It's time again for the CelticsBlog Pick 2 Draft!
The Pick 2 Draft, for those who are unfamiliar, is a fantasy basketball game. There are no winners and losers; it's supposed to be a laid-back and fun exercise.
In the first round of the draft, each GM selects an NBA franchise. You then pick two players from that franchise as "keepers." All subsequent rounds proceed as they would in a normal fantasy draft - in reverse, fixed order of the franchise selections - with each GM selecting one player. Last year, salaries counted and had to be taken into account when drafting. That could be an option again this year, but we'll likely let the people decide that.
Here's a link to last year's draft thread. Take a peek at it if you're still a little fuzzy on the details.

And here's a link to some of the final rosters.

This is just the interest thread. If you want to take part in the game this year, reply saying so. We're likely looking for at a minimum 20 GMs, but could go up to 30 if there's enough interest.
Again, this is a fun, relaxed game, so if you've been looking to get involved in some of the CelticsBlog drafts but have been intimidated, this is a great place to start! Additionally, some GMs in years past have worked together as co-GMs, so that option is available to you as well.

I'm not going to participate, but I will be monitoring the draft closely so I can take comments you guys say about my DKC guys and use them against you. Cheers, and hope this goes awesome!
-
I'm down with the get down
-
I'll play
-
I'm interested
-
I'm going to pass right now. But like IP, I'll lurk, and remember. I'll always remember.
-
I'm interested too.
-
I am what one might describe as interested in participating in such a league.

Would be nice to have some non-DKC GM's in here
-
Would love to but unfortunately work will get in the way during the day for the draft. Lol

You can leave a list for someone and they can make a selection for you.

Would love to join if there's room.

that's definitely a necessity. have been able to work with the mods to pick early or late based on my work schedule as well. hoping that's the case this time around as well

I would join.

I should be able to take lists if nobody else can, and if it means that more people can sign up. We need at least 20 GMs for this to be realistic.
-
Bump.
-
I'll be interested to see if enough interest is garnered to make this feasible.
I'd rather pass myself, but could probably pull it off if it comes down to a numbers game and my playing allowed it to proceed.

Need more GMs! Sign up!

I will help out a bit, and am always around for advice, but I won't be able to participate this year.
If anybody is on the fence, I'll say that this is my favorite of the "drafts", just because it's the most chill. No competition, very little criticism (constructive or otherwise)... just put together a team and talk about it.

It's been a while, but I'm back and I need to redeem picking Mo Williams and ruining my great late round steals.

Nice.

C'mon guys...
-
You guys can always modify the rules, to have GMs pick two teams, and pick one player from each team. Or, pick two players from the two teams. Or however you want to run it.
It's an off year; experiment!
-
Bump; this is a ton of fun. If you're on the fence, sign up. You won't regret it!

It really is.
-
Pretty surprised this hasn't gotten more interest. Spots filled up fast previous years.
-
Bitin' my style with the title. I like it.
-
Cheers Governors!
I'd love to try my hand in one of your drafting competitions if you'll have me. Would be a real treat to be able to run my own basketball club.
-
I'll play if you guys have a commish to run it and need more GMs

unless I win, in that case, it was anything but an 'off' year ;D
-
Due to lack of interest, we're going to push back the draft a week. If enough people haven't signed up by then, we'll modify the rules.
-
I'll join. Are contracts and salaries involved or is it just pick a player?
-

Still up in the air.
We did salaries last year and I personally like the aspect of the numbers game, but it's traditionally done without salaries.
-
If we're hard-pressed for more participants, why don't we stop at 15 GMs and let everyone manage two teams?
-
preferred the no-salary version to simply develop the best team.
Also, if we're going with a 2-team approach, we should probably consider a rule about trading between the teams managed by one person. I could see some lopsided deals happening where 1 of the teams is loaded and the other one is making the current Sixers look like all-stars
-
Definitely no trading between one's two teams.
However, if we can get to 20 teams today, I think that's enough GMs to do one team per GM. We'll give it a little more time.
Also, I'm happy to assume the role of Commissioner, but we'll need at least one more to process any trades that I might make.
-
I'd prefer no or little consideration to salaries.
-
If there's room I'll partake even though it seems DKC heavy already. I'll give it a whirl.
-

Same.
-
I suppose I can join though I'm not sure how much time I will have, but AB has offered to take a list if necessary.
-
AB, I am happy to join as a GM
-
Two more, guys! We'll announce the draft order tomorrow if we have 20 by then.

I made a post over on RealGM's Celtic board.
It's very active and some good people over there.

Bangarang, Peter! We've never tried that one before.

Here's an interesting rule change that I want to hear some feedback on.
If a team does not get selected in the Franchise round, then none of the players on that team are eligible for later rounds. Thoughts?
Looking like we won't do salaries, though.

I think you have to do that otherwise some of the teams might be quite stacked.

If we have 20 GMs. That's 10 teams that won't get picked. Lets say each team has 12 players, that's 120 players that would be ineligible. I don't think I like that idea. I think the players that are on teams that didn't get pick should all be available for the player's draft.

I'm not a huge fan, either, just because it takes a lot of interesting players out of the mix. The better the players available, the more interest there will be in later rounds, etc.
That's just my suggestion, though; you guys are in charge.

If someone can actually do this for me I'm in and put my list together tonight.

At the very least, I'll be able to take lists for select times, and I'm sure others are willing to help out too.

Join everyone!

Still need one more GM

Fine, I'll do it.

Alright, the game is on. I'll allow people to join until midnight tonight, but after that I'm closing the signup and determining the draft order.
This weekend will be a good time to discuss rules and such.

Fine, I'll do it.

Just when I think I'm out, they PULL ME BACK IN!!
...it is a really fun game though. Join up!

I've agreed to be a commish, but I think AB and I would like a 3rd possibly.
Between school and work, there's going to be times I'll have no access to a computer but I'll gladly assist people when I'm on.

I certainly see that, but it does sort of almost weight it better to be one of the last team selections as you will get two #1's and a #2 (I mean after OKC, HOU, and MIA - in no particular order - there aren't any other teams that have two #1 type players unless you also get the #1 from another team).

The one question I have is, how are injured players treated? For example, would I want Rose on my team even though he isn't going to play again this year? Will people still consider him a near MVP player or a guy that isn't even on a roster?

This varies.
I tend to think (significantly) injured players should be looked at as such.
A healthy Rose is likely a top-10 pick, but right now it's tough to argue that he can lead your team.

agreed. all players should be available, including injured. if someone doesn't take Chicago but someone wants to take Rose to build a team for the future, let them.

He doesn't play this year but is a great asset for the future.
