bruschi and you're ok.

Awesome game.
Literally everything went right for the Patriots.
Still I'm not a die hard of the Pats, but I only wanted Brady to win so he could put his name up as one of the best QB.

He put his name up as one of the best over 10 years ago with his 3rd ring. He put his name up as the best two years ago after winning his 4th, having made it to the big game more than Montana. Tonight he ensured there would be no Mt. Rushmore of top qbs. Its him, and then everyone else.

Now Vegas doesn't really want this math do they? Fireworks going off in my neighborhood.
I am actually in Vegas this weekend - couldn't have asked for a better celebration. About 20% Pats fans and the rest not nearly as happy.
In reality, I feel a little bad for Atl and their fans - they seem like a good group and were well on their way to a victory, but Tom and gang came through in the greatest of moments...time after time. I couldn't be happier.
Congrats Pats and F Goodell!
-
Amazing. Tom had "the aura" late.
And always remember...

I wish the Celtics can have a special edition Patriots themed uniform that they wear every year they win the Superbowl.
-
Most clutch performance I have ever seen.
If he isnt a GOAT I honeslty dont know who is.
-
Was yesterday the greatest day in Boston sports history? Greatest Superbowl comeback and perhaps the most significant regular season NBA game with Paul's last game back.
-
the Cs should have a Pats logo in their jersey's in their next home game...
it will be interesting if they are the ones to do it first since we will be sporting GE logo's next yr, might as well start it right...even for just one game to honor what the Pats have done
-
Was yesterday the greatest day in Boston sports history? Greatest Superbowl comeback and perhaps the most significant regular season NBA game with Paul's last game back.
I would have to vote the Red Sox WS win that broke the Bambino curse.

Ditto. And the Pats first SB win against the Rams probably second.

Hahahaha! Love it!
-
I know it was more or less a foregone conclusion that Brady was going to get the MVP, but I'm just going to leave this here: We're not winning the game without James White making a million plays down the stretch.
Great game.
-
Still hasn't sunk it. In a daze.
The Pats margin for error that 4th quarter was so ridiculously thin. Absolutely everything had to fall right; no more ATL points, get a FG, score 2 TDs and convert two 2 pt conversions. Absolutely everything had to fall right, and it actually happened. Unbelievable.
You will never see another QB like Brady and you'll probably never see another Super Bowl like that. Unreal.

Unreal.
Also had to have time for all of this; the fact they forced a fumble deep into ATL territory and were able to score quick helped.

Oh yeah, even if ATL punts there instead of turning the ball over, Pats lose 40+ yards of field position and may very well not have enough time left in the game. Huge turning point.

first down at Pats 23 yard line with 8 point lead...
Why was Atl dropping back to pass? There running back was getting huge chunks of yards. Kick a field goal there and they are up 11 points. Game over? Who knows?
Why were they passing at that point? Hubris or just scared about the Patriots mystique (they did not think an 11 point lead would be enough) Pats still in their head even when it seems they had the game won.
The Atl owner and his wife were ready to celebrate .... amazing they had moved to the sideline. Talk about not counting your falcons before they hatch.

Yeah, that was a key. Not running the ball with a 25 pt lead! That's on the coaches, and it just shows coaching inexperience in Super Bowls. The Patriots have a big advantage there--the same coaches have been there so often, they know how to play the situation. They also are costing me a fortune in Super Bowl T shirts, hoodies and footballs back to '03. I'm wearing the last SB hoodie this morning, and have the current one on order. :)

Was yesterday the greatest day in Boston sports history? Greatest Superbowl comeback and perhaps the most significant regular season NBA game with Paul's last game back.
I would have to vote the Red Sox WS win that broke the Bambino curse.
agreed

Yeah.
Kraft ought to send Rat Jr. - Kyle Shanahan - a ring. Worst series of play calling I've seen in a LONG time.
-
I bet somewhere out there today Durant is feeling some sadness for saying no to Tom Brady and the celtics and missing out on being a part of Boston sports.

Good. I hope his Warriors choke again in the playoffs too. >:(

They ran on 1st down for a loss and went for a pass on 2nd that turned out to be the disaster. It's on the QB IMO. You can't take a sack, but Ryan didn't feel the pressure.

Have to admit that defense STEPPED UP. It might be 28 points given up but the pick 6 and turnovers didn't help at all. (So really they allowed 21 to the best offense in football)
Second half they did not break except for that 1 early 3rd quarter TD drive.
WHAT. A. WIN.
Easily the second best comeback in BOS history behind the Red Sox 2004 comeback vs NYY.

Second this, especially after the Yankees banged away to a 3-0 lead. By Game 7, you could smell the fear.

...and perhaps thinking about how he might like to switch coasts this summer :)

The Warriors will max out Curry + Durant, but will probably lose Livingston and/or Iguodala, and then Klay will need a new contract in 2 years from now. How will they even make it work? Or will they have pretty much no bench with a bunch of Pachulia-West-exception signings (which won't work when playing teams like San Antonio and Cleveland lol).

I love articles that break down plays and show step by step what the teams are doing and why certain key plays happen. Here's an excellent one:
