Game Notes
The Celtics are hoping for the Luck of the Irish as they visit the Dallas Mavericks on St Patrick's Day.  They are still looking for their first win of the season vs Western teams on the road.  Both teams are playing in the second of back to back games as well as traveling overnight.

The Celtics dropped a one point game to the Pelicans in overtime while the Mavericks are coming off of a 23 point win over the Thunder.  The Mavs have won two in a row and are 6-4 in their last 10 games.  The Celtics have lost their last 4 games and are 3-7 in their last 10 games.  The Mavs are 21-10 at home while the Celtics are 8-24 on the road, and winless against Western Conference foes on the road.

The Mavericks are the 7th seed in the West, 1 game behind the 6th spot and 1/2 game ahead of the 8th spot.  They are also just 1.5 games ahead of the Suns, who are 9th in the West and fighting hard to make the playoffs.   The Celtics are still 4th from the bottom of the East and tied with Utah, who also lost on Sunday, for the 4th worst record overall.  They move 1/2 game ahead of the Lakers, who were idle on Sunday.

Rondo will more than likely be taking the night off after playing the night before and Brad Stevens has said that he likely will sit out the second of back to back games for the rest of the season.   After the loss to the Pelicans, Stevens said that if  Avery Bradley is feeling good after playing the night before,  he probably will start this game.

Key Matchups
(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Bass_Brandon_BOS.jpg)vs(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Nowitzki_Dirk_dal_1314.jpg)
Brandon Bass vs Dirk Nowitski
It doesn't get any easier for Brandon Bass, who had to guard Anthony Davis on Sunday only to turn around and have to guard Dirk Nowitski in this game.  Dirk is getting older, but he doesn't seem to have lost much as he is averaging 21.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. He has a size advantage over Brandon Bass and will be a tough matchup for him. He scored 20 on the Celtics when these two teams met in February.

(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Bradley_Avery_BOS.jpg)vs(http://basketball.realgm.com/images/nba/4.2/profiles/photos/2006/Ellis_Monta_dal_1314.jpg)
Avery Bradley vs Monta Ellis
Bradley seemed to be getting back to his old self in Sunday's game and Brad Stevens plans to reinsert him into the starting lineup if he is still feeling good for this one.  Ellis is averaging 18.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.8 steals this season and is capable of putting up points in bunches if left open.  Bradley will need to play tough defense in this one.

Keys to the Game
Rebound - Rebounding is so crucial to getting a win. When the Celtics put out the effort to grab rebounds, more often than not, that effort extends to other areas of their game.  Rebounding is all in who wants it more and the Celtics have to be the team that wants it more. Hopefully they can do a better job of keeping the Mavs off the boards than they were able to with Anthony Davis.

Defense - Defense is always crucial to getting a win. Defense wins games is not just a cliche, it is the truth. The Celtics must play tough team defense especially against high scoring teams like the Mavs who average over 104 points per game.

Be Aggressive
- The Celtics have to be aggressive in going to the basket and not settling for jumpers. They have to be aggressive on defense and in diving for loose balls. They have to be the team to set the pace.  They have to be the team that plays harder and goes after every rebound and loose ball.

Focus - The Celtics have to keep their focus for all 48 minutes. They can't afford a lapse like they have in many games where they turn the ball over and start missing their shots.  It's easy to lose focus on the road but they can't afford to let up against veteran teams like the Mavs.

X-Factors
Fatigue and Pride

Both teams are playing in back to back games and both teams had to travel overnight.  Will fatigue be a factor for either team?
The Celtics have said that they are playing for pride.  They played hard and gave themselves a chance to beat the Pelicans but it didn't go their way.  Will that loss set them back or make them more eager for a win on this trip?

Thanks for the thread. Once again I am honored to be the first poster. :) tp once more for another great thread. I really appreciate all your fabulous work.

The celtics should get slammed by the mavs. They have more talent and the celtics are on a back to back on the road. Sigh..... Nonetheless, goooooooo celtics!!

we're going to need 'the luck of the irish' tonight.  should be interesting to see how the team fares after that OT loss
I think the over/under on number of shots by AB is around 18 for tonight without Rondo to pass to someone else.

My BOLD PREDICTIONS tonight. Avery Bradley Successfully pulls of not one, but to on look passes, Jeff Green hits 10 rebounds and 5 steals, Kris Humphries outscores Dirk Nowitsky

We don't deserve to win another game this year. We lost to the lowly pelicans two years in a row in Nola.

Whatever the line is on tonight's game, the Mavs will cover it.  This team's not good enough to play as well as they did last night, and then come back 24 hours later and compete with a good team on their home floor.

yup. two years in a row. I'm sick of it and disgusted. We are the laughing stock almost everytime we play these clowns. I honestly cannot remember beating them in the last 2 years at Bsoton or here. It is a travesty. A disgrace.

That break makes me appreciate a guy like Gordon Hayward more. There is something to be said for being able to handle and pass at at least an average level. Gordon is above.... Green and Bradley are quite below.

I miss pierce, and even crawford to a small degree. A team needs at least 2 creators on the perimeter. ....unless you have Shaq in his prime.

This is his fourth year as a pro. At some point a person cant talk about his potential anymore. His ball handling, shot creation for himself and others is way below average for a guard.

I really dont want Ainge to resign him at anything north of 8 million over 2 years, or 10 over 3.

What does Pressy and Johnson have to do to get more playing time. Both are better than Bradley. If Bradley had not played tonight Cs could have the lead.

Johnson is a better shooter than AB , better finisher,  smarter, and way better passer .

I say.....forget AB and sigh Johnson , save money and get a better player to boot.

I really like watching Johnson play. His game is so simple, yet effective. Pressey has grown on me. His shooting has been awful this season. But he is a real point guard. Those two players are nice low cost options to keep around while we rebuild.

Bradley getting lots of playing time, combined with putting a super hot Humphries on the bench certainly helps the tank.  :-\

Humphries has looked awesome lately.

Bradley leads the team in FG attempts this half. ....sigh.

At least Sully has been awesome tonight.

Johnson is great insurance as he is signed for something like 4 years at near minimum dollars. Each year is a team option. ainge is working some quiet magic this season.

What does Pressy and Johnson have to do to get more playing time. Both are better than Bradley. If Bradley had not played tonight Cs could have the lead.

You have to be kidding me.  Neither one of those guys is close to as good as AB.

7 CB members and 51 guests are following this game thread. I think the fans have spoken, and they are ready for the season to be over.

The draft feels so far away.

Well, I'm almost always around, though I usually lurk since there's not much worth discussing.

I think a big part of the dropoff is all our resident Chicken Littles don't know what to do since this year we want the sky to fall a bit  ;D

Nice move by KO around Uncle Dirk, followed by drawing the charge.

Y'know the team's record has been lousy but we really haven't been blown out much at all.

Sullinger and Olynyk frontcourt duo is looking possible

They just have such high iq's for young players.  If we get a really athletic 3 who can rebound and block shots , the lineup can work.

I think we have been better ANY AND EVERY time Bass is not out there and it's been that way for a while now.

Good games in a row! Loved closing my eyes hoping for a win in the last seconds, very entertaining!

Also, even though AB can't hit air (and wont stop shooting), he has been defending very well... aside from that one corner 3 by Ellis. Mavs guards were going at Bayless every time they could... good thing he finally started to shoot because he was getting on my nerves until midway in the 3rd. Press played well. Kelly was so good! Hump was good. Everyone who played was good except for Green and Bass and they were tragic!

Yea, I enjoyed this one even more b/c of who we had out there and b.c Green didn't show up! We held on after an OT last night and traveling, no RR, no Green, Bass was terrible (had minutes cut, thankfully), Mavs home floor, and well... look at the team lol! Good game!
