There's a bunch of stuff out there right now arguing whether or not the cinematic masterpiece "Die Hard" is considered a Christmas movie or not? It's gotten to the point where media outlets are doing polls on it now & its an annual argument this time of year on Mike & Mike.

Die Hard II must fall into the same category, whatever it is.
-
Definitely.
-
Without a doubt. I watch it every Christmas.
-
Of course it is. I have it lined up already, ready to be played for the family to see.
-
isn't the setting during a Christmas party?
-
No. A Christmas movie must be virtually unwatchable any other time of the year like A Christmas Carol or must take on added importance at that time of year, such as It's a Wonderful Life. Die Hard is awesome all the time always. Not a Christmas movie

Hey, some people think Love, Actually is a classic Christmas movie. So you can watch any movie you want and call it a Christmas movie as far as I'm concerned.
-
It's about as much of a Christmas movie as Batman Returns and Iron Man 3 is.
-
so for this crowd there exists so such thing as a movie that represents meanings or symbols that are immutably attached to a certain event?
are predator and alien easter movies? sure, why not?
can santa saves christmas and citizen kane be standards for halloween? if i feel like it, yes!

I never thought about is such, but it does have a whole lot of Christmassy themes.
Naughty vs nice
Redemption
Families coming together
Faith restored
The birth of a beautiful friendship
Peace on earth (after a small disagreement)
Barefooted glass walking

It's as Christmasy a movie as you can get for a film that was released in July.
-
Yes. I dont even know how its a debate.
-
It's less of a Christmas movie than Trading Places, which is reeeeeeeeeally close to being one.
-
For some reason I never thought of it this way, but now that I know it's a thing, I agree.
-
no, it isn't a xmas movie. its an action movie that takes place around xmas
-
It's a Christmas classic. We watch it every year. It's my girlfriend's favorite Christmas movie.

But so is Home Alone. You'll enjoy that movie even on a warm Summer afternoon.
