Game Notes

The Celtics visit the last place Bucks for their 4th and final meeting this season.  Two of the Bucks' 9 wins came at the expense of the Celtics.  The Celtics won their last meeting in Boston.

The Celtics are 7-10 on the road and 4-6 in their last 10 games while the Bucks are 5-19 at home and 2-8 in their last 10.  The Celtics are coming off a loss to the Mavs, after winning their previous 3 games.  The Bucks have lost their last 2 games.

The Celtics are playing on the second night of a back to back set and had to travel after last night's game so are at a disadvantage against the Bucks who were off on Sunday and are playing at home.

The Celtics are expected to be without Rajon Rondo who still has not played in back to back games since returning from the knee injury.  The Bucks have 4 players who are listed as questionable, one that is probable and two that are out.

The Celtics have moved to the 5th worst in the East and 7th worst in the league. The Bucks have the worst record in the league, but have already beaten the Celtics twice and so the Celtics can't take them for granted in spite of the fact that the Bucks may only have 8 or 9 healthy players for this game.

Key Matchups
(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/jared_sullinger.png)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/zaza_pachulia.png)
Jared Sullinger vs Zaza Pachulia
In the first meeting between these two teams, Pachulia notched his first 20 point game since 2007. He also had a couple of very obvious flops, one of which got him a warning.  He is averaging 7.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/phil_pressey.png)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/brandon_knight.png)
Phil Pressey vs Brandon Knight
With Rondo having the night off, the job of guarding Knight goes to Phil Pressey.  Knight is averaging 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game.  Knight has a height advantage over Pressey and if Knight has a big start, we may see more of Bayless at the point.

Keys to the Game

Run and Move the Ball - The Celtics play so well when they run and keep up a fast pace throughout the game. When they slow it down, they get into trouble. The also have to move the ball and find the open man. When they start over dribbling and try to do too much individually, they struggle.

Take Care of the Ball
-  The Celtics at times get careless with the ball and turnovers can bury them. The Celtics have to take care of the ball and not give the Bucks easy points off turnovers.

Rebound - Rebounding is mostly effort and desire and the Celtics need to have both and they need to crash the boards as a team. They play best when the guards, along with the front line, go after every rebound.

Attack the Paint - At times the Celtics love the jumper and 3 point shots a bit too much. When they fall,  it's great. But, when they don't fall, like they didn't against the Mavs,  it can get ugly. When they aren't falling, they need to get into the paint and drive to the hoop.

Be Aggressive - The Celtics were too passive at times against the Mavs.  They need to be aggressive on defense, in going after loose balls and rebounds, and in driving to the hoop.  They have to be the team that plays harder and wants the win more.

X-Factors
Who's Playing and Back to Back
The Celtics will be probably be missing Rondo, but the Bucks may be missing as many as 7 of their players.  Even with the Bucks short handed, the Celtics are going to have a tough time since they had to travel and are playing back to back.

This hapless Bucks team, for some reason, seems to match up well with the Celtics.  On top of that, Rondo won't be playing.

Should be an interesting tank battle.

C's just don't match up well with the Bucks for some reason. They've beaten the C's 2-1 so far.

Henson is also just the complete antithesis of all of our frontcourt players.  He presents some difficult matchup issues particularly for Sullinger, Bass, and KO.

But look at who he is doing this against. My God, this team is worse than some of the summer league teams. I have nothing against the guy, but almost all of his good games have come against craptastic teams. The kid has skills, but when it comes to competing against quality NBA players, he has shown little so far. He needs time, but he will settle in to an 8th man or so roll in the NBA.

Sullinger and Olynyk are a truly horrid defensive pairing.

yeah. Truly horrid performance by the duo tonight.

You cannot be serious. My mother could play great defense against the bucks and she is 5 feet tall and 81 years old. Get real.

They are both young. They played well vs Henson, Zaza

anyone else miss Rondo/AB tonight? bcuz i don't

great defense tonight

Right. This team is so much better without Rondo. How did they beat the 9-win Bucks? Amazing victory.

Haven't we lost twice to them already?? But we won tonight

It's still an accomplishment to beat a team that you haven't all year long. Or it was all Jhogs fault.

You pick

Yes. Huge win tonight. The Bucks really are an intimidating squad. So glad we kept them out of double digits for wins. By the way, Rondo didn't play in the two losses either.

That fierce front court of Zaza and Henson that has led the Bucks to 9 wins this year.

Sullinger is the first guy I'd trade at this point, since other teams may be coaxed to give up value for him. Sadly, no-one will give you anything for Olynyk.

Olynyk with three great plays in a row!

olly in playing with more confidence as the season goes on. he is a pretty good offensive player and showed some moves tonight.

A healthy Rondo and the Olynyk of two years from now on last year's Celtics as the third big behind Garnett and Bass and we might have had another title.

Okay.......

I laughed at that as well

Future Olynyk would be a massive upgrade over Collins and Wilcox.

I would fully believe that your mother can do that. And yet, Olynyk and Sullinger couldn't. Make of this what you will.

Surely Ainge can get more for Green than just a salary dump and a midround draft pick. There are a lot off dumb GMs out there.

If there are people hating on Kelly after this game, they really just don't have any interest in being won over by him.  What more do you really expect?  He wasn't drafted to be Ben Wallace.

Personally, I liked what I saw from him in the fourth quarter.  Hopefully he can carry that confidence over into future games.  He does seem to play better when he's on the floor with Pressey.  Hopefully he can develop some chemistry with Rondo.

I'll take "making a couple of spirits runs in February and March but falling short and drafting in the top 10" for $2,000, Alex.

Kelly played 21 minutes and had 14/11/3 but he doesn't get much love from anyone. Yes, it's against MIL but get real, it's not like some of the nice games by others has been against premium talent. Kelly played nice tonight, he deserves some props.

The player people love and bash Kelly over had 4pts and 4rbs in 26 minutes (no assists).

He really didn't do much of note.  He almost had a nice chasedown block on Jeff Green, but he committed a foul, which I think Green was expecting him to do anyway.

To me he looked like a kid with a nice frame and some good potential.  But he needs to add a bunch of weight and polish his skills considerably.
