Game Notes
The Celtics host the Pistons for the third of 4 meetings this season.  The Pistons won the first two meetings, 87-97 in Detroit, and 107-106 in Boston. They will meet one more time on April 5.

The Pistons are mostly the same team that played then while the Celtics have changed considerably since that time. This will be Rondo's first time facing the Pistons and the first game for Jerryd Bayless as a Celtic against them as well.

Detroit has won 6 out of the last 8 meetings between these two teams.  The Pistons are 10-18 on the road while the Celtics are 13-19 at home.  The Pistons are 3-7 in their last 10 and have lost their last 2.  The Celtics are 2-8 in their last 10 games and are coming off a big win over the Nets.

The Pistsons are 9th in the East, just 3 games behind the Hawks, who are in the final playoff spot. With their last win, the Celtics moved from the 4th worst record to the 6th worst record.  The standings at the bottom of the league are very tight and one win makes a big difference.

Key Matchups

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/rajon_rondo.png)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/brandon_jennings.png)
Rajon Rondo vs Brandon Jennings
Jennings is playing very well, averaging 16.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game.  Rondo has been playing better with each game and so this should be a fun matchup to watch.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/kris_humphries.png)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/andre_drummond.png)
Kris Humphries vs Andre Drummond
Drummond is a beast and will be a challenge for the Celtics to contain.  He is 1st in offensive rebounds, 3rd in the league in total rebounds, and 2nd in the league in double doubles.  He is averaging 13.1 points and 12.9 rebounds.

Honorable Mention
Jeff Green vs Josh Smith
Smith is averaging 16.4 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists and will be a challenge for Green on the defensive end.  It would be nice if  Green could have one of his big games to make Smith have to work on that end as well.

Keys to the Game
Run, Run, Run - The Celtics have proved that when they run and move the ball up the court quickly, good things happen. They can't lapse into walking the ball up, playing half court and depending on iso's for scoring. When they over dribble and slow the game down, they struggle all the way around.

Be Aggressive - The Celtics need to be aggressive in going for loose balls, rebounding and defending. They also have to be aggressive in going to the basket and not settle for jumpers. Good things happen when they get inside. They have to be hungry and play like the team that wants it more.

Rebound - Rebounding takes effort and desire. The Celtics will need both in order to beat the big front line of the Pistons to the rebounds. The Pistons are 1st in the league in offensive rebounds with 14.5 per game and so the Celtics will have to work extra hard to beat them to the boards.

Defense- The Celtics need to play tough team defense, especially in the paint.  The Pistons are 1st in the league in points in the paint with an impressive 52.8 points per game.  The Celtics will have to work extra hard to keep them out of the paint and take them out of their game.

Limit Turnovers -  The Celtics turned the ball over 28 times against the Nets and in spite of that somehow still won the game.  They won't win many games with that many turnovers, however.  They need to take better care of the ball as the Pistons will turn them into points.

X-Factors
Pride and Effort
The Celtics have acknowledged that they are playing for pride but will that be enough to get them a second win in a row?  Will they put out the effort it will take to beat a Pistons team that is playing hard to try to make the playoffs?

1. Can we sign Humphries to a 10-year extension?
2. Does Rondo know this game is on NBATV?

That dunk on the break was a sneaky-good move by Humphries.

The pass actually hit him a step too soon.  Many bigs will either travel or shoot (and miss) an awkward floater because they can't get all the way to the rim without travelling.  Hump had the presence of mind to take that single dribble to get himself to the rim.

Just a little thing that produced a very good result.

KO didn't even box Singler out.  No reason he should have picked up a foul there.  Someone's seriously gotta teach this kid some toughness.

Pistons are trolling us at this point. 5th shooting foul in a row.

I guess they want to keep their pick this year (Top 8 protected). We need Joel Anthony in ASAP, this is getting ugly

Fakers have the toughest schedule of all bad teams. They are a lock for TOP4 pick. In April we play Philly twice, Cleveland, Detroit and Atlanta 0_0. We could easily end up 7th.

Imagine going through all these losses this season and end up getting A. Gordon out of it  :'(

My guess is that we either make a top 3-ish pick this year or we trade the pick.  Given our needs, I can't see us taking a guy like Aaron Gordon or Marcus Smart - if that's really who is on the slate when we're up, then I think we make a deal.

Jeff Green made a few nice cuts to the basket, got some easy baskets and now is feeling it.

Every game Jeff Green! Basketball, with your skill set, should be a simple game.

I remember before the season started some wondered how Rondo would get his assists with KG and PP gone...

Those same people thought KO was a bust.

Not me. I love those guys. Go Celtics!

I'm really loving KO's 2nd half of the season..really seeing his improvements.

Keep it up KO and steal the ROY award.

Pacers looks like Celtics after the Perk trade, chemistry is bigger than people realize. Although I would do that trade EVERY TIME, I may have done it earlier or after the season. Pacers better figure it out.

eh we're still one of the worst records in bball... it could change but if we're winning with good play like this so be it. Still hoping the ping pong balls go our way however, but man does Klynyk look like a different player or what?

A 7 ft who can play like this is a great thing to see... his stats these last five or so games have been excellent. A pf/c with pg skills and shooting ability, DA was definitely on to something

I've been saying for the past couple weeks that we're on the verge of a win streak.

Rondo has been exceptional.

Wallace injury cleared up some roster logjams.

Oly and Sully are starter-minutes away from blowing up.

Green and Rondo are finally played well together.

Lots of bad teams left on the schedule.

Plenty other teams will be resting up for the playoffs.

2 wins moved us from #4 pick to #7.  Couple more we'll be at #10.  Few more and we're a playoff team.

I think the tank battle is already lost.  Our team is going to stumble into a mediocre draft pick.  Good news is that Ainge knows what he's doing and we'll have plenty of opportunity to build around Rondo and improve this team this summer.

Slamtheking, trading Rondo only made sense in that it would prevent what we're about to see... picking 9-15 in the draft.   It would have net us some young assets, improved our pick chances and locked up a full-scale rebuild.  At this point, I don't see the point in trading for Rondo.  He'll be here long-term...  at least until 2015 when he flees our crap team for the Knicks.

have some faith LB.

C's will end up 5th-7th pick.  not impossible to win the lottery or to get top 3.  happens quite a bit regardless of the stats/percentages.

if we're out of the top 3, I'd be stunned if Danny doesn't move the pick for a good young player and another pick later in the draft.

2015 we'll probably still stink and get another lotto pick.    Danny will either use it on a stud player or move it for another good young player.  Rondo resigns for the best money plus he sees the improving direction of the team and wants to stay.

a sure thing?  no.  but not much of a stretch either
