Title: 2016-2017 UEFA Champions League
Post by: LatterDayCelticsfan on September 28, 2016, 12:28:32 PM
Heading the end of match day 2016 who wants to reflect on a Champions League with no Chelsea, Man United or Liverpool?

Doesn't really matter to me, but I believe we are seeing a rejiggering of the "natural order" of the EPL, so I expect a change in representation in the CL groups.  After viewing Spurs dismantle my club yesterday, I have to believe that they have the discipline and desire to make a splash in the CL this season.  Poch is one heck of a manager!

Pep's project at City not quite there yet.

No, but I did not expect it would be after 14 fixtures.  I thought that City, despite the early goal conceded (slip and fall by Fernandinho), played well in the first half, but Bravo the Clown had a brainf@rt and left us playing a man down for 40 minutes at the Camp Nou.  He has been relatively poor since joining and after such a difficult beginning, Pep may instruct Begiristain to go back for a suitable keeper in the January window.  Unfortunately, this ball-playing type of keeper is a very uncommon breed, and attempting to nick a good one in the winter window could prove to be nigh on impossible.

I know this much - there's an English bloke in Torino who is having a laugh!

Juvenile v. Real final.  Big powers reign in the end

Good catch, Koz.  It's not possible that "The Old Lady" could be a juvenile, correct?!

Kroos & Modric = the two best central midfielders in the world ??

I think so.

They have been absolutely phenomenal for Real Madrid. Give the team such a solid base to build their attacks around. Give Marcelo & Carvajal the freedom to get forward. Retain and use possession brilliantly. Modric's dribbling from CM is exceptional.

No sympathy for Juve, a detested rival.  I do feel a little bit bad for Buffon, though.

Ronaldo is in top form.  What a legendary player.

That 2nd half was a bummer. I wanted Juve to win.

Real Madrid deserved it though. Best team in Europe this season. That Kroos-Modric partnership in midfield is phenomenal. And praise for Ronaldo too. His movement without the ball and finishing are exemplary.

Juve a bit of a no-show in the 2nd half. Couldn't get into the game after the break.

Great performance by RM and congrats to them.  Still, Juventus are a great side, just not today against the world's best.

Congrats to Real, but Manchester United are coming for that treble next year, Mourinho is going to troll Europe and the Premier League again

MU is more likely to find cures for cancer, HIV and Ebola first.
