Title: RIP Yogi Berra
Post by: Redz on September 23, 2015, 11:30:50 AM
Not a Yankees fan by any stretch, but this guy was a true sports legend and by all accounts a heck of a nice guy.

What's your favorite Yogi Berra quote?

This one might not be my favorite, but I definitely hold the sentiment true to my heart:

"Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

I think my favorite is:  "if you don't know where you're going, you might end up someplace else" ( or something like that).

I remember seeing him play at the end of his career.  What an amazing presence.  A good long life.

I grew up on a dirt road and can attest to the accuracy of "If you come to a fork in the road take it"

I practically live by "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded"

I also don't really like saying it out loud but "It ain't over till it's over"  I think will be said for thousands of years, if not longer.

I think Bill Belichik with his "It is what it is" and "There's a lot of different ways it could have happened, but it happened the way it did" and stuff like that is the only sports guy that can hold a candle to Yogi.

And ever the classic, "baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical."

Sadly fitting: "Always go to other people's funerals, otherwise they won't come to yours."

RIP Yogi, I didn't approve of your stance on picnic basket theft, but I respected your candor on it.

His mastery of the irony and humor the English language is excellent.

You can observe a lot just by watching.

If you can't imitate him don't copy him.

Mickey Mantle and Yogi went into the Pizza Parlour and Mickey was at the counter ordering. He hollers back to Yogi " Hey Yogi, they want to know if we want this pizza cut into 8 slices or 16?' ... Yogi hollers back "better make it 8 I dont think we can eat 16".

I dont know if that really happened but it's funny and sounds like what I've heard about Yogi.
